I called around and luckily one of the plastic recycling centers told me about them. I called in advance to check if they'd take the steel bars I had and a real person answered the phone on first ring!! That is a rarity in today's world. She was very helpful and answered all my questions. The next day I came - took me some time to get here but once I got here they gave me clear instructions on what to do. They weighed my car before and after I unloaded the metals; their system used the difference to calculate the money they would pay and gave me a ticket to go get the money from the cashier. I was super impressed by their streamlined process! Inside the dump yard everyone was helpful and assisted me. The entire thing took only a few minutes. But here's the REAL lesson I learned at this place : modern humans (we, that is) create so much trash - mounts of paper boxes, piles of metals, mountains of used auto parts... it was shockingly eye opening to see how much they had collected!!! After seeing this place, there's no excuse that we must reduce, reuse, and recycle !!!

I've tried a few places now and I think I finally found my recycling spot in Dajes Recycling…read moreCenter. The staff here is fast, efficient and kind! I've been trying to be better and recycle everything, treating this Earth well. Once a month, I like bringing my plastics and getting a little cash money for them. I usually fill a big black bag and it's around $15. On this last trip at Dejas, they could tell it was my friend and I's first time at the location and helped us a bit with our sorting. They were patient and helpful! Plus when our total was $18 and some change they just gave us a $20 as a first time customer bonus! So unnecessary but kind! We parked along the street as we knew it would be a quick trip in & out. It's located in a clear spot though and identified more clearly than similar places. We'll definitely be doing out recycling here from now on! It's way cleaner than other spots and such a better experience overall.

However, the 2 reviews were glowing and I decided to give it a shot even though this place is a little far from my house. The place was easy to access and the young man (the owner, I believe) was exceptionally helpful. The place was clean and I believe I received more than a fair amount for the cans/plastics. My friend and I got about half of what we usually do at another center. It's also a bit more dirty than my usual spot which my friend didn't love. But~ it's a recycling center...these places are innately grimey lol. However, it's hard to find reliably open and convenient recycling centers in DTLA and this seems to be one. Another big plus, they have a few parking spots. It does seem to get busy at peak times though. My friend and I went during a weekday lunch hour and it was packkeeeed! We had to spend the whole hour there because the line was so long. So try to avoid lunch hour if you can to save yourself the headache.
