This was a tradition I felt obligated to carry on. Fast forward to me, barely knowing a thing about Dutch heritage, trying to find chocolate letters. Luckily, Peters popped up on a google search and they happily answered my email with advise as to when the letters go on sale. So, early November, I happily get to order my MIL's famous chocolate letters for the family. Very affordable and they ship (I'm in Ohio)! Shipping starts around $8 and it's usually pretty quick! We also love getting their catalog in the mail, full of yummy Dutch treats and merchandise! I really love and appreciate having a Dutch store in the states!

They have a large candy counter as well as tons of pre-packaged items that make perfect gifts. I chose some caramel corn (excellent) as well as a prepackaged box of assorted creams (also delicious). The ambiance is that of an old fashioned candy store, and it's full of wonderful smells! Definitely visit if you're in the area and have a sweet tooth!

I wanted a sweet treat after dinner at Ato Sushi recently, and I remembered loving the hot fudge at Kilwins, so that's where we ended up... again! Nate and I were greeted right away as we walked in and told that we could sample the ice cream. The employees were very kind and patient, as they have a lot of flavors to choose from, including several I'd never seen before. They make their own ice cream, which is fun since we have a lot of Hudsonville ice cream in this area (nothing wrong with that! It's just nice to see some different options sometimes). I got a single scoop of the berry pie flavor, which is vanilla ice cream with swirls of strawberry and blueberry, and pie crust pieces mixed in. Yum! I added the decadent hot fudge and was so happy. Nate got the praline pecan and really liked it. The total for our two cups was $15 with tip, so definitely pricey for ice cream, but worth it for a treat for me every once in a while.

She helped me with my order - unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a same day delivery due to their inclement weather, which I totally understood - so my order will be delivered the next day, which is fine. I'm definitely going to bookmark this location and will call again when I need to send a gift to my son's family for a special occasion. *I typically don't order flowers or plants because they have cats that will try to eat them. They have chocolates, bon bons, gelato, coffee drinks, and more. We ordered two of the cookie sandwiches, which we were told are made daily by a local pastry chef. The blueberry cookie was my favorite - it was soft and full of blueberries. The passionfruit one wasn't as flavorful. The buttercream frosting was super sweet, so we probably could have split one and been happy. I love that they have gelato flights! I didn't see any pricing posted for the treats when we visited, but the total was just over $10 for the two cookie sandwiches. They are handmade (vs. frozen and shipped in) so that makes sense. The employee helping us was super sweet and friendly, which I appreciated. The space is cute with ample seating to enjoy your treats, and they have an Instagrammable photo wall. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, so I don't see myself coming here too often, but it's a nice spot for a date or dessert.
