I had actually never been to a Wingstop before, not even in the US, so I don't know how the Mexican version compares. Maybe the Mexico version of Buffalo Wild Wings boasts bigger restaurants and more of a sports bar atmosphere, but Wingstop does exactly what it promises, a quick stop to satisfy that wing craving. This second location of Wingstop in Querétaro is inside the new shopping center in Ave. Candiles near Prol. Constituyentes. The place is clean, at least it is in the early evening, and the ambience tranquil. A good stop for wings in the area.

There are some places that captivate you, and you find yourself WILLING them to succeed--this is…read moreone of them. I'm going to say it was our favorite place to eat in San Miguel. Staffed by three buddies who have all worked in high end restaurants (here in San Miguel as well as the US and Europe), this tiny establishment doesn't even have a sign outside (just take down the address and you'll see a sign that says "Hotel" by the door. Enter and ascend a flight of stairs and it'll be on your right. The meal begins with chips and a warm black bean dip (made with exotic ingredients they'd needed to pick up the previous day in something that sounded like a drug deal!). Next order the mushroom soup--a highlight of our 7 day trip to San Miguel. We also shared an order of guacamole (excellent as you'd expect, with thick chunky chips), and an order of Requeson (never heard of that, but turned out to be a cheese log with spicy/tangy flavor, served with hot corn tortillas). For mains, we had the torts de lingua (delicious if you're not weirded out by beef tongue), duck floutas, and the pork dish (Costilla en Abodo Oaxaqueno), which had excellent flavor but was a battle (large bone in the middle so difficult to eat). They've only been open for a few months and they have a few kinks to work out--the menu is not organized in a logical way (green salad and mushroom soup appear at the end rather than first). Meals did not all arrive together, but to be fair we were a large party (8), and ordered multiple items per person. They also need to update their Google entry, which failed to note that they're closed on Tuesdays. And as noted before, having a sign would be helpful. Remember to BYOB because they don't serve alcohol, but in the end that's yet another thing that makes this place an incredible bargain! We managed to eat VERY well for less than $16 per person. Just wish we'd discovered it sooner because we would've returned if we had time. Maybe for breakfast, which I hear is also fantastic.

Colorful, fresh, and appealing, the Enchiladas Verdes ($140MX) was outstanding. My "wrong order" was so because I failed to understand that it was a dish to be shared. Though it contained what looked to be a full avocado, there was no way I could make sense of turning that, carmelized onion, and an entire wheel of cheese into a sensible meal. Dining at Raices is a fully outdoor, casual experience and street vendors pop into the space hawking their wares. It's very casual, inexpensive, and attracts the local ex-pats, but those artful plates are a give-away that there's more going on here than one would assume if given only a cursory glance.

We knew about this taco cart from PBS celebrity chef Pati Jinich as part of her travels to SMA. One of three stellar spots she recommended, the other two were Los Milagros (review: https://yelp.to/Akl564fa67) and San Agustin Chocolates y Churros (review: https://yelp.to/odzpLVN7Fg). It was about 9PM when we arrived, a good thing since they don't start firing up the grill until 7PM every evening. The seats were already filled, and there was a distinct vibe that this was a hangout for devoted regulars. We weren't aware that the full name of the business is Andy's Pastor Taco Cart even though Pati even talked about the pastor in the video clip. In fact, the prominent vertical spit was made of their specialty pastor made of thinly sliced pork shoulder. The differentiator is that it's marinated in a mixture of dried chiles (ancho, guajillo, chipotle), achiote paste, citrus juices (lime and pineapple), vinegar, and pronounced spices like cumin and oregano. Alas, we instead for a couple of the MX$35 Carne Asada Tacos (Photo 8). No question they were quite tasty but probably no better than any other popular taqueria in town. We'll just have to come back to San Miguel de Allende and do right by Andy. Sorry Pati. Came here when they just opened at around 7:20pm and was able to get some delicious tacos with no line which was great! - Bistek Taco - I really appreciate that the meats were bursting with flavor and that the beef was quite tender. The meat was so well marinated and went very well with the tortilla and onions. - Campechanos Taco - I was not as big of a fan of this one as the meat had a reddish look to them and a spice that I was not very familiar with.
