Monday morning, received the call that Poor Folks Tree Service was on the way. The entire crew were there on time to get the job completed. From the Foreman, Tree cutting guy and the rest of the crew, provided World Class Service!!! They explained what the process was and really made me feel like a valued customer!!! I had 5 different quotes and they were the best!!! Lastly, their office manager also made the process easy by calling City Utilities to have the grounds marked up to show gas lines, electric and water lines. Let me start by thanking both Tom and Steve for their service to our country. Poor folks came and took down the tree I wanted within an hour (great job guys). I paid them in cash for the tree removal and to have the stump grounded. The were not able to get the stump grounded that day. They promised to do it the following week that was two weeks ago. I do understand that plans change but I did paid ahead. I fulfilled my part of the contract I am still waiting for poor folks tree service to fulfilled theirs. read more

After reading the reviews of fellow people on yelp I was hesitant on hitting this service. But I did and I'm absolutely thrilled with the job they did. This company was absolutely amazing, they gave me a quote (I received 2 more from other companies) and they were the cheapest. I called them and told them I'd like them to come and cut it down. They told me it would be about 2 weeks, I thought ok the tree has been there for at least 25 years what's another two weeks. They called me Friday and let me know that I was on their schedule for the next week. Needless to say they were here at 2pm and gone by 2:45 they cleaned up and were professional. I definitely recommend them to anyone for any tree service needs. They were cheaper than my own father who quoted me $1000 to do it!!! Haha maybe win I hit the lottery dad. read more

These guys did a great job. We had a very difficult tree that was overhanging our lake and dock. They worked hard and took the tree down without dropping anything in the lake, or on the dock. I was amazed by the climber and how well they rigged all of the branches down. Afterwards everything was cleaned up and without any turf damage. Very professional and thorough. I highly recommend them. Picture makes it look small, but it was 70'+ high. read more

I contracted Poor Folks Tree Service to remove 4 trees from my backyard, including one large one that was very close to my pool. The price quoted was fair and reasonable. On the day they showed up, I asked the foreman if I could also have 4 small crepe Myrtles removed. He made a call and negotiated a very fair price to add those 4 trees. They were very skilled on the removal of the tree just feet from my pool. Not one branch splashed in the deep end. Unfortunately, there was an incident where a limb fell on my fence and broke the fence. The workers were kind enough to run to the hardware store and then to fix it to the best of their abilities. Fence builders, they are not. While I appreciate their concern for keeping my dog in my yard, the repair looked quite ridiculous. It was crooked, it did not follow the same pattern, and some of the wood used was interior wood. Regarding the 4 additional crepe myrtles that I paid extra for, they only removed 3 of them before they left. It turned out that one of the trees was not a crepe Myrtle, so the foreman erred on the side of caution. I do appreciate his caution in that situation, but I wanted it removed nonetheless and it took several more weeks and phone calls to get them to come out and remove that tree which I had already paid for. Jen, the office manager, was always professional and friendly and did her best to help me get my work completed. There were some issues with equipment and trucks breaking down, and family emergencies that slowed down the work. I also had paid to have all the stumps ground down which also took several weeks to have done due to the reasons listed above. Once the trees were all taken care of, I was able to move forward with my backyard makeover. I did have to pay a fencing company to repair the fence properly, and another tree service to finish grinding a few stumps in order to install the landscaping. Overall, they are skilled technicians who arrived on time and were friendly and professional. The price was fair and reasonable. The reason I can't rate them 5 stars is because it took 6 weeks to get the job done from the day they took the first tree down. I would have preferred more updates when there were equipment and transportation issues causing the delay in their return to finish the job. read more

This company is terrible to deal with. They damaged the easement behind my home and when contacted about repairing the damage they refused to come back out and were rude on the phone. Had these guys remove 5 gumball trees yesterday. The price was fair and everyone in the office from the salesperson/estimator to the scheduler was on time and friendly. Although I was not home when the work was performed my wife told me everyone was so nice and pleasant to deal with. When I came home I thought our lawn service had come on the same day as all of the gum balls that were on our driveway, back deck and front porch were gone! Turns out it was just these awesome guys doing some extra clean-up that they didn't have to do! Great experience...highly recommend! read more

these guys asked me if i would move my vehicles so they could stack a 120 year old oak tree in front of my house that they were cutting down from the house across the street. these mf removed the logs from in front of my house. and left 350 -450 lbs of debis in front of my house blocking my gutter drain and street curb trashed. i had to clean it all up myself. ive had 2 back surgeries and ongoing back issues. . my hip is out now because i had to do their job. these guys suck and cant be trusted to clean up in front if your house if your nice enough to let them stack wood in front your home so tget can work. let them rot before you say yes to helping then. read more

After meeting with the owner today, I feel the company is truly interested in customer satisfaction. The below review is amended to reflect that. " The two crews who showed yesterday were unprofessional and at odds with each other. As a result the job took way too long and finished in total darkness. Lawn was left deeply rutted, debris was scattered throughout yard and street and understory plants were badly damaged. I called Poor Folks Tree Service for an estimate on a Magnolia tree that was dead and needed to be cut down. They came out quickly and gave me a competitive quote. I accepted their quote the same day (March 2nd) in hopes to get it taken care of quickly before it fell on our home. They told me they would call when they had a date. It is April 26th and I never got a call. Their lack of customer service causes me to suggest you look elsewhere. I went with Colonial Tree service who communicated very well and came out within a week for $200 less than what Poor Folks quoted me. Customer service, communication is everything! read more

