I would like to add that it took a year for this review to get looked at. I did go back eventually and the storefront isn't too much better. The parking lot is still in the same condition, the dumpsters leak fluids into the drive through lane and parking area, and they still run out of sauces frequently from what I hear. Last time I went back, they didn't have salsa, and only two cilantro mayo for an order of three meals. Thankfully, they did get the order right and didn't charge me incorrectly. I don't normally review chain restaurants but this was a bad meal. Preforming my weekend tasks I needed to eat and recently heard Pollo Tropical sold Covina (fish), so I stopped in for a bite. I ordered the Covina Platter with Cesar Salad and Corn with Avocado Slices. I received my order and sat for as Rakim said "plate of fish which is my favorite dish". But a good piece of Covina is still a wish, because this was Horrible! The fish was bland and looked nothing like the pictures in the restaurant. Instead of slices of avocado, I got a chunk of something that tasted as if it was grown in an empty bathtub in an abandoned lot. It was bad! Tough and not exactly flavorless but the flavor that was there, is nothing you would want on your tongue. The corn was equally bland as the fish. The Cesar Salad was the best part of the meal. The young lady who took my order was very courteous. I did say I wanted to dine in. But everything was thrown in to go containers and to go bags. The one star is for the young lady taking my order and the Cesar Salad. I altered between this location and the one by I-95 but as soon as I discovered the magic of curbside pickup, I found this location to be most reliable. First of all, round of applause for the solid hookup the kids meal offers. It's the perfect portion! My second favorite is the chicken caesar wrap combo. No other wrap satisfies me the way this one does. The next item I flock towards is the mojo pork tropichop with white rice. I order it before I head out and arrive just in time for the pickup time. #WinningAtLife I love the strawberry lemonade as a refreshment choice even if there's a surcharge for it. My favorite side item is either the fried yucca with the cilantro garlic sauce or the balsamic tomatoes in their full zesty nature. But HOLY SHIT, the service was terrible. We ordered around 7:30, pickup time was 7:43. We showed up a bit early and there was one party in line. We stood at the counter waiting for someone to acknowledge us; this took about 5 minutes. The manager finally came up to the register, asked us who the order was for, I answered, and she just walked off into another room without saying anything to us. We figured out that they hadn't even started on our order. 3 more customers came in during this time and had a similar experience trying to get the attention of the staff. There were about 5 workers there, no drive thru customers, and the food was clearly ready to be served. One was on her phone showing a meme to her coworker for about 5 minutes, the others (including the manager) were moving at the speed of molasses. They even blinked slowly, as if *SOMETHING* was hindering their normal brain functions. The other 4 customers and I had enough time to start complaining about the service to each other while we were all standing in front of the counter and I'm sure the employees heard us. One of us even pointed at her order that was ready to go in the bag and it took them 3 minutes to give it to her. When we finally got our order, I felt the need to check the bag to see if everything was there. Thankfully, it was. We tried to leave the way we came in and they had locked the door, so we had to use another exit. As we were leaving, the manager gave me a look with dead eyes as if she was annoyed for having served us. We got our food at around 8:05. I really used to love pollo .... I used to love it with all my heart. Now, it's a disappointment every time. Wanted to try the new avocado tropichop and it was not only misleading but had absolutely no flavor. The rice was hard, the chicken was dry - I think that's avocado on there? How upsetting. This place can be really busy. It depends on the time of day of course so you can expect when it's dinner time on say a Friday? Ya, the drive through can be as busy as Biscayne. We pulled in from 16th avenue having to wait for all the cars exiting as well as the drive through line to break a bit so we could get through to the parking lot. I ended up ordering a whole chicken (11 dollars), 2 orders of half racks of ribs (5.50 x 2), 2 orders of large rice and beans and a large order of plantains for take out. The whole chicken is a whole chicken, quartered into dark and white meat quarters. The extra orders of ribs were both side ribs which are fattier than back ribs but were a decent size. One of the 1/2 racks was the soft floating bone half and the other half was the boned half of the ribs. The chicken, ribs and all the sides are as I remember. It's not the best food but it's decent for the money. There's a condiment bar that has a variety of sauces and other sides that you can help yourself to as well as pack up and cover to take out with you as well. read more
