This a cool sweets and candy store in Grand Rapids. It is downtown and was only a few steps from my hotel. The staff were super friendly, and there's actually a large selection of items inside including made to order ice cream sandwiches. They have a large candy counter as well as tons of pre-packaged items that make perfect gifts. I chose some caramel corn (excellent) as well as a prepackaged box of assorted creams (also delicious). I went to update my review for Kilwins and realized that I went back almost exactly a year after posting my original review - and got the exact same thing. Ha! I wanted a sweet treat after dinner at Ato Sushi recently, and I remembered loving the hot fudge at Kilwins, so that's where we ended up... again! Nate and I were greeted right away as we walked in and told that we could sample the ice cream. The employees were very kind and patient, as they have a lot of flavors to choose from, including several I'd never seen before. They make their own ice cream, which is fun since we have a lot of Hudsonville ice cream in this area (nothing wrong with that! It's just nice to see some different options sometimes). I got a single scoop of the berry pie flavor, which is vanilla ice cream with swirls of strawberry and blueberry, and pie crust pieces mixed in. Yum! I added the decadent hot fudge and was so happy. Nate got the praline pecan and really liked it. The total for our two cups was $15 with tip, so definitely pricey for ice cream, but worth it for a treat for me every once in a while. read more

Was on my way into a coffee shop and saw this place right next to it so I had to take a detour! The smell when I opened the door....OMG YES!!!! It's an ice cream place but they have a bunch of specialty chocolate and other items. I would have gotten ice cream but 1. I needed coffee, and 2. It was WAY too expensive. So instead I treated myself to a small chocolate. I went for a peanut butter, white chocolate, crispy rice covered in dark chocolate candy. Was small and cost $1.99. Definitely not worth that price in size but I guess the flavor made up for that. The flavor of the dark chocolate on the outside was perfect; the peanut butter flavor on the inside wasn't overpowering and was delicious. Going there once was enough for me tho cause it's way too expensive. But if someone else wants to pay...... Only took off one star cause of the price. read more

Well, it's a chain, but has quality deserts. Kind of on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for because the quality is very high. My favorite is the fudge, and I prefer the awesome peanut butter, but they have many flavors. The ice cream flavors are equally delicious, and I have many favorites there, too. My boyfriend and I had Kilwins while in Florida and couldn't wait to try Kilwins again. When we found out there was a Kilwins in Grand Rapids we had to go! Last time I had chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and I had it again. By far the best ice cream I've ever had. Creamy and decadent. Huge chunks of chocolate chips and fresh cookie dough. It was about $6 for my dish of ice cream, about the same price as Coldstone. My boyfriend also picked out an assortment of truffles and chocolates. It's a specialty chocolate shop so all the truffles were about $31.99/LB. The chocolates are premium hand made so that's how you get the price. Quality is top notch. I would much rather get Kilwins chocolates for Valentines days rather than ghiradelli, just sayin. The hazelnut truffles are my favorite. Can't wait to go back again soon. read more

We have a Kilwins near me in Geneva, IL so I knew the second I saw the Kilwins sign in Grand Rapids that we were in for a treat. Kilwins serves the very best ice cream and they even hand-craft delicious chocolates and fudge. We stopped in for a delicious ice cream treat (I believe I had black cherry), but I love all the candies they make right in from of your eyes. They have seating indoors and on an outside patio when the weather's nice. Definitely stop in if you've got a sweet tooth! read more

Going in shop got my sweet tooth going. However our malts took forever to make and they didn't have mint chocolate chip . We saw a couple people walk in and realize how long just my orders were taking and left. Watch your step!! This is the note on the door & what you see immediately when you enter the store. They have a weird little step down, step up when you walk in the door. Kilwin's is great - yummy desserts that aren't cheap!!! The sea salt caramel fudge is a new one Ihaven't tried before, thought it was good. The turtles are yummy! Great location in the McKay Tower downtown, it lends a more touristy appeal to downtown which is nice. Hope it does well in this location!! read more

I will echo what Amy M. says -- watch your step! I almost broke my neck leaving because I was too focused on my ice cream. The staff has been very friendly the two or three times we've been in, and are nice about giving samples of the ice cream to help you decide what you want. The portions are big (a single is PLENTY) and they are nice about splitting a single into two different kinds of ice cream. The ice cream is delish, but not cheap for sure. read more

I ordered chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day on Monday and was told they would be ready for pick up as soon as they opened Friday. I went in 4 hours after opening and the order was not ready. They rushed to complete it. I gave the strawberries to my girlfriend and she noticed that the order was wrong (white chocolate instead of dark chocolate). She also noticed that 2 of the 6 strawberries were molded. Having ordered from the Big Rapids Kilwin's in the past and having excellent service there, I was extremely disappointed with this one. I will not be returning. Went in to get a treat for my wife, but they were all out of the caramel turtle apples. The cook on duty took a normal pecan covered apple and layered some chocolate on it, then asked me if my wife liked a little or a lot. When I answered a lot, he REALLY layered it on. Just stopped here and was astounded by how overpriced the ice cream was. $4 for a kids size and $6 for a single scoop! Prices were not listed anywhere either. Maybe they have to charge extra for being in a high rent area, but I think it would be appropriate to display prices so you don't get shocked at the register and feel trapped because you're already holding the goods. Was hanging out downtown. Decided on an ice cream cone. No sizes displayed. No prices displayed. I asked for smallest size with a waffle cone. $8.47. Wow.... I've cream was tasty but display that price if you're that proud of it. I then proceeded to watch the owner berate some people on the street for leaning on her fence. Which in her defense has been damaged by pokemon go players. But how about at $8 a cone be a business woman and capitalize on a crowd of people in front of your business.