These people are painful PAINFUL to talk to. In their defense I was unable to be physically present for the estimate. Because of this, I did spend ample time speaking to Mike detailing my concerns repeatedly. He said he understood and completed an estimate and emailed it to me. Seemed to be going well. Then I responded promptly to the email asking to schedule the work asap. No response. So I texted Mike. No response. I emailed again, no response. Thought it was because of the weekend. I tried the office and spoke to Jen who was defensive and condescending. I tried to continue professionally. She told me he didn't respond because "I'm supposed to call her to schedule the work" which was never disclosed to me. I told her she should maybe tell people that. The person who does the estimate evidently isn't allowed to respond for questions about the work or scheduling. I finally talked to Mike who evidently had no recollection of what I stressed was important to me to have done and hadn't even looked at those trees and would need to return for another separate estimate. Jen was rude to talk to. Just wasted a week of my time that I could have had someone reliable so an estimate and get me scheduled. She also said the amount of money I can pay at once would set precedence for my turn in line. She was very clear that $$$ is more important than professionalism and gaining and retaining good customers. Fail. Mike was very nice though so there's that. read more

Paid them to cut down my big tree back in May 2018. They said the stump would be only 4-6 inches. The chain saw broke down. Said they were waiting on a part to fix the big saw. They never came back. Called them 4 times since to find out whats up. Here its now the end of 2018 and i still have a 5 foot tree sticking outta the ground. The crew was great and did a great job. But the follow up to finish the job never happened. read more

This company is the only tree service I would ever call! Even if I had to wait a bit to get onto their schedule, it would be worth the wait! We just had them do some trimming of trees and shrubbery, and were again reminded of why we call them year after year. The years of experience this service and its owner have in the business really show. The work is done safely and effectively. The service people are courteous and professional. The supervisor on site works to make sure the customer and workers are clear on the customer's expectations. And finally, everything is cleaned up so that I would never know they were there except for my beautifully trimmed trees. read more

2 weeks ago-Edit Like it has already been stated. Communication is everything. As a disabled veteran I went with Poor Folk because of his military affiliation. I called to set up an appointment for a quote, they said he will be out in 2 days. After waiting a week I called back. Why? Because no one called me. I was again told he will be in your area tomorrow. Well tomorrow came and went with no contact what so ever from this company. After 3 more days a quote was in my door. I finally had to call once again to set an appointment and was told that they promised they will be out on Thursday. Well you guessed it. No show. So I called them. Only to be told sorry they are very busy with the storm damage. I asked why I could not even get a phone call back, I was told they are sorry. About 1 hour later I finally got a phone call from this company. She asked me if maybe I have them mistaken for another company as they did not have any written knowledge of my appointment. I explained I did not have them confused with anyone else, as I did not contacted any other tree service. Their communication is a large issue and by reading another comment and on going issue. I requested service via telephone they came out and gave me a bid on the job it took them 4 months to get to our home and did not complete the services they promised and contracted to do. The service that I paid for was not completed they said they would send a supervisor over to look at and I have not heard from them since. VERY DISAPPOINTED will never use again read more

Poor Folks Tree Service conducted their service at my home in Virginia Beach in June 2014. The tree trimming was adequately done but my back yard was left a total mess. My complaint with the service involves how Poor Folks left my fence gate. Poor Folks removed the gate from the fence in order to access the back yard with their equipment. The first problem with that action is that it was totally unnecessary. If they had bothered to look at the other side of the house, they would have seen that there is a double-wide access gate on the other side of the house. The second problem is that Poor Folks re-installed the gate incorrectly, at the end of the day. My wife and I have called Poor Folks at least nine times over the past two months to ask that someone come back out and correctly re-install the gate. We were told each time we called that the owner would have someone fix the gate (and usually we were told it would be that week). Each time, nobody came out to fix the gate. So what rankles us the most is the obvious lack of integrity that the owner of Poor Folks displays. We were lied to at least nine times, via the receptionist at Poor Folks, by the owner. He does not even have the integrity to take the call personally, or to personally call us back, to tell us that he would take care of the gate problem. I think it is great that the owner of Poor Folks was a Seal while he served in the U.S. Navy. I have the highest regard for Navy Seals. I object, however, to him placing the Seal insignia on his business website, to promote his business. I, too, served in the U.S. Navy, and do not want any U.S. Navy insignia or logos to be sullied or tarnished by being displayed in close proximity with (or on the websites of) unscrupulous businesses. I am willing to update my review of Poor Folks, if someone from the company actually comes out and fixes my gate like we were told numerous times by the owner would happen. One should note that Poor Folks is not a member of the Better Business Bureau. I registered a complaint with the BBB also, but because Poor Folks is not a member of the BBB, the company is not obligated to respond to complaints registered with the BBB. Poor Folks currently has an "F" rating with the BBB. We did not think to consult with the BBB before selecting Poor Folks for our service. read more
