Very pushy to get money. All payments made on time. Destin said the work was completed and payment in full was made. We found numerous items not completed and no response. Seems to be a trend to their work reading the reviews. Hard flooring has over spray from Paint all over them. All vents placed with no screws. A whole closet was not completed when it was discussed. All the promises of cleaning and making sure the whole house was completed were lies. He spun a nice sounding story but could not fulfill his promises. Stopped responding once payment was made and they moved on to a new project. The pushy at the beginning and the lack of follow through fully overshadowed the work they did. I met with Deston from Pop's Painting in April 2025, to give me an estimate on painting my entire house (inside). I asked him if he knew of any contractors that could do some repairs work inside and out. Deston said he also sub contract work out on his projects. I got the estimate a few weeks later with the agreement that the house would be completely finished by or around the Fourth of July. Because I was relocating out of state I had to rely on his word that the work was being completed. My son was flying back to Battle Creek every other week to check in Unfortunately the work wasn't being done but Deston kept asking for more money. The only thing that was completely was the floors. The painting wasn't completed in any room. We knew that nobody was working on the house because we were watching the security cameras. Deston stop answering our calls so we had the key taken out of the lock box. The day they return, and unable to get in the house he finally call we fired him. His crew broke our window in our garage. Also tore down our security cameras. I requested $9500.00 from the $30,000 we had already paid due to the fact that hardware and faucets were missing from the house. I came back to Battle Creek in late July the walls looked as if one coat of paint was done but it need a second coat for sure. our realtor and I did a walk through and took a lot of picture. read more

Pops Painting aka Destin Baker They did a horrible job. Paint was literally on every door frame, window frame, baseboards and ceiling beams. I was told they would come back and fix it, and I even got it in writing. Instead, I had to sue him, then I had to chase him for the judgement. It was over a year before I was finally paid in full. My advice is DO NOT PAY him until it's 100% how you want it. Even if he says he will come back, or even if you get it in writing, his word is no good. I have photos and all documents to prove what I am saying. FYI, He also owns Pitch-Black LLC, Asphalt Sealing and Repair. Buyer Beware!!! read more

Do NOT pay in full until they're 100% finished and have cleaned up their mess. When they get their final payment, they do not fully complete the job and no longer respond to phone calls or messages. read more

Besides the unprofessionalism at the end of the job, there were a few details not finished. Would have left a decent review but be careful. We ended up having to finish/fix a few details ourselves. read more
