Overall rating for BKC = "F" - "Designer" (Gavy) = "F-"…read more - Resolving our huge list of issues/problems (Gavy, Heather, Paul) = "D-" - Showroom = "C+" - Installer/repairs (Brian, John) = "B" - Delivery = "C" We engaged BKC primarily because they represented the line/manufacturer of the cabinets we wanted for our complete kitchen remodel (Eclipse). We were assigned a designer, Gavy, to create a rather simple cabinet layout design for our pretty straight-forward kitchen. Most new cabinetry was nearly the same or very similar to our existing layout. But Gavy got many things wrong from the first iteration (for example, we all discussed and agreed in our initial meeting that we'd add a small island to our kitchen, that we all accepted the minimal clearances, and that we all agreed adding a peninsula of any kind would not work; the first layout design had a peninsula!). We found Gavy to have limited or no knowledge of design principles to help guide aesthetic decisions, and we ended up specifying our own details for what to include in the layout design and details for the cabinetry choices. Gavy proved to be a salesperson with some training on the layout cad software rather than an actual "designer". We chose our own installer, mainly because after our cabinets were ordered, we had lost trust in BKC. During installation, several serious layout design errors were found and we began multiple rounds of getting BKC to correct these problems, leaving us with a partially-completed kitchen for months. Errors included lack of needed clearance for the built-in freezer/fridge unit and the adjacent microwave handle - the handle would have hit/dented the fridge door upon opening. Other cabinet bases were simply ordered incorrectly (some were also incorrectly manufactured by Eclipse). BKC did finally accept some responsibility for their errors as did (apparently) the cabinet manufacturer. This required endless emails and conference calls, culminating with working through all problems with the CEO/person in charge. Solutions took multiple rounds of ordering cabinet replacements (including entire cabinet boxes worth thousands), multiple installation sessions and overall delays of several months. BKC did work with us through the bitter end of getting almost everything acceptably done. It was painful. It was extremely frustrating and disruptive. It was extremely disappointing. After spending around $50k, we would never recommend BKC for anything, ever, to anyone.

Cons......The designer was passive/aggressive, detached and disorganized.....which resulted in many, many weeks of delays. These delays came, from the designer, in the form of....poor/no communication; repeated cabinet drawing/rendering errors, scheduled installation changes [by her]; failure to order appropriate cabinet parts/materials. Other than the professionals who installed and serviced the cabinetry this was a long, painful and exhausting experience with BKC. For that reason I would highly recommend they be excluded as a cabinetry vendor option.

The patio furniture was old, worn, and sun-faded, which detracted from the home's appearance, and my request for a refund on that portion was denied. The indoor furniture was also very taste-specific and not what we felt would appeal to our target buyers. Communication could have been stronger, as removal timing was unclear, and I was surprised to have to vacuum and clean up after both the installation and removal. Overall, I was disappointed by the furniture choices, lack of collaboration, and the feeling that we had little input despite making a significant investment in the service. Response *We had countless vendors involved in preparing the home for sale, so the staging was just one part of a much larger process. The home was also located in a highly desirable neighborhood that is difficult to get into and features protected mountain views, so we already anticipated strong buyer interest and a relatively quick sale. While we did receive positive feedback on the home itself, that feedback was not specifically related to the staging. In fact, we also received some negative comments regarding the staging, as the furniture selections felt very specific in style and not broadly appealing. We were also expecting an initial consultation meeting, but instead only an assistant came to take photos and measurements, and left. There was no discussion of the staging plan, furniture selections, or overall vision, so both my realtor and I both came for nothing, really. Because the home sold within two days, I did not fully realize how worn and old the patio furniture was in time to act, but given that I had no input into the furniture that was brought in, I felt it was reasonable to request an adjustment for that portion of the staging alone since I had specifically requested it and didn't realize that any staging company would use furniture that looked so rough. Had I known what would be used, I would have just used my own patio set. My disappointment is not personally, but more with the process itself. For the cost involved, I had hoped for at least some opportunity to provide input or have concerns addressed fairly, but it all seemed. very lop-sided. Ultimately, it was an expensive service that did not feel collaborative, when it is still our home, so it is not a process I would not choose to repeat with this company.

