My husband has pulled me all over the state of Texas to try different barbecue places and this one, in my opinion, is by far the best. I had a rib wrap, which is just one rib and a piece of bread and it was the perfect amount and the meat was falling off the bone. So tasty. To be honest, I drove into Lexington to get some Snows barbecue, but didn't realize they were closed every day but Saturday. Ironically, this place isn't much better since it's only open Friday and Saturday. Needless to say, I got here at 2 o'clock on a Friday and it turns out if you get here that late they will be pretty much out of everything. So from 11 AM till 2 PM they've already run out of everything except a chopped beef sandwich and some fried wings. They also offered a fish sandwich, but why? As for the business itself, it is located in basically what can be considered a small garage with just 4 chairs to wait in for your order and three picnic tables outside. In other words, this place is just one step above a food truck and no public bathroom. Inside there will be a flatscreen playing an episode of either Bonanza, the rifleman or the Lone Ranger. In the background, you can hear the sound of numerous cattle mooing. My simple order still took about 20 minutes to make its way out despite only one other person in line. The tip screen will be waiting when you run your card while you either wait in the cramped cool room or sit outside waiting for your order. I have to admit the chopped beef sandwich was probably the best I've ever had as it was stuffed well beyond what the plain white bun was ever designed for. This sandwich alone took this from a three star to a four star review. To be honest, what I got was vey good, but the disappointment of little to nothing to choose from hardly made it worth the drive. If you're not the early bird, don't expect much. There's more to what's going on here than just great barbecue. while visiting my friend who recently bought a farm in Lexington, we decided to try Pop's barbecue in town. The first thing we noticed were the cows mooing when we got out of the car. My friend commented well it doesn't look too good for them. While it wasn't maybe a good day for some of those cows, it was a great day for barbecue and friendly service. This small restaurant only has outside seating at picnic benches. You order at a counter when you walk in the front door. We placed our order directly with Pops and immediately felt like we were visiting an old friend. We ordered a couple of barbecue sandwiches and a fully loaded one meat baked potato, which was the size of Texas. While we waited on the baked potato, pop treated us to a small sampling of ribs. That sample of course led to a 2 pound purchase to take home with us. We all loved the food, but we loved the people even more. I didn't get her name, but I believe it was Pop's wife that came out as we were leaving to give our newly widowed friend a big hug and prayer. Pop's was recommended to me by someone from Lexington. They told me it would give Snow's a run for its money and I have to agree (but I still love Miss Tootsie). It's just a different vibe with real good home-cooking. The day I went I barely made it before they closed, so of course, just about everything was sold out (which is always a good sign). I wanted to try the brisket baked potato, but since they didn't have any brisket left, they made me one with ribs. I'm not usually a rib gal, but Pop brought me one out to try while they were making my potato and won me over. It was fall off the bone tender, literally!! I basically just had to pick up the bone and the meat fell off. Then, the potato... He weighed it before giving it to me and it was 5 lbs. Two of us ate delicious, cheesy, buttery, baked potato with ribs for two days! Plus, I just have to say that I was so impressed with the cleanliness and overall cuteness of the little shop. I really can't wait to go back - I just wish they were open later and more days of the week. I want to try the banana pudding, too, next time. By the way, 'Ma and Pop' were just about the sweetest people I've ever met. I really wanted to be sure to leave a review because of that and they recommended on Facebook using his real name. He wrote it for me on one of his cards that I'd already lost by the time I got home. So I hope they see that I meant what I said and that I do plan to come back. Save some brisket for me! read more

2 1/2 years and it was worth the wait! The brisket and the sauce did not disappoint. My daughter and I shared one of Pop's massive baked potatoes with brisket and could only finish half of it. My son-in-law tried his first. He gave it a good try, but couldn't finish it. Due to my recent back surgery I couldn't accompany him to pick it up, but I'll be back next time I'm in Texas. read more

Drove down from Dallas for the best BBQ around...We got 2 slices of brisket. A 2 meat plate with sausage and brisket. A rib plate all sides Mac and cheese and potato salad and you can't forget the 2 of there special baked potato plates all the way 1 brisket and 1 pulled pork. There's no place better then Pops Licking And Smacking BBQ. I'd drive 3 hours again tomorrow because I will never think of BBQ without thinking of this place.
