Which, did not happen earlier today after the 3 messages my dad left for his office, requesting a blood infusion with a 6.1 Hgb count, that was discovered at another related facility. So, after sitting all day with his 6.1 Hgb, and feeling lethargic, but waiting for Dr. Jacoub's office to call him back, he finally had a neighbor drive him to the ER at 11:15 pm. Dr. Jacoub was very personable. However, he told me this was the first time today he had heard there was an issue with my dad. So, either the nurses/office staff do not give messages to the doctor, or the doctor gets the message but ignores it. Had Dr. Jacoub or his office returned my dad's call from 11:15, and the afternoon calls, to schedule a transfusion then he would not have had to go to the ER tonight. I hope the Office doesn't say it was because there was not an available bed for a transfusion. That would stink on their behalf if there was, but they said there wasn't. Hopefully the Office will own up to what happened. Oh. Another reason for 2-stars vs 1-star was that Dr. Jacoub called the ER to check on my dad's condition, after I requested it. I look forward to the office manager or administrator responding via message.

I decided to look into other options and did a search for places I could pay out of pocket. When I lived in Mexico, I had been using the services at a local hospital, paying a monthly membership fee for their services so imagine my surprise when I found out that the exact same system existed here. That was when I found Dr. Marisse so I booked an appointment. I found her originally on Zocdoc and the nearest appointment was in a month and a half. Within a day of making the appointment, I was called by the office to Nurse Shawna who wanted to make sure that I knew that all appointments needed a preliminary chat with the Doc, after which I could book my appointment. thanked me for letting her know that the next available appointment was that far away. It turned out there was a mix-up and that she did have more immediate appointments available. There is plenty of parking, as it is in shared parking lot with other businesses. However, there are two buildings with the same building number but with different locale numbers. Upper Echelon is in the building nearest to the AAA and the Farmer Boys. At the appointment, everything was clearly explained and we went over a sort of plan of attack, with regards to my concerns and what I needed to do. I appreciated paying less per month for the membership, which includes as many appointments as you want. The lab work and the tests are at wholesale prices so even with the membership fee and registration, all of this was cheaper than the plan I was going to get with insurance. What I appreciated was the quickness of getting an appointment. I have always hated waiting a few weeks, as a new patient, before actually being seen but I was able to book this within a week of the appointment. It was a week because their availability interfered with my work hours. Otherwise, I would have been seen earlier. All in all, it is pretty convenient and a wallet-friendly option. After that first appointment and the lab results came in, Dr. Marisse wrote a VERY long email detailing every point of concern. Which I appreciated because I went for answers and I was getting them. If you need a straightforward person to tell you what you need to be doing and not someone who has to be on your ass every step of the way, this is the ideal option. I would say the ONLY con is that they do not have appointments during the weekends. And since I work during the week, I have to take time off to go to an appointment.

Also, I had surgery pending and the surgeon and I needed to be assisted with pre-surgery and post surgery medication guidelines. My, initial visit was on 11/18/2019. I met with Dr. Deo and his NP, (Nurse Practitioner), Kathy You. They listened to my concerns about my INR range and concern about pending surgery. Dr. Deo was very understanding and reassuring. Both Dr. Deo and "Kathy" read my medication log dating back to 2015, and looked at a photo taken after a surgery in 2015. The photo showed my having a very large hematoma that had an infection resulting in a RN visiting my home, every day, for 30 days (including weekends). The surgery on 12/5/2019 was successful. I have ongoing contact with "Kathy" re medication dosages and with other staff. Dr. Deo is very pleasant, knowledgeable, and caring. He has over 20 years in hematology, oncology, and internal medicine. The office is in a convenient location; the staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. It is easy to book an appointment and to reach a medical person if necessary. Without hesitation, I highly, recommend Dr. Deo to my family, friends, and to you.

I'm about to go on too long but let me just say, if I had another child get cancer, I'd have Dr. Deo be his/her oncologist. She was running a mile with me one day and then coughing up part of her lung the next day. Eventually we found out that, even though she just celebrated her 18th birthday, she had stage 4 cancer. Including a tumor collapsing her left lung, and various cancer spots throughout her lymphatic system. Dr. Deo was very proactive in his treatment of her. He came to us before we even knew it was cancer. He started her on stuff in preparation for the treatments she'd need if it was in fact cancer. Turns out he gave us a 2 day head start. When a pick line couldn't be used, due to the tumor blocking the area, he called in a surgeon on the weekend to come in to put in a portacath, in order to start her chemo immediately. He told her he'd try to get her to prom and graduation. Two things she was very sad about possibly missing out on, due to the harshness of chemotherapy. Sure enough, he was right. I met with 3 other specialists from other top oncology centers and everyone had their own ideas for treatment. I also studied the most recent medical studies online and saw that his choice of treatment was the ideal one at this time. Dr. Deo is a man of little words, but one that keeps up to date on the latest oncology treatments. He would have weekly meetings with his team of other oncologists about my daughter, and get feedback. He has an excellent chemist in office and was able to tinker with various meds to keep my little girl as comfortable as possible during and between treatments. My girl is almost 20 now and has had clean scans for over a year. No signs of cancer. She's now a college scholarship athlete and doing great in school. Thanks to Dr. Deo, his team of oncologists, nurses, chemist, receptionist, and staff.

As soon as I exited the elevator, I noticed it on the left hand side. It immediately caught my attention because LASIK is something I've been wanting to do for years. After my husband's appointment I had a little bit of time and thought to go in and ask a few questions. They were able to see me as a walk-in and the whole staff were extremely friendly. After my testing, I waited for a bit and Dr. Zhu checked in on me and let me know it'd be a little longer. The wait was a little long but Evelyn came in and took me into her office to give me the price break down until the Dr. was free which I liked so I wouldn't have to wait too long. The pricing is competitive and reasonable. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see Dr. Zhu because I had to pick up my kids from daycare. I understood that I was a walk-in and there were patients there with actual appointments. I'll be returning on Thursday to finish my appointment and hopefully if all goes well I'll be scheduling the treatment shortly after. I can only imagine the care would match the customer service.

As a pediatric general dentist, I'm seeing 40-80 kids a day - to say my vision is critical is an understatement, and I'd only be trusting my eyes to the best. LASIK has completely changed my daily clinical and non-clinical life, and even 5 or so years after my original surgery date, easily remains one of the best health related expenses I've ever done. For those of you interested in the academic side of things, Dr. Zhu is well credentialed - a Harvard graduated MD, with Ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute / USC & Los Angeles County Medical Center. Her fellowship was at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. As if that's not enough, she still does research and mentors upcoming residents. This level of training and active commitment to the medical community as a whole speaks volumes to the caliber of clinician that Dr. Zhu is and aspires to build unto others. Non-academically, Dr. Zhu herself is incredibly personable, and shows an unwavering commitment to her patients - even years later, she personally follows up me multiple times, and is as interested in my own vision outcomes as I am. She is thorough, detail-oriented, and can confidently convey the same depth and breath of knowledge to her patients. Due to my correction being borderline for the limits of LASIK, all contingencies were planned for to ensure excellent outcomes. Even years later, I have not had a single post-op complication, including zero days of dry eyes. Dr. Zhu is an amazing eye surgeon, and more importantly, an awesome human being. I'm absolutely ecstatic about the care I've received, and cannot recommend Dr. Zhu any more highly.