In the beginning as we were collecting quotes, I was impressed with how responsive Kim was, I also felt like their prices were very reasonable in comparison to the other companies. We had a pantry, closet and a portion of a wall removed to make our house built in 1908 more open concept. New hardwood floors throughout the first floor. We also did new cabinets and countertops through kitchen creations. Kim helped us pick out our farmhouse sink. In an effort to save some money we did the backsplash, light fixtures and painting (though I wish we would have had Al (Tivoli Contracting) do the painting as most of it still isn't done ;). During the renovation the stairs to upstairs (we lovingly referred to as our apartment) was taped off to minimize dust etc. They were usually there promptly at 8a and would knock prior to entering despite the lock box. I would say I spent most days upstairs at the house during renovation. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat and would go back to Kitchen Creations and Al for future renovations!

A local tile store offered free consultations, but having done that for our past bathroom remodel, I knew their expertise was narrower in scope and limited to what they had in stock. Enter Faris and her great ideas! She suggested a color to paint our cabinets that would tie into an existing island we had. She had an idea for backsplash that would coordinate, and also not immediately look dated once the current style became yesterday's hot new thing. I actually found a tile that worked even better than what she suggested, but I never would have considered it if she hadn't suggested that style, or introduced me to a non-local website. If you're considering investing in a $10k kitchen upgrade or a $60k total overhaul, I feel like this is money very well spent. I left our meeting more excited about our mini renovation that I ever was before. A word of advice and why I deducted a star...they are very strict about their billing, so try to be concise and not mess around during your meeting. I enjoyed her company and attempted to establish rapport, but all of that turned out to be billable time. The 7 minutes she was late; the time I took to make us tea; the stories she told about other clients; the time she took a call regarding another project...I was billed for the full time. I'm still VERY glad she came out, and I would hire them again in a second if we decide to undertake another project--I'll just be more conscious of time if we do.

Wow, I don't even know where to start! A remodel that touched as many parts of a home as ours did…read moreis so incredibly personal, and emotional at times, but from the first moment we met Crystal of TVL Creative, I knew I was working with someone who would hold my hand; and guide me with the perfect blend of love, creativity, passion, and experience. Our project was not a straightforward kitchen or master bathroom remodel, in fact it was just about every part of our home needing attention but those. And so the daunting task of finding someone who could not only take on a project of that scale, especially because we really didn't have a ton of ideas as to what we wanted beyond a few basics like "get rid of the dark wood (railings, doors, trim), update hall bathroom, total redesign/redocorate of family room, create a pool table room in our living room, and update the closet space on main level". That's how I explained it to Crystal via their website seeking a consultation after seeing the amazing work they did on a friend's kitchen remodel. And from the moment Crystal came for our initial, and free (!), consultation I knew I was headed the right direction. First, once Crystal came to the house, she walked through the whole project with me and my husband, took photos, asked great questions and offered interesting ideas to gauge our design personality. Then she followed up with a complimentary 3D photorealistic rendering of what our pool table room could look like (which we ended up making pretty much no changes to!). We knew from that point that we were all in with TVL!! Their pricing is super flexible, offering their services hourly on an a la carte basis. But even though it's hourly, they tell you how long they think it will take and that's all you pay, so they can't gouge you unexpectedly. With the a la carte, you can choose just their design services, and/or material purchasing and delivery management and/or staging, assembly & installation, and/or contractor recommendation/alignment, and/or project management and site visits. Well, I hate all things design and wanted to be as hands-off as possible, so I signed up for everything!! We then set a budget for everything else and we were on our way! We started talking to Crystal almost 6 months before starting our project. But we filled our first weeks with lots of back and forth via email (my preference and hers), sharing renderings and discussing ideas of what we wanted our family room to look like. By the third rendering she had nailed that design down for us. We then locked down the design details of the other parts of the project. Then began the fun of shopping and ordering all of the beautiful new things. Crystal understands how timing works for things like a custom order couch, and since she knew we had some pretty specific criteria including the need to actually be able to test it out in person, she began the hunt for our perfect couch plenty early. And she found it!! That was the beginning of many successful shopping missions Crystal accomplished for us; both in stores and lots online too. She confirmed all purchases with us before buying, provided us with receipts as well as a spreadsheet tracking all expected and actual spending to assure us our budget was still on track. Crystal was reassuring every time I started freaking out about this or that. She was patient when I became obsessed with finding the *perfect* console table, such a small piece of furniture in the grand scheme of everything else but she made it her priority to find me that perfect table with a smile and good humor. Once the time finally came to start the project, it could not have gone any better!! Everything from our contractor she recommended, to the painters and the carpet install, to the tiniest of details-she attended to them professionally and with a genuine desire to act in our best interest. Our project was completed in the expected time frame, and her team killed themselves to ensure we'd have our home done and ready for a New Year's Eve party. There were a few follow up items like returning/replacing broken or incorrect deliveries, and Crystal handled it all with such grace and was fully committed to the very end with us. Most impressively, we ended up UNDER BUDGET! Not by a ton, but without sacrificing any of our needs and wants, we still had a little money left over at the end! How often do you hear of a remodel that is ON TIME and UNDER BUDGET!? Not often, because they didn't have Crystal and TVL guiding them every step of the way. Also, keep in mind they work with ALL budgets, so while other contractors or designers might scoff at your budget or if you think there's no way you can do what you want on your budget, I encourage you to contact TVL to find out for yourself. They take a fresh approach to design and construction, and are nothing like any design firm your mom (ha, or my mom) has every used!!

