Calling all book lovers! Run, don't walk, to Poor Richard's Books in Frankfort, KY. This amazing independent bookstore is located on Broadway, across the street from the old capitol building. Stepping inside this bookstore was simply magical and gave yesteryear vibes. The building's character, the flooring, the smell, the stacks and ladders, the cozy size, the well-placed seating throughout for relaxing and reading, and the helpful and knowledgable staff come together to provide a book store experience like no other. The store sells new and used books and everything from current best sellers and children's books to historical books. After browsing the downstairs, a trip up the steps to the attic brings a large selection of antique and historical books, magazines, and documents. In addition to books there are hand-drawn cards, mugs, book-related gifts and so much more. Do allow plenty of time to browse during your visit (adventure!) to Old Richard's. The bookstore has an indoor walkthrough to the Coffeetree Cafe next next door, which is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee drink and flip through your book purchases! read more

While I was only in town for a few days, I found every excuse to check out this very cute bookstore and stationary store when I could! An excellent spot to find new reads or grab some fun cards to send to friends and family (guilty!), you won't be disappointed! With the connector to the next door coffee shop, grab a coffee and order a snack, but peruse this great bookstore while you wait. During a day visit to Frankfort, KY my wife and I visited Poor Richard's Book's on Main Street. If you are a true lover of books both new and especially new, this is your place. One of its 'calling cards' is the second floor attic that houses a fair amount of old treasures. You will be there a while perusing the myriad of selections. This locally owned bookstore has a rustic feel and features a coffe/pastry shop next door. It also features best sellers,new releases, local interest sources and gifts. My wife and I purchased several children's books for the grand daughter due this Christmas. read more

From the vibe, appearance, the attic is super cool! I purchased 2 books and they even wrapped them and added handmade bows! The lady working was so sweet and friendly! I work in Frankfort. While I don't love the commute, regular visits to Poor Richard's Books makes up for it. This little independent bookshop is packed to the brim with the national bestsellers, books of local interest, and gifts - and that's just the downstairs area. Upstairs you'll find stacks and stacks of old books and magazines. Walking up the stairs brings out the kid in me. It's like finding a secret passageway or a hidden treasure. Adventures await. Connected to Poor Richard's is the Coffeetree Café, where you can grab a latte and a snack - or a whole meal. And attached to that is the Completely Kentucky store, which sells products crafted and created by Kentuckians. I can't visit one without visiting the other two. But I usually make Poor Richard's the final - and longest - stop. I love it. read more

This is one of the many gems in downtown Frankfort. I wasn't expecting much because, well frankfort is small, and lacks a lot. I walked in, immediately I knew it was amazing. They had new and older books. At first, I didn't even know you could go upstairs, I'm so glad I ventured up there. It is full of old books and I would never know about poor Richard's books if I didn't walk downtown. read more

Poor Richards is a great place to go to find both new and old books. My favorite is the attic, I've found some really cool books and atlases up there. I love sitting at the table right by the large window and reading. The store and reasonably priced and the staff is always nice. I definitely recommend Poor Richards. read more
