Beginning in 1910, Hershey began to give tours of its chocolate factory to the public. Visitors walked through real production areas to see processes like bar molding, wrapping, and the depositing of Hershey Kiss chocolates. By the early 1970s, the public tours had become too crowded for the active manufacturing plant. Located next to Hersheypark, Hershey opened Chocolate World as an alternate visitor center for the public to learn about the manufacturing process as well as purchase chocolate products in the large retail shop. My family and I recently visited Hershey while we were visiting our cousins in Pennsylvania. My wife and I had both separately visited Hershey when we were children, but this was the first visit for our own children. After taking a tour around town with Hershey Trolley Works, we headed inside Chocolate World. We went straight for the Hershey Chocolate Tour, where the line moved very quickly. It's not a real tour of the Hershey Factory, but rather a simulated one that is family-friendly. Similar to an attraction at Disney World, visitors sit in omnimover-style cars that move continuously along a track through the simulated factory journey. Our sons loved seeing the anthropomorphic chocolate characters who teach visitors about the chocolate-making process. Afterwards, we headed to the retail shop area to grab some delicious chocolate treats to take with us on the road. And don't worry... there were plenty of free samples too! I came in today and was greeted by a gentleman handing out 70% off coupons, which was great. After receiving the coupon I ventured around the store a little bit. I looked at some bags, wallets and jackets. While the variety is not as great as a regular Coach store it was superb for an outlet. While there were no sales advisors here, the staff was very helpful and helped me look around. I ended up getting a nice purse for a good friend of mine back home. Altogether, this is a very nice Coach Outlet store located at the Tanger Outlets!

Being from Central PA, my husband and I grew up on bologna sandwiches. When we learned we are just a 30 min drive from the outlet, we jumped in the car and drove right there! It's easy to miss as the storefront blends in with the neighbor hood. Just look for that familiar Seltzer's face logo and you'll find it! There was a fundraiser going on with a local radio station and grilled bologna sandwiches for sale outside. We enjoyed a sandwich then went in to an old timey style mom and pop shop full of t-shirt and other apparel, cups, souvenirs, and every style of bologna you could imagine for sale. They've expanded their flavors to 5 now, not just original and sweet. There's Chipotle, Double Sweet smoked, and a honey smoked flavor with free samples to try! They offer bologna bites, unique bologna jerky, bulk items and discounted misshaped slices. One of my favorites is the Dutch grillers, thick cut slices perfect for grilling and their "smoked coffee" has such a unique smoky taste I love. (No it doesn't taste like bologna but has a nice smoky aroma) They also partner and stock products from local small business which I appreciate. Every time you go in you find something new! There's also a mini museum of how they got started, their impact on PA government and history. A copy of their episode of dirty jobs plays in the background and gives a look into how the sausage is made so to speak. Overall a great place to stop if you're in the Hershey/Lebanon area, want to sample some local culture and cuisine and learn about the central PA area.
