A curated breath of fresh air, Talbott & Arding met every one of our senses. The manicured market…read moreatmosphere, the varied assortment of luxury culinary treats, the sheer quality of ingredients paired expertly with each other on the daily menu, the locally sourced unique treasures of gifts and trinkets, the gentle pleasantness of the staff... everything comes together here to form a true and complete product. Talbott & Arding was chosen as our first stop on our girls' getaway journey. Tucked in the Hudson Valley, just an hour from the Berkshires, it was a sweetly energetic beginning to our day. We each chose a sandwich from the counter. My smoked salmon on focaccia was a delight. The bread, airy and light, beautifully happy yeast just bounding with lift, defying the constraints of olive oil which left my fingers gloriously glistening. I haven't had a focaccia as happy as that in a minute. Super thin radish, bright pickled shallot and fresh watercress all gave a nice vibrant touch. Ben's cream cheese couldn't possibly be creamier. And the delicate, silky, fresh, luxurious salmon... What a dream. So balanced. I filled my arms with goods- iberico salami, Aleppo chili oil, Blackstrap coffee beans, local chocolates, and an adorable Talbott & Arding puzzle. I'm sure I could have easily convinced myself to buy just about everything I laid my eyes upon. The cheese counter was an absolute work of art. It's clear that Talbott & Arding is a willing servant to the gifts of the surrounding earth and people. The homage it pays is palpable. Our stop at Talbott & Arding set the tone for an intentional, peaceful, vibrant, cozy, delicious, connected trip. I'll be back immediately.

Love the cheese and charcuterie, and they now carry Mel the Bakery bread for a one-stop A++ food shop in Hudson! Great for lunch in-house, or grab and go prepared sandwiches, foccacia pizza, salads galore! Good local food producers represented in refrigerator and freezer cases. With that and the prepared food case, it's so convenient and delicious to pick up a few items to complete a nutritious home meal. Oh and they are connected to and big boosters of Slow Food Hudson Valley. Feel good about where a large chunk o' your discretionary spending goes!

Both Brent and former owner, Ben Turley, may be familiar faces as they have appeared on several YouTube "Eater" videos. They both seem like nice, funny people. I was ready to really like this place because of the "familiarity" provided by social media exposure. Frankly, I wasn't wowed by what I bought. No complaints at all with the butcher, who was very accommodating. When I asked for pork belly, he asked if I wanted skin on or off. He also asked for the amount I wanted. 1 lb. and it was perfectly trimmed of skin, leaving unctuous layers of fat and meat. Cool. All good. House made hamburgers. This is where it went a little awry for me. Usually, it's an 80/20 mix of lean meat to fat. This was on the fattier side, more like 60/40. I wish I took a picture of it. I cooked the burger in an 8" skillet. By the time I thought the inside was cooked through (medium), the burger was literally swimming in its own fat. I ate it, after draining it on paper towels, but it wasn't what I expected. Is there a learning curve when you prepare organic meats as opposed to mass market stuff? Some items may be leaner and require less time to cook while other, fattier items, may not? Could the butcher provide a bit of info to inform the customers of what to expect? I admit I'm a bit ignorant on how to properly prepare these items. I'm willing to learn and I'll try again.
