Nice table tennis place close to the 101! The inside is actually not as big as I originally thought, but it IS very bright and clean, which is amazing for table tennis standards. Tuesday night is league night, so you can play round robin of about 5-6 games for $10--if you win you can play next week for free. There are lots of players who participate in league night, so you'll most likely be able to play with players around your level. The facilities are very clean, and they even provide free drinking water, which is the first time I've seen in any table tennis place. My husband was looking to reconnect with Table Tennis, he played some 20+ years ago. This was the closest place. We were excited to try it out. The first time we drove by, there were a few guys standing outside the place, they looked at us like we are lost. It turned out that one of those guys worked at Pong Planet. He didn't smile, he looked sort of annoyed to see beginner folks in his place. He gave us some info and told us the schedule. Super weird! Is Ping Pong elitist? They do not encourage new people to join in? He tried the drop in but every one there was not very nice. They did, however, manage to sell him the top of the line paddle. When we visited other Table Tennis place around the bay, they noticed his paddle right away. Then of course, they charge him $75 per hour for private lessons. He is a beginner! Anyway, unless you are very good at Ping Pong, stay away from this place. They only cater for experienced players. Table Tennis America has very nice people. They have a lot of very experienced players but very welcoming to those new to the sport. I also talked to Kevin Korb of Top Spin. He is also very nice and very supportive of new players. I think we will spend our money with those places than here. read more

Overall, the club itself is acceptable considering the price. Flooring can really use an update but the lower membership fee makes it acceptable. That being said, the coach/assistant manager named Daniel is a wholly dishonest THIEF. I purchased a bundle of 30 minute lessons, which added one free 30 minute lesson. The total amount was paid upfront and I was told to reach out when I wanted to make an appointment for a lesson. This arrangement went on without a hitch until I had three remaining lessons (one of which was the free lesson from the bundle). I had returned from a trip overseas (something I discussed with Daniel multiple times before this) and I reached out to set up a lesson. I was told that there was now an expiration date on my lessons. This was never mentioned at all and there was no documentation that was shown for the lesson bundle. I complained about this as there was never any mention of an expiration date. Daniel told me that he would help me out and agreed to extend the deadline by a month and a half. I do want to stress again that this was never mentioned prior to this point in time. This is where things began spiraling out of control. I wanted to take a lesson sometime in the following week so I asked him about his availability. He proceeded to tell me that he would be unavailable for lessons for the next month due to summer camps that Pong Planet would be running. This felt off to me as it seemed highly unlikely that he would not be able to make time for a 30 minute lesson for a whole month. I asked a practice partner who was also a member at Pong Planet to reach out to Daniel about lessons. He promptly let her know that he would be available the following day to give her a 30 minute lesson. It became clear that he was a dishonest person so I ended up ending my membership the following week and gave my remaining lessons to the practice partner (cleared with Daniel beforehand). Some time later, the practice partner let me know that she had reached out to Daniel about setting up a lesson. He initially responded immediately letting her know that he would be available the following day. When she inquired about using the lessons that I had transferred to her, he ghosted her. I really feel the need to stress that he cleared transferring over the lessons to her prior to this. After this fiasco, I, as well as two other members, quit our memberships and moved to a different club. As mentioned before, Pong Planet is an okay place to play. The people that play there are actually quite personable and there are almost always free tables. James (the owner) was always nice and went out of his way to greet people that came in. However, Daniel just makes this place not worth going to. It makes it worse that this guy is an assistant GM. He singlehandedly caused three members to quit just because he did everything possible to not honor three 30 minute lessons. read more

PongPlanet's opening in San Carlos was a dream come true for me since I live near by. It is an excellent facility with professional equipment and helpful and knowledgeable stuff. It is open daily, for the good part of the day so it is very easy to find time for drop in play. They also offer private and group classes that have been helpful so far. The only things I would suggest is better mechanism for pairing up similar skilled players. While there are players of all skill levels at the club, sometimes it could be very intimidating for the novice or even intermediate novice player to see some of the super human performers at the club. :-) Anyway, highly recommended for players of all skill levels and ages. I've been going to Pong Planet since the 3rd week they opened. I used to go to the Palo Alto one, but this new Location is super nice. Plenty of professional tables and professional padded floors. Walk in price is fair but full member prices are awesome. Considering how new it is, this facility is very professional and will only get better and better, as time goes on. I go at least 2 times a week and recommend Pong Planet to anyone who is interested in playing or learning Table Tennis; the #2 most played sport int he world! read more

