On two visits to this nursery, staff members have been willing to dig plants out of the ground and either sell or give them to me. After spending thousands of dollars purchasing trees from Jake's Pondside Nursery and having them planted through their service, I am extremely disappointed with the lack of follow-through and customer care. The trees came with a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, two of them died within that warranty period in 2025. I contacted the nursery numerous times and spoke with Heather, who manages the business. I was repeatedly assured that the issue would be addressed and taken care of, but no resolution was ever provided. After following up again in 2026, I was surprised to be told that the trees had supposedly been planted by "someone else," despite my understanding that the purchase and planting had been arranged through Jake's Pondside Nursery. I gave the business many opportunities to honor their warranty and resolve the situation, but after repeated calls and promises, nothing was done. Based on my experience, I found their service disappointing, their prices high, and their customer support after the sale unacceptable. I went there to get two small trees for my front patio entrance. When I spoke with the staff person, I was very clear that the trees would be planted in a 12 inch ceramic pot, fully facing West being hit directly by the sun most of the day with no shade. The trees died after two weeks, they completely burnt while I followed all the instructions I was given. I called them to let them know and see what we could do about it. While the first person I spoke to was very nice, the manager Heather was not helpful at all, she did not even asked me about the type of tree, what I did to maintain. She just said there is nothing they can do. While I understand their policy, I found her rude and not understanding at all. I was not angry, not accusatory, not even asking for a refund. I won't go back and do not advise anyone to buy anything from them given their lack of good customer service and professionalism. I lost $300. read more

We are lucky to have found Pondside and Jake Watts. We engaged Pondside (in 2021/2022) to build our gunite pool, which was 'delivered' on time and looks incredible. Over the course of this project (and through 2023) we also tasked Pondside to advise and follow through on design, landscaping, and hardscaping (large deck, bluestone terrace, plantings, fencing, etc) our property, which the Pondside team completed without unnecessary follow up and seamlessly worked with our building contractors. The service at pond side is a huge miss...and after my last visit, I am done. I love seeing it on my drive by, and frankly that is enough. I bought a plant and a pot for a housewarming, asked for it to be potted. "we do not offer that here, we specialize landscaping." I look around, I am checking out and one woman is shopping, and there are three people working that I see. I ask to clarify, "this is a nursery, you don't pot plants that are purchased with a pot?" I hired Pondside Nursery owner, Jake, for a landscape consult for $250 in early April. I was told he'd put some design ideas together and get back to me. That never happened. I did get a few emails from his assistant telling me they were backed up, but that they would get to me. At one point I visited the nursery in person to try to move things along, and spent $350 on plants for outdoor pots. Jake was there, and we spoke and he reassured me, saying that Spring was just getting started, so not to worry. The last email I received assured me they would eventually get to me in July. I waited patiently. The last straw was when I began to email and call repeatedly in mid-July to agitate for them to follow through before it was too late to plant this year. The result: no response to ANY of my communication attempts. That is inexcusable. read more

Unfortunately my experience with Jake was not as positive as you would expect given other reviews and the quality of his work pictured on the website. In the current environment work is plentiful but this establishment is not respectful of people's time or money. Jake came out for a design visit for $99 dollars where he was helpful in laying out how he would approach our garden project. This did not last the full hour as promised but plans and a quote were expected to follow. After chasing the Pondside team, I was provided a quote and no drawings. Drawing eventually followed but the quote included lumber which was more than 2x the price of a local lumber yard. Understanding there was additional mark-up I just asked for some clarification given prices for the materials elsewhere. At this point Jake and team became very difficult to reach. After two weeks where I finally said the lack of responsiveness or comment on the lumber price was concerning, Jake came back and said the $99 dollars was his opportunity to interview the client as much as the client interview the contractor and he would not be willing to do the job. I never said I wouldn't move forward at the quoted price and in fact was asking when they could fit me into their calendar to go ahead with the project while we worked on details. Jake 's lack of respect for my time has delayed this project now to next year. He also refused to return the $99 dollars when requested which would have been appropriate given his denial of the project. I am sure Jake has lots of clients who don't care about money (he in fact mentioned this during his visit) but asking one question about the quote does not warrant his unprofessional behavior. There are limited individuals to work with for your landscape projects but I would suggest avoiding Jake and Pondside nursery. I am sure they will come back with some negative response to save face in this situation but I have been completely transparent about what occurred. read more

