I might have visited 2 or vintage stores before but by far this is the best one I've walked into. It's two floors of cute vintage items including clothing. Prices here are a little more than the usual vintage but that's because they have so much value. I definitely recommend the visit if staying in hunter. Now ive done a bit of traveling and sometimes a place that looks great can be kinda gimmicky, so this was my fear with this location, BUT now that I have been I can promise Mystery Spot was easily my favorite part of our trip. The owner was there, she was funny and kind and very knowledgeable! Another highlight was a shock, the layout! it was so easy to walk through and get lost in each room, everything was organized and easy to look through. I can't say enough how much that helped, I hate feeling like a bull in a china shop so feeling comfortable walking around was a big factor for me. My partner and I purchased our first antique and have our eye on our next purchase here, giving us an excuse to come back to the beautiful little paradise that is Phoenicia. Thank you Mystery Spot! Behind the glass, faded photos of dead and forgotten strangers stared back at me like ghosts waiting for a train that's never coming. I was inside just the last week, they had lots of cool vintage stuff. ​On the porch sat a wooden crate full of old vinyl records labeled "YARD SALE IN A BOX. $1 AN ITEM." A Camelot soundtrack album was sticking out, warped slightly by the sun. Over head hung a red upside-down sign that read "MYSTERY SPOT," right next to cheap plastic slogans about Cypress Gardens and Clutter World. My big, lean hound stood on the porch planks, sniffing around the wood like he was trying to catch the scent of a better decade, or just trying to get inside. ​It's the kind of joint that hoards the cool junk of a thousand lives vintage clothes, oddities, records, etcetera. Its the kind of place where they don't care if you buy anything, or just browse and they probably don't care if you leave. My dog didn't bark, the door didn't open, and the sun just kept beating down on the boardwalk planks, so we just sat for a bit and split a sandwich.

Opening its doors a couple of years ago in what used to be a mechanic shop (of some kind I think), prices are "thrift"! Not far from the Woodstock line on Rt 212 in Saugerties, Ray's Retro has heaps of 50s, 60s, 70s vintage clothes, bags and jewelry, etc- plus you're guaranteed to find the perfect vintage piece with your name on it! My daughter says I like wearing "loud" things. While I don't disagree, I love adding just a piece that pops to my minimalist look and Rayann's met me there. From the Gong bell entrance to what's inside, every corner here has something for you...that's of course- if you're into this kinda thing. And in the words of one of my favorite artists, "I'm gonna pop some tags. Only got twenty dollars in my pocket. I'm, I'm, I'm hunting, lookin for a come-up- This is f*cking awesome".

What Maverick Road IS: this is the store of all stores. Whether you're looking to buy something for yourself or a gift for a friend or family member, this gift shop has you covered. From earrings to children's+adult items, home decor, games, quirky things and not so quirky things. Service was great from Tanya(o) who helped along the way with a smile. The items here are one-of-a-kind. I picked up a cassette tape-styled magazine/folder rack for hubs and earrings I couldn't pass up for me. Price for my two items was under $40 and thought it was great!

I think this is going to be my 'go to' store for when in am in need of a present or just feel like treating myself. They have a lot of very yummy local products, soaps, dishtowels, candles, silly gifts, too much to name. They also have good antiques which are going to be awesome as Christmas presents. I am going to go by on a regularly basis to see what new fun stuff they have so I don't have to rush in December when everyone is out there buying!! I thought I would share as this is definitely something we needed in Woodstock and I can't buy it all myself anyway :-).

And at this point,…read moreI've spent more time on the one and a half sentences then they spent acknowledging us or speaking to us during the 15 minutes in their store despite attempting to ask questions and despite making it clear we were looking to make a purchase. In fact, the person couldn't even be bothered to look up or get up. Lots of over priced stuff. But we were on a weekend get away and buying up art and items for our apartment in Manhattan. Fortunately other places were very happy to take our money and make a sale.

Some cute things, was considering some pillows and lucite cases, but across the room, as soon as my…read morefour-year old child, who was holding my husband's hand, rounded the curve to where the not-cordoned-off chair sets were, the employee jumped up from where he was just engrossed in whatever he was reading, and chased after him to loudly tell him to mind our "small child. Those chairs are very valuable!" It was quite off putting, especially because my husband was literally looking at her with no interest in the furniture, no food or drinks in her hands, not acting rambunctiously, just sitting on a, again, not-cordoned-off chair. No signs that say, "do not touch", "do not sit", or anything. I'm pretty sure if I sat there, it would've been fine and I'm 4 times her weight. After telling off my kid, he went back to ignoring us by the register, not looking up from whatever he was reading. I lost interest in the cases, accessories, and furniture. Dogs on leashes were in the store (no complaint from me; love me some doggoes) and no one was chasing after them to not touch the furniture. Whatever bad experiences they've had with other children is no excuse to embarrass my child or make her feel like she did anything wrong, and yes, the tone clearly made her feel that way despite us cooly, and quietly leaving.
