Poppy and Stella is a lovely store! They give me major Hampden boutique vibes, while being very conveniently located in Fells Point. I came once on a weekend over the summer and it was PACKED. However, I had no trouble getting help from one of the very helpful store associates. I came away with a slightly pricy, but very unique "Charm City" print (~$35) that brings me joy every time I look at it. I came another time for some holiday shopping in the middle of a weekday, and had the luxurious opportunity to take my time and browse through everything. The store associates were so helpful and helped me talk through the pros / cons of a few items I was looking at. Google Maps had the nearest shoe store to the conference in Fells Point -- a place called Poppy & Stella. Having found parking (not an easy feat in this area, which is a cobblestoned, historical district filled with charming shops and quaint restaurants), we headed in... and were greeted promptly by a helpful clerk who actually seemed interested in providing a customized shopping experience. Refreshing! I haven't found enough of that in Canada, and have missed it. I told her I was looking for a pair of black, tall, leather (not suede) boots, simple (without buckles & buttons & fur), no heels (I have wrecked my back to the extent that I've had to give away all of my high heels), and preferably feminine enough that they didn't make me look like a punk rocker (while I love punk rock, I can't really pull off the look in my 40s). In a women's size 11. Whew! Not demanding or anything... She came out with exactly the pair I wanted. They fit. Comfortably. And they were even affordable. I've been here quite a few times, and each time I'm pretty impressed with their clothing and shoe selection. The store is sectioned in two rooms, each are pretty big. They always have really nice items, that are reasonably priced for the boutique consumer. I love the fact that they also carry the knee boot for the ladies with the *ahem* sporty calf. The accessories are pretty dope from the scarves, to the jewelry and the bags. The staff are great, and are always really helpful. There is always one or three things that I feel that I must have. Super cute store in Fell's! I actually come here for their jewelry moreso than their shoes. I love that you can browse around to find cool pieces all around the store. The prices are decent and about average for a boutique. The only piece of constructive criticism I have is, I know that the shopkeepers have a prerogative to keep an eye on their merchandise. But it can be uncomfortable to be not-so-subtlely followed around the store. Maybe install a surveillance cam instead? The staff are very welcoming but the shadowing unnerves me. read more

This store is very cute and a lot of the employees are nice and understanding. However one particular employee, Lizzy, was very rude and dismissive. My grandmother came in that store to find some walking shoes so she could walk around the festival in fells point last weekend. My grandmother is old so she can't bend down easily so she asked Lizzy what were the sizes on the shoes and Lizzy says " the sizes are on the back". My grandmother really did not like that so she asked her to tell her the sizes again and she rolled her eyes but still turned the shoes over. My grandmother actually thought she was acting like that because she was racist but i assured her it was not case. Her feelings balanced out when we got the counter, the cashier was very sweet. They seem to be quite used to hearing moaning, gasping and squeals from browsers trying desperately to hold onto their pocketbooks and failing miserably. They have great quality merchandise and though their sales aren't like any of the "big box" stores in the mall, the price is comparable and they have a really unique selection. Super clean and eye catching store. The prices are a bit high - but the shoes were nice and were overall hard to find styles. I thought the merchandise was nice, but a little limited. They were sold out of my size in so many things. A size 7 1/2 is common - I am aware. But really EVERYTHING was sold out in my size. Regardless, that doesn't affect my review on the store. The customer service is just OK. If you don't look like you are in there to buy anything, you don't really get acknowledged. It wasn't until I asked someone until someone really helped me because apparently the other people in the store looked as if they were most likely to purchase over me. When you walk in there are clothes, scarves, shoes, and a few racks of clothing. The store has 2 different sections, both with similar items. The side you enter in has casual clothing and the other more fancy, glam items. The pricing varies...you have items that are $14 and some that are over $100....they usually have a sale or deal so your pockets won't break. It's definitely a place to go if you want one of a kind pieces, boutique chic. Take your time, look, try some things on and enjoy it. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Ever since this store has opened I've been a fan of the shoe selection. I have a real weak spot and so does my wallet for beautifully made shoes. You see, this store and I have been FB friends for a few years but I've never made a single purchase for a pair of shoes. But here's the main reason why...the return policy is tricky and anything that is final sale is truly final sale regardless if the shoes are discounted 50%+ or a measly 20% for a promotional sale. I had been eyeing a pair of Miz Mooz shoes for over a month and decided to go in since they were on sale. The shoes were just as great as I remember, but unfortunately I couldn't work a deal with the store, allowing me to buy them and wear them around the house for a day to see if they would be comfortable. Sadly I left feeling like I'd have to leave the shoes forever...but thankfully found the same exact ones 50% off retail online with free shipping and returns. This definitely does not mean I won't be shopping there in the future, but I will have to watch pricing a little better. They really do have one of the best shoe selections in the city and I can't wait to see their fall/winter boot collection! read more
