If we could give this half a 0, we certainly would. Sitting here in my mother's living room with my aunt and my mother, thankfully we are in a warm and safe environment because otherwise my aunt could be in deep PERIL!!!. She requested service 5+ hours ago and counting, as she locked her keys in her trunk and required assistance. All-state selected pop-a-lock to be that assistance. The tracking app which displays where the help being sent to "your rescue" is located, continually shifts in time whilst the "unlocking savior being sent" seems to be sitting shiva at their last location over an hour and a half of way. She's called 5x and counting to inquire about the assistance, in which they've just now informed her that the tracker is inaccurate, so our question is why employ a product that isn't sufficient or useful? The young girl full of piss and vinegar on the line who informed us of this relayed the memo and then proceeded to hang up in her face. Bare in mind that they didn't inform anyone of the tracker's lack of accuracy until the 5th phone interaction. At current we still wait, family love and laughter is the only thing keeping the mood light because trust we are BIG MAD!!!! The drivers ETA is, who knows! at this point we don't even believe there is a driver. UPDATE: when the two pop-a-lock field representatives finally reached us well past 3AM they were both professional and apologetic. They also informed us that the address attached to my aunts name wasn't the one we were located at, in fact it was 20-25 minutes away in Walnut Creek. While we appreciated the professionalism, candor, and apologetic stance of the field workers, the office staff clearly appear to be experiencing issues with structure and flow, not to mention the total lack of regard for the customers plight and the unnecessary sass that no one desired nor required! My advice develop a manageable, properly functioning, and consistent system of customer service with people who can at the very least feign interest in their job or find a new business venture. All in all I'd NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO US POP-A-LOCK, nor would my mother or aunt. read more

Had a flat tire. Requested assistance to replace the tire with the spare. When the person left, there was grinding noise coming from the spare tire while I was driving. Come to find out the guy didn't tighten the spare tire causing damage to the bolts. I would not recommend using them to help if this is how they run their business. I asked for help instead this cause more problems. If I could I would give them zero stars. read more

Garbage. I was locked out of my place. Called them at 7:45pm. Price was reasonable and they confirmed that someone would arrive within an hour and half. Neat. 9:30 rolls around, nobody. Called again. Took them about 15 min to track down the request, another 10 min to find that the call wasn't dispatched. At no point did they alert me that nobody was coming. In the end I got a "if you need service in the morning we can send someone out." Cool cool, I'll just camp on my doorstep until the morning. All good. There are a lot of smaller 24hr locksmith services in SF. Called one after this company made me wait 2+ hrs and they came out in 20min. I've used this company before during the day, all good. Pop-a-Lock is fantastic!! My hubby and I lost a keyless entry/ignition remote to our 2012 Prius, so we had to share. It became so annoying to run around the house in the morning before work, looking for the key that someone couldn't remember it's placement from the previous night. Anyway, we gave in and finally contacted Pop-a-Lock. They were so accommodating! Peter called to schedule a time to meet us at our work in the FiDi during lunch. Unfortunately, an impromptu lunch meeting thwarted our plans. We quickly called Peter to find out that John from Pop-a-Lock was enroute. John was so KIND to meet us at the restaurant. (We all know that parking in downtown SF is a bear especially during lunch; I dislike being inconvenient to others!) He programmed the new remote in less than 10 minutes!! Who knew that the remote replacement would be so painless?! The best thing is that they were able to replace the key with another ORIGINAL Toyota remote - it is not a generic copy! This is awesome because it matches and works perfectly!! I wish that we would have contacted Pop-a-Lock sooner. I love the customer service, punctuality, and professionalism of John and Peter. I'm super glad that I found a new local locksmith. I will definitely use Pop-a-Lock's services again - other than the great service, the prices are unbeatable!! read more