Helped run SFTTC on Potrero Hill over 15 years and since I work just two miles from here this location has been great cuz 101 rush hour is real bad. This club is great, just off of 101 freeway, terrific lighting, new matted flooring, plenty of ceiling space for lobbers like me, and two large rooms to extend your playing field with others. You also have great coaches to choose from so this is the place for beginners, average players (like myself), and elite players who strive to better their game in all facets of development. I wish I knew about this place when I first started playing over thirty years ago. Come down and check it out, cuz it won't cost you a thing since the first day is free. Everything is great except i am disappointed about the level drop, there used to tens of great players in the old PATTC when i played there from 1996 to 2001, i would lose one out of 2 matches, now i only lose one out of 10 matches, does it really i improved that much or this club has lost many great players? kind of pricey for pong. Last time I went with my boyfriend, it was $14, alameda is $5. Richmond Recreation Center and Lawton Recreation Center in the City is free. This is pong and should not cost an arm or a leg to play. They charge crazy amount fr a broken ball. I can buy you back a whole bucket for a few bucks. Avoid like the plague. Sour crusty old timer with a chip on his shoulders the size of his hemroid! First time there for me playing and having a wonderful time with my girl. And the I believe the owner comes over and asks us to move the other room. Which in it self is not the problem but it was very much a problem in the way we were approached. And the way he kept repeating there plenty of room on the other side like we were children and had done a horrible act against nature by playing in the wrong room. I came here to take a look at the facilities and purchase some protective plastic for my paddle. A gentleman came to the front asking how he could help. I explained what I was looking for and he pointed to their sheets of rubber. I reiterated I have a paddle, with rubber, I am looking to protect with plastic sheets. He looked really confused and told me to come back at 4pm when the manager would be at the store. Huh? I think he is one of the coaches here too. I love ping pong and try to play as much as I can. The place is nice but the only big issue I have is that they put all the tables so close to each other. Every 2 minutes there are balls flying in from other tables and it really disrupts the game flow. You need some space when it comes to ping pong but it's very limited due to the cramming of the tables in one area. read more

So excited to have joined this club. I've been doing the Thursday group lessons and going to open play a few evenings a week. Very friendly, diverse group of players that immediately made me feel welcome, helped me find people to play with, and showed me the ropes of the club. Also got a custom paddle here and am really happy with my much-improved TT skills! The group classes can be a bit hit-or-miss, depending on who else shows up that day (you spend part of the time playing with the instructor, part of the time playing with the other students), but overall it's been a great experience and I've improved noticeably. Plus, I leave each lesson having gotten a serious cardio workout! Most fun way to exercise. read more

I have come to this club 3 times so far. It is a decent place with players at various skill levels present. I don't write a lot of reviews but would like to show support for this place after reading the two recent negative reviews (apparently from the same people). The data quoted by Yumiko was wrong. Alameda table tennis club charges $7 for drop-in, not $5 as she stated. Housing prices (& rent) in San Carlos are much higher than Alameda's. It is only natural that costs are higher in this area. read more

Over the past several months we have tried to come in the evenings, but there are never tables available. We are relegated to a back room without air circulation, should we choose to play. I've been going to PongPlanet ever since the center opened and it's been a great addition to my life ever since I moved up from LA. It's a place I would go to for stress relieve, whether it is after work or during the weekends. This club gives everyone the opportunity to meet everyone of all ages. It's also a great place for parents to give their child the opportunity to learn the sport. There are currently three elite coaches who are all very experienced, supportive and helpful. When you enter the center there is a huge HDTV and they usually show international matches. Ever since I found out about this place, I decided to get back into the sport. I started playing a lot of pong at work and slowly but surely started to really take to the game. Invested in a paddle and then I found this place to come to on the weekends. I've lost 12lbs since I've been coming here. I usually come with a buddy but when he can't show up, other folks ask me to play with them. Expert to Novice players here. Being here makes you accelerate your game and want to get to that next level. League night on Tuesdays but have yet to attend. There are people here willing to teach you a few things which is a nice treat. Ultimately they want you to play better so they can have a better challenger. read more

My daughter has been participating in their junior training program for 4 years now. I'm just so excited when they finally decided to open in San Carlos. All three coaches there are very patient and experienced with teaching kids. The member community is very friendly as well. Many parent players will help coach the kids and are also great challenge opponents during open play. Their facilities is probably the best in the bay area. The special flooring and lighting really make them stand out among all the clubs. Pong Planet has a very spacious and comfortable waiting room. With free Wi-Fi access and a big screen tv, my daughter has spent a lot of time there doing homework or just hanging out with her ping pong buddies. This is a great place to play table tennis! The tables and lighting are good and the floor is high quality material of some sort that is good for your knees. You don't have to have a partner because everyone is very friendly and willing to play with new comers. They also have highly qualified coaches for lessons, league play and group lessons. The team put in really nice professional flooring.They sort of created a European club feel - full time/a sitting area/ and for summer time, they have AC!. great lighting - good stuff. it's a lot of fun to go play there.
