We were camping and needed a replacement tire for our travel trailer. We worked with John who was able to find our exact tire and had it within 24 hrs. We took our damaged tire to the shop and they were able to fit us in immediately. Mounted and balanced within 15 minutes. I had called and set up an appointment for a tire rotation and oil change on my 2500 heavy duty truck and told them over the phone that my truck takes special oil and i have had problems in the past at different shops with the shops not having my oil in stock. the next day when I dropped my truck off for the 2pm appointment I had stated that I need to pick my truck up by 3:15 max to pick my kids up from school on time, well I was again told that it would be done within the hour, however when I tried picking it up shortly after 3pm I was told it was not ready yet as they didn't have my right oil on hand and had to wait 45min for a delivery place to bring them the right oil, the man at the counter got snotty and told me that next time I should leave more time in my schedule for it and there is nothing they can do as it was the delivery place that took the extra time, yet it was really pomp's problem as they should have had the right oil on hand the day before. Unfortunately I might not be coming back as this is the second major problem I've had with them. The first problem happened last fall when I bought 4 new tires for my truck and made it clear that I want to keep my old tires for summer tires, but they damaged them too much taking them off (it looks like they used a unpaded prybar or something) that cut into the sidewalls of my old tires damaging them too much to use again and then denied to me that they did it, they tried saying that I musta hit something on the road with them. I'm vary disappointed in this as my old tires were still like new, I was only wanting the new ones I got for more winter traction as it's a plow truck. I truly believe pomp's owes me a new set of summer tires for my truck. read more

Won't be going back. Had an issue, wrote a letter addresses to the manager Kurt, he never responded - INSTEAD received a voicemail from the person I had to issue with. I'm glad there are more options in Marquette for tires. After spending $1900 in 2 months with Pomps, I expected better service. read more

As other viewers have noted, these guys are really outstanding. We were passing through Marquette on vacation when I noticed a gash in my Michelin Defender's tire wall. Went to Pomp's where manager John immediately inspected it, though they were swamped with customers. He said we could not safely go on with that tire. His records said they had two of them, but after 20 minutes of looking, he could not find them. He directed me to Walmart who had none. So I returned and John and another staffer started looking again, all through the shop, though, again, they were very busy. After another 20 minutes, they found the tires (not commonly stocked, by the way). They fitted me in the next day and after 30 minutes we were on our way with a new tire. I met maybe four or five of the employees while I was there and they were not only friendly both with each other and every customer, but very professional and, perhaps most impressive, seemed to be genuinely happy to be working there. How often can you say that about a car repair shop? On the other hand, we stopped off at Pomp's in Iron Mountain later that day to have the lug nuts readjusted. The two guys in the office ignored me as did the girl at the desk, who spent 5 minutes on the phone discussing her problems getting through life. To be fair, once she got around to me she was very nice and helpful. Point: it's not Pomp's that is so great, its the Good Guys in Marquette. How I wish we had them in my hometown. read more

After reading a couple of these reviews, I'm glad they take care of folks passing through town. I believe that is important. I, a local, unfortunately had a very poor experience with purchasing new tires one week ago. I made an appointment eight days earlier, specified the exact tires, dropped my truck off at 7:30 in the morning and was told that it would be done by 5:30 PM. I showed up and they simply told me they ran out of tires. No call. No substitution offered. I work about 50 miles away from Marquette and took the day off of work. Perhaps I will use them in some other town at one of their other locations if I ever have problems, but not here... read more

I have been using Pomps in Marquette for over 20 years. I check prices locally for everything auto, whether it be for new tires or for service, but always end up back at their shop. Questions are thoroughly answered, courtesy is never a problem and the timeliness of the work is as they stated it would be. My last encounter in the spring of 2016 was one of the best. I needed a new set of Goodyears and the 10 year old rims had to be refurbished. They assisted me in working with a powder coating service for the rims that was located about 50 miles away by removing the rims and putting my vehicle on blocks until I could retrieve the rims a week later. This was during an unusually busy time for the business at the end of May. One thing that stood out is that I thought I would have to give up my OEM sensors for air pressure that had to come off of the rims. Instead the technician worked to clean and restore them to the wheels. So, since I did not have the $260 for new sensors, I did not have to live with an eternal dashboard light (reading no pressure because nothing would have been connected). Another good experience for auto work at Pomps instead of being another one of the general public who feels that there was a ripoff. We were on vacation from the Detroit area, Wednesday night at 11:30 we picked up an "s" hook in our tire. We called our roadside assistance and they were sending a tow truck to bring us to Pomps. We were able to plug our tire and put air in it, so we called the towing service and let them know we were on our way. Thursday morning we stopped in at Pomps and spoke to a guy at the front counter, they had 3 cars in their 3 bays. We told them we were in the area on vacation until Sunday and what had happened. Once we mentioned we had the Kia tire protection plan he told us they were super busy and would need the car for the week. Being on vacation we didn't want to surrender our car for the entire trip, so they put more air in the tire and we left. We passed by the shop many times and at various times of the day (not intentionally just where plans took us from the hotel to Munising and back and other locations around the area) but as we passed they had one car in the bay, or none at all and hardly any cars in the lot. They weren't rude or anything, just didn't want to do the job. Luckily the plug we put in held and we were able to enjoy our trip and make it back home. read more
