This place can be really busy. It depends on the time of day of course so you can expect when it's dinner time on say a Friday? Ya, the drive through can be as busy as Biscayne. We pulled in from 16th avenue having to wait for all the cars exiting as well as the drive through line to break a bit so we could get through to the parking lot. I ended up ordering a whole chicken (11 dollars), 2 orders of half racks of ribs (5.50 x 2), 2 orders of large rice and beans and a large order of plantains for take out. The whole chicken is a whole chicken, quartered into dark and white meat quarters. The extra orders of ribs were both side ribs which are fattier than back ribs but were a decent size. One of the 1/2 racks was the soft floating bone half and the other half was the boned half of the ribs. The chicken, ribs and all the sides are as I remember. It's not the best food but it's decent for the money. Let me start my review by saying this is the best meal I've had on my trip in Miami so far! I've spent all week blowing money on expensive restaurants with small portions and bland tasting food so I needed something better and I found Pollo Tropical! It was walking distance from Bayside Marketplace and I've heard such good things about it. This place is like an authentic Mexican chipotle. I was blown away by the 5.69 bowl and drink combo and all the ingredients looked so fresh! I had a avocado club tropichop and it was honestly the best meal I've had in Miami so far. I can never have chipotle again because of how great this place is. 5 stars for service, quality, cleanliness and overall amazing experience of food for such a reasonable price. I asked if they could press my chicken wrap because it was sloppy and not made right before and it was a huge commotion when I got to the window. I regularly come to this pollo tropical for the past few months and never had any issues with the food or the service. However, This morning my card was attempted to be charge $7758.77 at a Best Buy and the reason I give negative review here is because the card was new and I only got to use it this pollo tropical for the first time and it was very suspicious that the two employees at the drive through took my card for long where I couldn't even see what was happening and I ask where is my card and one of them reply the chicken is coming like bro I asked for my card not the chicken he seems to be in a rush calling the other employee and finally gave me the card back with the order. I work in tech and finance so my cards are protected from any fraud attacks. Who doesn't love arroz con frijoles and pollo (if you don't, what are you doing in Miami?). So I was raised by a Cuban man and now I am married to a Cuban man with a Cuban mom who lives with us. I haven't had to stop at pollo in forever, because I have my own chef at home to make me Cuban food. But before, pollo was my spot to satisfy that craving, quickly. The chicken at this place is always perfectly cooked! The rice and beans are awesome too! Always taste the same, where you go. In reference to the speed of service, well it sucks, but I don't mind it. I use the drive thru because it does seem faster then going inside. This is a somewhat convenient location if you're in the area of North Miami, but it gets quite busy. They have an outdoor seating area, unlike some other Pollo Tropical locations, so if the weather is nice, you may opt to sit out here. I found it somewhat odd that one of the registers was out of cash so the cashier could only take orders for people paying by credit card. Otherwise, you had to wait for the cashier at the other register to take your order and ring you up. You'd think all fast food restaurants would have enough cash to deal with demand, and I can only guess that this may be why the line was so backed up. The cashier was friendly and attentive though, for what it's worth. As I was placing my order, I heard an employee yelling at a co-worker to "move it" and "let's go, let's GO". Now I don't know if this was meant in a joking fashion, but I thought it was extremely unprofessional and demeaning. Even when I was sitting at my table eating my meal, I could hear the yelling. Other customers lifted their head from their meal and tried to see who was responsible for the barking of orders. Overall chicken was moist and flavorful, there were several sauces you could choose from to add onto it. My favorite was the mustard curry. We also tried the yucca for first time and liked it. This place is not at all impressive. I went in there for the first time last night. I stood in line for about 10 mins(I was the only person in line). There were two employees at the counter having a conversation. Then one of them used her card to pay for something. She then left. I waited another 5 mins before the other employee asked me what I wanted. I am pretty sure she was new since she had no idea what was on the menu. However, she never said hello, never smiled, and not once did she act like she actually wanted to be there. After ordering I waited for my food. Great tasting food for a great price, definitely a great for when you are hungry and dont want to go to a sit-down restaurant. For a fast-food place, this is 5 stars, overall its probably 4.5. This location seemed frequented by several of the locals, and the food tasted pretty on par to dishes we've had when visiting the caribbean. The food came out pretty fast, and it was actually pretty clean to dine inside. It was actually good that we dined inside (rather than drive-thru) since we had more time to look over the options and could stock up on the interesting sauce choices. The chicken was flavorful and a sizeable portion, but I thought the shredded pork portion was smaller, and needed more flavor (the guava bbq was a nice addition). I go to other locations and the food is good, like the one on 27 avenue and US1. The new location they opened on Biscayne south of 79 St. is okay but why drive-thru could use improvement. This place is okay: they serve mediocre (albeit somewhat healthy) food at decent prices (though prices have gone up). The service isn't that great, but it's a fast food chain after all. As others have said, this place can get very busy. Word of advice, go inside and place your order: it's faster than the drive thru and since Pollo Tropical has a great variety of sauces, go into the restaurant to get as any sauces as you want (it's self service for the sauces), because they'll give you one or two sauces at max if you go through the drive thru, or they'll just forget and you'll get none (they have, currently, the rum pineapple sauce, guava bbq, cilantro garlic, hot sauce, normal bbq, salsa, chopped onions, and ketchup). I almost always buy the whole family chicken with the rice and beans with a side of plantains. The chicken they serve has gotten smaller in size, and sometimes, will be extremely dry or burnt, but they usually do a decent job. I'm in love with their black beans, rice, and plantains, so I would recommend that. The meal has gotten expensive: it's almost $15 for a whole chicken and 2 sides, but it is a healthy alternative to KFC or even rotisserie chicken. Me and my mom came to eat here today. We were not very pleased with the service. The only one I can speak good about was one called Louis that was very attentive and helpful. The cashier too but a few of the cooks and servers were all over the place. My mom got a clásico sandwich and they forgot her fries so she requested a simple request of fries to add to her sandwich and they threw away her sandwich without her consent to start another one. That wasn't necessary. People are starving out here to throw food away like that. So in came the second sandwich and it was horribly undercooked. To add to that she had to wait a long time. I have had pollo tropical before with no issues, but 2 days ago I ordered the half chicken, rice and beans and woke up at 3 am with food poisoning. I looked at the chicken bones and realized it wasn't cooked all the way through. I've never experienced food poisoning before but I can tell you the last 2 days were among the most miserable I've ever experienced. I don't wanna write off the entire company for one persons mistake because it is good food for a fair price but there's no excuse for what happened to me. There should be some better regulation to ensure that this never occurs again. I was very sick and now 3 days later just beginning to feel more normal.