HEADS UP TO ANYONE BUYING PLANTS THIS SPRING/SUMMER... I strongly recommend that you AVOID PONDSIDE NURSERY if at all possible. I won't bore you with too many details and this is the first complaint I have ever posted on the internet, but suffice it to say that Jake, their landscaping "specialist" is a waste of time and money. For a $250 hour long consultation with Jake I got a flippant attitude and a scribbled plant list texted to me which I tried to decipher for a few weeks after no reply to a polite request to please simply send me a typed version. I'm new to gardening and I couldn't figure out more than half the plants he wrote down... Today, I finally drove to Pondside in person to, again, politely request a typed list after which an employee named Michelle sarcastically said she was "so sorry I was so heartbroken over the inconvenience". I clarified to Michelle that "heartbroken" was most definitely not what I was, I just don't tolerate bullshit and I don't like to waste my time and money. PS... We stopped by this nursery when we were in the area. This place is big & the selection is pretty good. When we were there, there wasn't that many choices of veggies & fruits, maybe because it's not in season for it but there was a lot of flowers & other plants to choose from. The price is great! We found a great flower there for less than $10! If you live nearby or happen to be in the area, we would definitely recommend stopping by. read more

These guys require a $100 fee for a site visit to do landscaping. When he came he gave no advice and just offered to provide a quote. When I chased him later he said he couldn't take on my jobs and the fee was non-refundable. I later heard the owner didn't even landscape their property- they hired someone else so don't assume they can do much of anything. read more

We initially hired Pondside to do a master plan for our small village property, with the intention of implementing their design in stages. Once we started working with Pondside it became clear that this was going to be a much larger project because we immediately trusted Jake Watts and the Pondside team to turn our sad front and back yards into a beautiful, super functional outdoor oasis. Their work included: hardscaping, landscaping, fencing, a new stone walkway, new patio, trellis, and currently the addition of a gunite pool-- a complicated undertaking that is nearly done and that Pondside has so far executed exceptionally. We will continue to turn to Pondside for any of future landscaping projects as well as recommend them highly. read more

Pondside Nursery has a problem with integrety. I understand COVID has impacted many aspects of doing business, however, it should not allow for broken contracts or aggrements. I bought a new house and wanted help with landscaping. I was offered a visit by one of their professionals to come and make plans with the cost (over $100) to be credited to the project cost. Long story short... we called for a start date and was told because of COVID, they could not come out to do the work. I was willing to plant myself, but they were not willing to credit any part of my fee toward purchases nor would they keep it on file for future use. They basically said they could not afford to honor the aggrement. My design professional was Tyler. Tyler was amazing, and I would recommend him very highly. He really delivered with drawn plans as well as a lot of helpful information. Staff and management at Pondside is another story. I would not recommend anyone not willing to honor aggrements. read more

Overwatered, under ordered, some thing has changed. And the people working there are not as friendly as they once were.That's not to say it can't change back, and we hope it does read more

Unless you would like to be mansplained to, I would suggest going elsewhere. It seems as though they have no interest in understanding you if you are a woman. Perhaps if I had a man at home, they would have been more helpful and forthcoming with wanting to landscape my property: instead, I found them to be unhelpful and absolutely rude. I've been living in the area for three years now, and I've had my share of highs and lows with contractors as we've renovated our home/barn/pool house. I don't usually go out of my way to review a business, but given the amount of extra work these guys helped us with - and the valuable advice I got in other areas of my property that they weren't compensated for, I truly can't recommend Pondside enough. Before using them, I had seen Jake's landscaping work around the area - so I already had a sense of quality going in - but I got so much more than I paid for and I'm very very grateful to the staff, and the network of local artists/craftsman I've been introduced to through them. I've used Pondside for landscaping, our fences, giant blue stone patio/steps, and for the stone walls on our pool house. They are also used by both of my neighbors now after seeing their work - Pondside is taking over my block! read more
