I needed all of the locks on my house to be re-keyed and called around to get prices and estimated times for service. One guy I spoke with, especially stood out in my mind as making a true mistake with following a calling to the service business. His phone impression was awful. Pop-A-Lock was reasonably priced and sent a technician named Fred, who was pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient with time. I'll call them again for future needs. read more

Worst customer service ever. The tumbler fell out of an exterior door door knob. A tech came and said he could fix it. Only a few hours later, we tried to get in the door and the tumbler fell out again. That cost us $85 plus we gave the tech a tip. We called and decided to replace the old door knob with one without a key - a door knob one would use on a closet door. The tech came back with a Kwik Set door knob that sells for less that $20.00 and charged us another $120.00 for work that took about 15 minutes. We have had no success in getting some kind of refund. We would never recommend this company. They don't guarantee work done on a customer provided product, so they don't guarantee their work at all. A broken lock would, by definition, mean it was owned by the customer. The man we talked to on the phone would not give us the name of the franchise owner. Again, not the way to run a business. So, essentially we've spent $200.00 for a knob set that can be purchased at Home Depot for $10.00. read more

I called to ask about replacing a lock. The dispatcher told me someone would call me back. After nearly five hours, I called back. The dispatcher checked and said the locksmith had decided to cancel the service call. No one told me. The locksmith never even called at all. The dispatcher told me if I wanted I could call back the next day. I found someone else. read more

Highly competent; a hard working locksmith with a pleasant personality. Minnie impressed and as far as I'm concerned, is the Best! I needed a very old door handle replaced. She drove to the local ACE store to buy the correct brand (Schlage), quickly installed the replacement door knob and rekeyed the lock to the existing house key. read more

We called the first locksmith that came up in Google (not pop a lock) and were still waiting two hours later. This was my first time ever being locked out of a vehicle. I called Pop-A-Lock and they were roughly 55$ compared to the other place which said 120$. They arrived roughly on time to what the Estimated time was. Also when the guy named Charlie came he was able to unlock the car in like 30 seconds to a minute. After waiting over an hour for the locksmith from Pop-A-Lock to unlock our storm door, we received a call that the locksmith was late because they had been pulled over en route to our house. When she eventually showed up (about 2 hours after the initial call to Pop-A-Lock, when we were told it would be 35 minutes AT MOST), not only did the lock smith smell heavily of marijuana, but she was unable to unlock our door! I specifically told the company that we had locked ourselves out from a storm door. After about 10 minutes of trying, she gave up, and left. I would highly recommend you use another locksmith in the Williamsburg area. read more

I read a poor review of a local locksmith but thought it might be a fluke. I prefer to use local service providers so I called.The man who answered was not interested in my business. The review was correct! I called P-A-L and specifically asked if it was a local business. The answer was yes, "I get asked that a lot". I left a message and it was returned shortly. The locksmith, Rick, is from Newport News (close enough), and the co. phone number is an answering service which can be anywhere. We set up an appointment for the next day and I was given an estimate for services. Rick called the next day to confirm the appointment and was actually early. He was professional, efficient and personable. The charges were more than reasonable. I highly recommend Rick and P-A-L. Forgot to mention I had 7 locks rekeyed & received new keys. I lost my one and only car key for a 1996 Chevy: no fobs or chips, just a key--but a single key for trunk, doors, and ignition. So I was in a jam: no spare key to copy, no way to start the car to get to dealership. I called a few other locksmiths and got either voice mail or was quoted a price I considered too high. Then I called Pop-A-Lock. It was a busy day; still, a real person answered and I didn't have to leave a voice mail. The price they quoted was less than the competition. The locksmith, Lee, was prompt and courteous to call back and confirm the house call appointment. Day of the appointment, he called again about 20 minutes before arriving. He was thorough and professional every step of the way. The entire operation took about 90 minutes, which isn't really that much when you consider it was a Sunday and a labor-intensive, highly detailed project for an old car. I thought they might charge above the original quoted price, since the work took over an hour (thinking per-hour labor charge) but no, the final price was exactly what they quoted. I got two working keys (so I now have a backup) with minimal waiting--most important, Lee the Locksmith was prompt, professional, and courteous. What more can anyone ask from a craftsman making a house call? I hope I don't have a similar lockout emergency in the future, but if I do, it's nice to know that professionals like Lee and Pop-A-Lock are out there to help. read more
