I tried to use them once before and they are cost prohibitive, IMO. Last July, a merchant that I use weekly had his building struck by a car. The company came in sealed off the area that they were going to work on within a few weeks. It seems like. It is now January of the next year and they have done nothing since. Our finished walkout basement flooded and I had heard all of the insurance renovation nightmare stories. I was not optimistic about the time frame for restoration or the process for putting our nightmare behind us. Van Dam was on the job the same day as the flood, brought in huge dehumidifiers and a zillion fans and had the entire basement demolishened and dry in no time. After working out a quote for the insurance company and us agreeing to the scope of the work, everything moved very fast. I was in construction for 20 years, and I know how a well-run job works. I've also found that it's rare! Van Dam, their employees, and their contractors were amazing to work with! Shane and Darrien, their carpenters, and general go to people, were very professional and did expert work. Rob, my project manager was always prompt to respond and to get things done. We had about 800 square feet of finished basement and from the time they started to its completion, it was only about a month. The renovation included replacing drywall, removing and replacing a subfloor, painting, baseboard, removal and reinstallation of bathroom fixtures and cabinets, carpet and plank flooring, They moved the furniture and put it all back when they were done. All in all, I am very thankful for the work Van Dam did for us and I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends. read more

We had a roof and siding out in our home 5 years ago. Several times we had to call them back to repair/replace siding not installed correctly. Now, after the wind storms from 2 weeks ago, a pice of facia is loose. Contacted Van Dam and was told that due to high volume they cannot get to it. I should call a different company. NO LOYALTY on their part. Had approximately 30 thousand dollars worth of work done and they do NOT stand by their installers. NEVER again. Do not use this company for any work!! read more

We recently had water leak from the upstairs bathroom into the kitchen ceiling below. The water actually came through the ceiling light/fan fixture. Thankfully, we caught the leak just in time before it did any significant damage to plasterwork. Our concerns were possible mold growth and trying to save the celling fixture. We expressed these two concerns to the technicians who arrived that day. The techs installed a heater/dehumidifier in the upstairs bathroom and a fan blowing on the ceiling of the kitchen. This scenario played on for 4 days. The technicians came everyday to check the humidity levels. We thought that they would remove the ceiling fixture and dry it out, since that is where the water had been pouring through, but they did not. They informed us that they were taking moisture readings and there was nothing to fear. After they left it was actually a week before we needed to use the light/fan fixture. Being assured that every thing was good to go, we turned on the fixture. After about 10 minutes of working in the kitchen, under the light/fan, we began smelling something burning/shorting out and we could hear popping noises coming from the same area. You guessed it... there had been water sitting inside the fixture. Worried that there was a possible short/fire in the ceiling, my 67 year old husband (who had just had back surgery) climbed a ladder and took the fixture down. It is quite heavy and an involved piece to take apart. I called VDK to speak to someone but was told our salesman was on vacation, and they would have another salesman give us a call. We waited and waited.... the only call we ever received back was the receptionist asking for payment. The cost for heater/dehumidifier/fan rental, and technicians to come in daily (approximately 10 minutes each time) was over $1,200. This was just to basically dehumidify the area, and watch the humidity levels. Over a $1,200 bill from VDK, another $200 out of our pockets for a replacement ceiling light/fan, and another $200 (roughly) for an electrician to come in and install the new ceiling fixture. The $1,200 cost could be justifiable, IF they had actually done their jobs correctly. We feel that they should have taken the ceiling fixture down, since that was the area that the water was flowing through initially. We wrote a letter to VDK explaining how unhappy we are and how much more this small leak is going to cost us because of their failure to do the job correctly. They have chosen not to call us in an attempt to solve the issue, they cashed our check the day it arrived to their offices. We are definitely not people who write reviews, expecially poor ones. However, they have proven to us that customer satisfaction is not high on their list of priorities. If you are in our position, disabled, elderly and on a fixed income, this is not the restoration team that you are seeking. read more