horrible experience. My frustration all started yesterday morning when I first called Pop-A-Lock. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR I TOLD EVERY PERSON I SPOKE TO MY CAR WAS A PUSH TO START. First girl I spoke to was super sweet, gave me a price of $224 plus tax and then I brought up the fact I have AAA. She advised me to call AAA that way they can dispatch them out and they covered $60 dollars instead of me paying the full amount and waiting to be reimbursed by AAA. Call AAA they try going through 2 different companies who cannot do same day push to start keys. So I finally beg her (even though she explained that Pop-A-Lock was not coming up as an approved vendor) to call them because they said they would be able to do it same day. She calls and she talks to a different girl who says it's going to be $239 plus tax, AAA comes back on the line and we do a conference call on my request, 15 dollar difference is a 15 dollar difference. The girl rudely says no one in her office quoted that price. I very nicely say I wouldn't just pull a number out of the sky? and she goes "well I think you did pull that number out of the sky," OMG as frustrating as it already is to lose your keys, I have the dispatcher acting like a total a**HOLE. Ask for a supervisor. She gets on the call and is a sweetheart helps get me taken care of, says due to the communication error she would charge $239 flat, after my $60 discount $179 is what I would pay that day. Hey it was something, then says someone will be there within the hour. Fast forward 3 hours later, I get a phone call from the locks smith saying they can't do it today bc the shop is closed on Sunday bc it's a push to start key. SERIOUSLY?! But since there was not much I could do I agreed to wait. Today's ordeal...the locksmith was very flexible since I had work. I was sending him all my information via text(pic of drivers license, insurance, and reg) and he even offered to do the job then come to my job after to drop off the key. However he mentioned that they quoted me the wrong amount (pics provided of how UNPROFESSIONAL he was) seriously? You never bash your own company even if they did make a mistake. So he tells me it's 299, after the $60 deductible, $239 with tax $244.40 (picture also provided) even though I was unhappy, what could I do? I was almost there getting the key I so desperately needed, since the day before. I agreed and met him at around 1215. So he makes the key, we're talking back and forth. Then after he's done goes to take the payment and says $303 and some change. YOU CAN IMAGINE MY WTF MOMENT. So I ask him how to hell it got to $303 he then proceeds to tell me the key was $299 plus a $60 transportation fee. WAIT WHAT?! Why didn't anyone tell me about this transportation fee from the gate?! He starts being hella rude saying I'm trying to be cheap, that he sent me the prices and he doesn't understand what I don't get. I go back to the text that says total $244.40, and he's still arguing. I ask to speak to whoever is above him, and he goes im the manager pay the fee or I take the key. Seriously?! So whatever he calls someone (from dispatch probably his supervisor) and I only pay the $244.40 but the lack of professionalism and miscommunication is outrageous! This review is for the East Palo Alto -Menlo Park service area, with regard to auto service (car lockouts, jump starts), as referred by Subaru Roadside Assistance. They arrived 2.5hrs after my initial service call. My car needed a jump and I called Subaru Roadside Service at 11:13am. They connected me with Pop-A-Lock as the service provider, which sent me an ETA of 12:17. At 12:26am I called the Pop-A-Lock number because they still hadn't shown, and was told it would be another 20 minutes. At 1:03 they still had not shown, so I called again and their said it the driver was at Willow and would be there in 10minutes. At 1:14pm I called again, and this time they told me it would be another 15 minutes. At this point I'm pretty upset. I have been waiting at this point for 2hrs for roadside service. So, I tell them I'm upset and to please expedite me. The woman was rude and told me I could call and cancel my roadside service if I didn't want to use them. So, I called Subaru Roadside Service at 1:19pm, who checked with Pop-A-Lock themselves, and they were told 17minutes. The driver finally arrived within that window. I asked him when he had gotten my service call . He said only the last one, red, overdue, urgent. He said he thought maybe they gave the previous calls to someone else, but Pop-A-Lock said they only had one driver in the area. Andre', who was the driver who showed up, was himself very nice, so I give him one star. The office I called was not apologetic and was rude, so zero stars for them. read more

