Full confession, I am not from the South. A co-worker told me about livermush, and not being one to pass up a new food opportunity, I Yelped the nearest restaurant with it on the menu. I still can't believe how wonderful my breakfast experience was! Pop's Cafe is unassuming and tucked away in a small strip mall in a neighborhood off a busy street. The exterior signage and lighting is so dim, I wasn't sure if they were open...but they were! Despite my nervousness over trying something new (especially with liver in the name), the waitress was immediately welcoming and comforting saying I could sit anywhere. She was very attentive and when I ordered grits, she asked if I wanted cheese with it and suggested getting in with a slice of American. The food came out quickly. I'd ordered the Porky's Platter and should've gotten the hint, it was enormous! The livermush was pretty good! It had a texture somewhere between spam and vienna sausage, but was fried crisp making it difficult to stop eating. The grits (with American cheese) were really yummy and the sausage biscuits were some of the best! I had to get a to-go box as the livermush was super rich and the servings were so large. This place is like the ones you only hear or read about in stories and I can't wait to go back if I am ever in the area again!

On our first visit we had their pork chops, she fried and I grilled, and they were delicious. Will definitely being heading back that way.

I got the Cuban flatbread, daughter artichoke spinach potstickers and my wife the salmon salad. Everybody loved it. Brandy was our server and was great. We eat out a lot and honestly the food at a lot of places has gotten worse over last few years... higher prices worse food. Kounter restored my faith back in the restaurant industry. They still care and it was a deal. Anytime we are near we will go out of our way yo stop back in. Want to go to dinner next time! Blaine

That kind of chef and it shows in the food. Fried Ribs ($14) appetizer is a decent sized, four rib, main course plate. These ribs are fried and are delicious with a mild BBQ sauce on them. Totally yummy. For a side I had a substantial bowl of collard greens ($6), done perfectly. Wife had the meat loaf ($15) which was two large hamburger-sized pieces, wrapped in bacon and with a delicious sauce. She did not share them with me. One of those pieces came home with us. Continual iced tea was served for $2. A bit of history is in the hallway of the Kounter building. Nine Black college students served nearly 30 days detention on a prison farm after staging a sit-in at this South Carolina Whites-only restaurant in 1961. On a visit to Kounter in December, I was told by a waiter it's not uncommon to see some of the Friendship 9 eating at the restaurant. Drop by to ogle the menu and take in the historical display. Very interesting and a good insight as to where black people were back then.

I am usually surprised at how easy it is to get a seat. It's a big space which helps but the food is so good. I always anticipate having to wait. Unless there is a sporting event next-door, I can usually find a place at the bar or get a table. If you sit at the bar, hope Mariah is there. She makes a good cocktail and she's incredibly sweet. Food is consistent and very good. Their smoked wings must be the best in town get the lemon pepper rub in the house made blue cheese dip. You won't regret it. The blackened chicken Caesar salad is also a huge hit. I highly recommend this place. Enjoy!

We were a little confused as to how to enter the restaurant, but I chalk that up to being tired. The space is wide open and airy, with large windows and skylights. The restaurant was nice and clean, save for something that was splashed on the wall in our booth - but it's a restaurant. There's going to be little picky things here and there and I'm sure it was wiped down by the end of the day! Our hostess was also our server and she was so knowledgeable about the menu. I took her suggestions at every turn and did not regret it. We started off with the Bang Bang Brussels Sprouts app and let me tell you - I could've eaten that as my entire meal. They are SO delicious and I'll be dreaming of them until I can return to Rock Hill. Holy cow, they were good - crispy on the outside, loaded with flavor and just enough spice to give the sweetness a little bite. So good. My husband had the country fried steak and he said it was very good. Not the best he's ever had, he said, but good enough. He wished there'd been more steak and less crust, but the flavor was right on. They were out of the salt and pepper flounder, so I changed my order to the ranch chicken. Ummmm....excuse me. Who says not to order chicken breasts at restaurants? The portion size is SO generous and the chicken is SO DELICIOUS that I, the girl who rarely bothers to take leftovers, boxed up what was left and brought it back to my hotel and ate it as a midnight snack. The grilled zucchini served on the side of it was delicious. If I ever get back, I'll ask if I can skip the potatoes in favor of more of that zucchini! We didn't really have room for dessert, but when we heard about the warm banana pudding, we were curious. DO NOT SKIP THIS DESSERT. If you're a banana pudding fan, this will blow your mind. Absolutely incredible! It's both warm and cool at the same time, caramelized bananas and a torched meringue topping were bowl-licking delicious. All in all, this was a fantastic experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and the customer service was top-notch. What really earned this 5-star review happened after my visit. While reconciling my account on 7/29/26, I noticed a $45 charge for an item I didn't order. I called and spoke with Tiffany, who was incredibly kind and assured me she would speak with the manager, Philip. When I called back the next day, Katie was already expecting my call and immediately connected me with Philip. He had all the details, sincerely apologized, refunded the $45 without hesitation, and even gave me his personal number in case the refund didn't post. That level of honesty, communication, and trust is rare. Thank you, Tiffany, Katie, and Philip, for turning a billing mistake into an example of exceptional customer service. If you're looking for amazing comfort food, friendly people, and a place that truly feels like home, Bear Walrus is it. It's Rock Hill's version of "Cheers." I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the Charlotte area! :::writing

Bartenders were really entertaining and I actually preferred it. We've had dinner there before and opted not to move to a table. Prime rib - Friday night special. AMAZING. 8 oz portion rare was juicy and so flavorful. Crust was peppery and delicious, perfect with savory heat from the horseradish cream. Mac and cheese was super creamy and just the right amount of pepper, made with shells, cheese pull galore. The collards were on point and packed with chunks of pork. The tri tip was sliced thin and stayed juicy but that chimichurri was the showstopper. It was fresh and spicy and totally made the dish! Beans were too smoky for me, hubby said they were good. Potato salad was solid but not sure any potato dish could top that Mac! Sparkling rose was just a teensy bit sweet, very refreshing and divine. Bartender said it's one of the best wines on their list. Hubby had Tito's and cranberry, also excellent. They have a good draft selection too. No oysters for us on this trip, but they did have a list and the raw bar was fully seated and enjoying them. We totally enjoyed oysters last time. Longer table down the middle would make it easy for large parties and they did have several large groups in as well. Overall it was a pretty energetic vibe with a fun but casual ambience. Dress it up if you like, but jeans are also okay. Games were on the three TVs at the bar, or maybe there were 4 TVs. Bartenders were fun to hang out with and provided all the menu recommendations and entertainment we could want.