If you choose to work with her, do not let her refer you to Hummingbird HRD (Crystal and Brian Mansanares), as that is where everything unraveled. Jaime first helped me after a Christmas morning plumbing disaster, and at the outset, she was fantastic--quick to respond, knowledgeable, and actively engaged in creating thoughtful layouts. Because things seemed to be going well, we also hired her for additional design work in our kitchen and living room. But when she referred us to Hummingbird as the general contractor, she stepped away entirely, leaving us in the hands of an inexperienced team that led to an overpriced, incomplete, and poorly executed renovation. Where Things Went Wrong Jaime and Crystal turned out to be personal friends rather than longtime collaborators, and our home was essentially a "guinea pig project"--a fact Jaime admitted only after things had gone terribly wrong. The staggering lack of professionalism from Hummingbird resulted in months of stress, wasted money, and a home that remains unfinished to this day. After Crystal declared the project "done" (despite glaringly poor workmanship), I asked Jaime to see the state of things herself. She agreed with me that the quality was unacceptable and even apologized for how badly things had turned out. She admitted that Crystal lacked the necessary experience and recognized that we had been unintentionally used as a test project. To make matters worse, she also told me, "Wow, I didn't realize you were so detail-oriented--I would feel exactly the same." As if they thought they could get away with subpar work and I wouldn't notice--truly insulting. Jaime's Final Disappointing Choice To her credit, Jaime convinced Crystal and Brian to attempt to fix their mess, but she ultimately abandoned the project. Despite personally acknowledging all the flaws, she later sent me a completely contradictory statement: "I have every faith in Hummingbird completing the project as promised, and overall, I believe they have done an exceptional job." This project was supposed to take 4-6 weeks starting in March--it was still dragging on in November, at which point I cut ties entirely because it was no longer worth the emotional toll. To this day, our home remains unfinished and cheap-looking, a painful reminder of the stress and financial loss we endured. What We Actually Got for Jaime's Fees After paying her design fees for both the bathroom and kitchen/living room, all we truly received was: * Layout options * A recommendation for Hummingbird (which proved disastrous) * Help selecting a kitchen table and rug Had we gone with a different general contractor, I might be writing a glowing five-star review. Unfortunately, given how this played out, I cannot recommend Jaime Langer at all.

Our developer used YK Stone and we couldn't be more disappointed. The quartz they installed had…read moresignificant discoloration from the start (why they thought this was acceptable to install is beyond me). They keep saying "that is how the stone comes", which is a lie as we compared the same quartz to other homes in our neighborhood who installed it. The reality is they had a poor project manager who did not check his work and they do not want to admit it. We also had a granite expert come in and confirm this is not normal and that the quartz was not properly sealed. I would highly recommend staying away from using this company, and if you have a developer, make it clear to them that you want a different company used for your countertops.

I have purchased remnants from YK twice. Both experiences were outstanding. They have a nice…read moreselection of remnants to choose from. The stones were cut and polished perfectly. The customer service was excellent. Even the guys at their fabrication facility were very helpful, friendly, and kind. And best of all, the remnants were ready very fast and at a fair price. I'm sure we will look at YK Stone when we get countertops for our next remodeling project. I highly recommend YK Stone.