Because I had a positive experience with Pop-a-Lock 15 years ago, I called on them again to help me re-key my house. The experience was alarmingly poor. This is clearly not the same company it was in 2008. When I called to make an appointment, a friendly lady asked me a few basic questions, then assured me I'd hear back from a rep in a day or so. But that call didn't come so I had to call again to nudge them to follow up. After my second call, I received a text from "Locksmith Services" that a "locksmith pro" had accepted my job and would call shortly. A phone number was also provided. That locksmith, Uriel, did indeed call me and we scheduled the work. He texted me directly from his cell with his name, the day and time, and my address as confirmation. Here's where things got strange -- and even scary. As I met Uriel onsite, he mentioned he'd seen another locksmith van near the house, and asked if I'd called someone else to do the work. Nope, I said, just Pop-a-Lock. "Who?" he asked. That's when I noticed his van had a different company's name on it. Ok, I thought, so Pop-a-Lock must have subcontracted with this guy's company to do the work and not bothered to tell either them or me. Within minutes, I'd handed Uriel the two keys that he'd be replacing for 5 different locks around the house. He'd already dismantled the lock to the front door when I received a new text from "Locksmith Services" alerting me that Uriel was unable to complete the service, so they would match me with another "pro". This was followed by another text with a different locksmith's name who was now assigned to the job. (In hindsight, my guess is that was the other van Uriel saw outside when he approached my house.) Confused, I let Uriel know about this in case he needed to follow up, and I told him I'd be calling Pop-a-Lock to confirm that he was onsite and the service call was in-progress. "No need to call. This happens all the time. I'm working this job," he insisted. I started thinking, "What if this isn't actually my Pop-a-Lock appointment?" Uriel was nice and all, but as my front door was wide open and he worked inside his van across the street, I began to worry for my personal safety and security. It was very strange that he didn't even recognize Pop-a-Lock's name. So I did call Pop-a-Lock -- but since Uriel had insisted I not call, and because I was feeling a bit unsure about the whole situation, I tried to be discreet about it. Fast-forward at least 90 minutes, I'd made multiple calls to Pop-a-Lock. Easily the majority of that time was spent on hold listening to their obnoxious self-promoting jingle. I'd spoken with several reps who either couldn't find my service record, or could find it but couldn't verify that either Uriel or the company name on his van was assigned to my job. One rep insisted that Pop-a-Lock never subcontracts to other companies, and that the service van would always be orange and white with their logo on it. This, of course, threw fuel at my fear that Uriel wasn't legit. Another rep explained that the job *might* have been subcontracted, but since I was in a different state as the rep I was speaking with, it would be impossible for them to see the details of my job. (That person gave me a supposedly local number to call, but when no one answered it I was routed back to the corporate call center.) I requested multiple times, with increasing frustration, that they send an actual Pop-a-Lock locksmith to clear up the confusion they'd created, and resolve any issues with Uriel directly, but they were repeatedly unwilling to do so. Twice, from two different reps, I was advised "Ma'am, if I were you I'd hang up and call the police right now." All because Pop-a-Lock's systems don't talk to each other and their reps aren't trained properly on their subcontracting practices. At some point, someone from "Locksmith Services" called. Wait, who? Oh, those texts I'd receiving about "locksmith pros" being assigned and un-assigned to my job. They turned out to be the missing link that could explain Uriel was associated with the Pop-a-Lock assignment, even while neither Uriel nor Pop-a-Lock could. The rep from Locksmith Services explained they're a third party dispatch company that connects subcontractors to Pop-a-Lock jobs. In other words, Pop-a-Lock sub-SUB-contracts their work, and in the process Pop-a-Lock loses any record of who's working on what. Uriel did a fine job with my locks (see my glowing review of his company), and was professional throughout. I never shared with him that for much of the time during his visit, I was quietly scared and suspicious of him, and I'm glad he has no idea. Because, frankly, neither of us deserved to be placed in that situation. Imagine the wasted time and public resources if I'd actually called the police? STAY AWAY. read more