I have had VD&K do two very large and multi-discipline projects; The 1st was a total kitchen ceiling, cabinets, granite counter/sink replacement - with associated follow-up painting and wood floor re-finishing. The 2nd was a kitchen floor tear-out and re-tiling as well as ceiling repair, mudding and painting. Both projects had the same Estimator and core crew. Very polite, detailed, hard workers that I'd trust in my house any time. Would and have recommended them for any work needed. Only reason I considered them originally is they totally renovated my Father-n-Law's house which caught fire from a lightening strike and they did an excellent job, including contracting out antique renovation as part of the claim read more

Terrible company for any type of building or renovation. Poor quality of work and the attention to detail was incredibly poor. Didn't finish the job to completion. Would not recommend. Haven't used them for fire restoration but I would hope you can't mess up something that's already destroyed. read more

Everyone was friendly. My contractor kept me informed throughout the process. The work done to roof, siding and windows is excellent.

I have to give them 1 star but really would not give any stars for this company as our experience was a nightmare. Horrendous communication, terrible craftsmanship and lack of professionalism. Many things had to be re-done, many craftsmen not equipped with the knowledge of what they were doing and had to be fired. Took forever to get anything done, utilized 1 person to do many jobs often, removed cabinetry that wasn't supposed to be removed, etc...the list goes on and on. read more

When we unexpectedly had a problem with water leaking from our A/C unit, we immediately called VanDam & Krusinga to come out during the emergency given the great reputation they have in the community. Given that I have a mold allergy, we were eager to get things cleaned up. And, even though it was very late at night, dispatch was friendly and we received 3 calls PRIOR to anyone even arriving on site just to update us on the status of their location and that they were on their way! It got even better when the techs arrived and they were women! Kailee and Krystol did a very through job and were kind, compassionate, and very communicative; coming back out daily to test the moisture status (even on a holiday weekend)! The owner of the company also took a special interest in ensuring the quality of the service. Given the quality of service we received, the diversity of their staff, and the level of communication that kept us constantly informed about what we should do, when techs would be out next, and what any prognosis was AMAZING! We will NEVER use anyone else but VanDam & Krusinga for anything related ever again! So glad to have such a quality, family-owned business that we know we can call any time and rely on! read more

We hired Van Dam and Kruisenga based off our insurance company's recommendation to fix a water leak that damaged our hardwood floors. Upon having the estimator from Vandam & Krusinga come to look at the damage, we were very impressed with the level of detail he went into to make us feel confident that every piece that needed to be fixed or be paid attention was addressed. Their estimate came in $1600 over the insurance company's quote, but was approved based on the level of detail that was provided. Everything at this point seemed to be going well. We made the appointment to have the work done and were confident that at this point we made the right decision when it came to a contractor. Unfortunately, as the process progressed, we found out that we were very wrong. After being out of our house for five days to have the work completed, we returned to find that the majority of the work that was included in the Van Dam quote that was over and above what the insurance company initially specified had not been completed. We addressed this with the original estimator that came out from Van Dam and were told that there were minimums in the software that had to be charged regardless of how much work was done. We asked for a revised itemized bill that we never received and were told that if we wanted to play this game they would reshuffle charges into different line items and the total would remain the same. We feel like that comment was unethical, unprofessional and inappropriate to say to a customer. We wanted to pay for the work that was done and would be happy to return the outstanding funds to State Farm where they would belong if that is what needed to be done. We were looking for transparency in this transaction and unfortunately felt like insurance fraud was committed. In addition to this, Van Dam and the floor refinisher came back to our house two other times to fix the floor. Once to smooth out edges that actually produced injury and the other time to refinish an area where a dolly that was used to move our refrigerator marred the finish. Their negligence in repair was not appreciated as we had a mobile toddler in our home. We also ended up getting a visit from Van Dam's General Manager who did absolutely nothing except come to our home and make sure that we knew that we had his attention. He offered to send us a gift card for dinner that wasn't necessary, but we never saw it either. All in all, I would never recommend this company to do any repairs in your home as they do not do the quality job that is promised and act in a most unprofessional manner. read more

Joel is an extremely detailed project manager and is available and communicates anytime I have a question or concern. Mike and Moses have done very professional and high quality work.