Last June, my battery died and Pop-A-Lock came to replace the battery. I was grateful that they came and replaced my battery and then took the old battery away. Fast forward a few months and my car battery kept dying. I had to get a jumpstart, the charge would last for a few days, and then I would have to get it jumped again. I finally had to take it into the shop to get checked out. Turns out my car had been running on the wrong kind of battery for several months and was not meant for my car. The carelessness of the installer cost me hundreds of dollars to get my car inspected, purchase to get a new battery, and now deal with the wear and tear of using the wrong battery for several months. I tried emailing and calling several times and never was able to speak with someone about this. I recommend finding a more reliable company to trust. read more

Unnecessary drama in my life this morning when I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment. Instant panic mode. Thank goodness I was able to find a friend/neighbor and immediately yelp locksmiths. A few pulled up and I first clicked on Premier Locksmith, but turns out they were about 1-2 hours backed up. Rang Pop-A-Lock next, and I couldn't have been happier. Dispatched a locksmith immediately, said it would be about 20 minutes, and quoted a price that was about half of Premier's! They sent John, who had the courtesy to call when he was about 10 minutes away, and was so professional, understanding, and resourceful when there was some difficulty (didn't realize how secure the my locks are) that required him having to wiggle a wire underneath my door to catch the door handle. Friendly, quick, efficient, great rates. Definitely recommended. read more

Just received the worst customer service experience from driver Michael V, who was dispatched from All State Insurance as a partner to assist a senior as they could not start their vehicle. This driver was clearly having a horrible start to the new year and was quite rude as he stated he was at the wrong address and was not willing to allow me the opportunity to provide him with the correct location as he over talked me at every turn. I find it unfortunate that he is dealing with people and lacks ALL professionalism. I hope his superiors are able to listen to the phone call entirely to observe his nature. read more

I waited for 3+ hours for roadside assistance through my car insurance provider in the geographical center of SF... the eta changed from 35 min to 30 to 35 for the duration of 3 hours. Luckily I was home so it wasn't the biggest inconvenience; my auto insurance customer service was extremely responsive and helpful but if I were not home and out on the street waiting for this long for a service coming from the same city... that would have been truly upsetting. I seldom write poor reviews but I'm sorry this was unacceptable. I understand that they may have been short staffed or busy or whatever, but please, provide your customers with an accurate and truthful ETA so they are not left alone waiting (until night time, I might add). read more

Wow!!! This service is incredible they text you with the exact location of the technician and ETA. This information continues to update in real time on a map, so you're never left wondering!! It's kind of like waiting for an Uber to arrive (with the realtime mapping), except this time it's a skilled technician that is going to save you from your lockout! The technician was so fast - literally got into our BMW in under 2 minutes (I was told our car was one of the hardest to break into!) - so all in all - it took 14 minutes for the technician to get to me and open my car on a Sunday evening at 10pm. You are not alone. I too have been locked out of my own bedroom, because ................. it happens. It was 10:00pm and I started calling all the 24-hour locksmiths I could look up with the help of my flatmate.. Talked to quite a few rude people, none of whom would quote an exact price. This is an example of one of the conversations (the rest were similar, really): Me: Hi. Sorry to disturb you so late, but I got locked out of my own bedroom, and was wo.. Him: We're open. Where are you located? Me: I'm in San Mateo, CA. Zip code: ... Him: I can be there in 20 minutes. Me: Oh, great! But wait, how much do you think it's going to cost? Him: I don't know, it could be $65, $85, $120, $150, $200, or more. Me: *gulps* It would be great to have a price of $65 or $85. Him: It depends but it is usually more. Me: What factors influence price? Him: We have to see. $35 for me to come, then how long and how hard to open door, we see and charge you. Me: Is there any way we can decide on a fixed price ahead of time? It's a normal wood interior door, and the doorknob is a Brinks.. Him: No. Doesn't matter. It can be more than $150 if you want fixed price. Me: Oh.. Him: *click* Me: (Thinking, "Oh that must've been an accident...") *redials* Him: Hello? Me: Hel.. Him: I cannot tell you price. If you want me to come, just tell me. *click* My flatmate finally calls me up as the boy and I were driving around trying to charge my Blackberry on the car charger and tells me to call 1-800-POP-A-LOCK. I do, and they're ultra-professional. They know where you're calling from, confirm your location as well as the location of the door you need unlocked, quotes you a fixed price (Mine was $98 - steep but way cheaper than the rest at 11pm - yay) and arrive in less than 30 minutes. And the guy was EXCELLENT. Very courteous, very focused. Our doorknob was impossible to open, and for the longest time he was attempting everything with all of his tools. Finally, about an hour later, we started thinking of other alternatives. Possibly we could find a ladder and we could climb up, into our balcony, and try going in that way? He didn't have a ladder, but while the boy and I were discussing the options, he climbed on top of his van and jumped onto our balcony and *rrrrrrriiiiiiiiipp* (the knee portion of his jeans tore) but VOILA! Our door was opened. I felt pretty bad about his jeans, though.. especially since my boy (who can be quite the ass at times) couldn't resist a big laugh. It seems, after carefully looking at our key - that ours have deep indents that make it very difficult to work your way around it. Side note: when we selected our particular doorknob, I did a little research to make sure it was one of the hardest to break into. Anyway, if you get locked out, call them. They're GREAT. They won't try to gip you with vague price quotes, and they'll do everything they can to open the door. read more

WOOOHOOO!! I called Pop-A-Lock 45 mins ago pissed off that I had locked both of the keys to my apartment in well... my apartment. The phone operator (a real person I might add) was awesome, told me that the driver would be by in about 30-45 mins but there because I was calling during rush hour that I might have to wait a little longer. Lucky for me I sat outside of my apartment as other renters walked past me, over me..etc. all stating.. " you know the building manager has keys to let you in".. yes yes.. I know. However he is out of town, after all we are running in to Labor Day Weekend. Hmph. Pop-A-lock showed up 30 mins later and only took a few minutes to get in. I wish I would have asked the lock magician what his name was because he was nice. Oh the best part. It only cost me $79. AWESOME!! $79 and an hour of my time.. you can't be that. Too bad you can't give 0 star reviews. Pop a lock has the worst customer service I have ever received. I lost my key and needed another one made, they said an hour but didn't get there for another hour and a half (not including the estimated time). Missed the wedding I was supposed to be at. I was quoted the wrong price, and then when the mechanic gets there he says they aren't taking card today and he should've told me earlier... So then i got a $5 surcharge Called customer service and basically was called a liar. Launched a complaint, still haven't heard from them 10 days later.... Never again read more

Second time we have used Pop-A-Lock and PETER is great!!! I believe he is out of South San Francisco, but has absolutely no problem coming to our place in San Francisco. He helped re-key our whole business! He did a great job understanding all the different level keys we wanted and the complexity that it was. We added a new door and the same day I called for him he came out and got the door keyed to the correct level we wanted! It was great and he is so patient!!! Called Pop-A-Lock around 10:30PM after we had gotten locked out of our apartment a few weeks ago. They almost didn't take us because neither of us had a cell phone on us. But after pleading, they said they would drive by but if we weren't out front, they were going to keep driving by. I can understand this, so I agreed. Their rate for the time was $125 and said they would be there in 30-45 minutes. This is where the star comes off, we were waiting at least an hour before the locksmith showed up, but I don't blame him. He had said he just gotten the called 30-minutes ago. I think the issue lies with their dispatcher with time. I apologize, but I believe our locksmith went by "J." He was so friendly and professional. Was honest about our lock and advised us to ask our landlord to switch it because it's upside down. He said most locksmiths would see it and automatically drill it and charge $500 for it. Glad we didn't have to go there! J got us into our apartment in about 15-minutes with determination. I guess it's good to be a locksmith if you like challenges because every job is like a puzzle! First off, I called 247 San Francisco Locksmith, made an appointment for 6:30pm for them to come out and make me a new key for my car and not only did they completely forget about my appointment, they also wanted to charge me $300 for their service. I called them and told them I didn't want to give them my business after waiting in the cold for an hour. I then called Pop-A-Lock because I noticed they had good reviews. They told me that evening hours cost a little more but if I was able to wait until the next morning they could give me a better deal. I was hesitant because I work during the day but they offered to pick me up from work and take me to my car. The next morning Issa picked me up and was extremely helpful. The service overall was friendly, quick, and efficient. I would definitely recommend this locksmith to anybody who needs one and will call them if I ever need assistance again! read more

I've been a Yelper for a few years now and only written a small handful of reviews. I just had to tell everyone about the absolutely awful experience I had with Pop A Lock. Last night at 2am I was locked out of my house and called Pop A Lock for a 24 hour locksmith. They said one would arrive after 20 minutes. no one came. I called back and they said the locksmith would be there in 30 minutes. No one came. I called several times and they kept telling me someone would be there. No one came and I stood out in the cold for 90 minutes. Finally they told me there were no locksmiths available and gave me a number for some other locksmith. I called that number and got no response either. Finally I gave up and got lucky that one of my friends was awake and let me stay with him. Word of advice: don't tell people someone is on the way if they aren't. Id rather have been told that 90 minutes earlier. I imagine that needing a 24 hour locksmith is a once in a blue moon thing, but you'd hope that they would actually be reliable since if I'm calling you at 2am it's probably a pretty damn serious situation. I hate writing this review. So, of course, I'm locked out of my residence. I call Pop-a-Lock first because it's the card down at the front-desk. They quote a fixed price but inform me that the locksmith is on his way to another job first so it might take 45 minutes or more (8pm or so on a Sunday). I say "OK" and begin waiting. At my door man's urging, I call one more company off Google (yeah, I know). The next company ("Expert Locksmith, Inc") says they can some over immediately and sort of quotes a lower price ("starting at..."). So I reluctantly cancel Pop-a-Lock. 1.5 hours and several phone calls later I find out that "Expert Locksmith" is basically a scam. So I call Pop-a-lock back expecting to be scolded at least mildly. But the dispatcher is empathetic and says he can send his guy out immediately. 20 minutes later the guy shows up and politely opens my door. read more

Monday: 2:55 PM: I realize I locked my keys in my car. My only spare was in the glove compartment (Yes, I'm a dumbass I know). 2:56 PM: After looking at Yelp, I decide to give Pop-A-Lock a call. I tell them my situation and my location. They provide me a quote over the phone. 3:12 PM: The locksmith is in the parking lot and gets my car open in a couple of minutes. The price is exactly what they quoted me over the phone. I would recommend Pop-A-Lock to anyone.They are legit! read more

Locksmith came in less than a hour and picked my lock in a minute. All for a ground total of $75. I spent a couple hours trying to pick the lock to my bedroom door. Failed. I decided to call a locksmith. This place had one of the better rates. When the locksmith came, I made him try picking my lock with my paper clip. He failed too, which made me feel good. Called Roadside Assistance and was told help would arrive at 6:45pm. Don Roberts arrived, jumped my battery, and had me on the road by 6:30pm. Fantastic service, friendly guy, and it was even his birthday... happy birthday again, fellow Capricorn! read more

Ahhhh-freaking-mazing. Locked myself out from my new apartment that has these "fake" victorian locks that just completely locks you out if you put the key in. I freaked out. It was only my second day in the apartment and I had been told a million times to not use that lock, I just wasn't paying attention. Pop-a-lock was SO easy. They arrived in about 20 minutes (around 9pm on a Wednesday night) to Laurel Heights and I was back into my apartment about 10 minutes after that. Really nice people and fast reliable service. Not sure if they're the cheapest- but I paid $125. So happy I called them! Would use them again in a heartbeat (but let's hope I don't have to). read more
