This may not be the newest or fanciest daycare in the neighborhood, but it is always very clean, organized, and well run. The sick policy is also more flexible compared to chain daycares, where even minor symptoms can mean at least 24 hours at home. Surprisingly, during these two years my daughter has been sick fewer than five times. Both teachers, Nicole and Sandy, are absolutely fantastic. Sandy is incredibly caring and patient--she comforts the little ones by holding them, feeding them when needed, and soothing them to sleep during naps. Thanks to her, my daughter only cried for about 10 minutes on her very first morning, and after that she was happy to come every single day. Nicole is a wonderful educator--always energetic and engaging. My daughter has learned so much here, from Chinese and English colors, shapes, animals, and numbers, to singing many songs in both languages. When we went on preschool tours, one admissions officer even joked that she already knows enough to start kindergarten! Ally also goes above and beyond with communication. Each Sunday we receive the weekly lunch menu, and every day we get photos of meals and many snapshots of daily activities. Breakfast and dinner are also available if needed. At pickup time, parents receive a detailed daily report on paper, which we really appreciate. Overall, we couldn't recommend Ally's daycare more highly. Here are my favorite things about LSHD: Loving and supportive environment - Cecilia, Yuri, Mari and Ana love and care for our son as if he was part of their own family. I was sad and nervous to leave my baby when my maternity leave ended, and knowing he was in a loving environment that was as close to being loved on at home was one of the only consolations. The team provides our son with homemade, delicious meals that he eats each day, despite barely eating anything we make at home. When he was a baby, they diligently followed our feeding requests and warmed breast milk brought from home and worked on introducing solids. Our son is very spirited and at times has had challenges sharing, taking turns, shouting etc. and they have worked with him on these skills with the utmost patience and support for his individual development. Cleanliness - Cecilia's home is incredibly clean and filled with colorful, engaging toys. I don't want to jinx it, but our son has also avoided any major illnesses commonly picked up at daycare and has not been sick constantly which we were very afraid of when starting child care. He also comes home clean every day, but on the weekends we probably go through two -three outfits a day! Not sure how they do it. Knowledgable - As other reviewers have stated, Cecilia is so empathetic and encouraging for first time parents. She will work through any concerns you may have for your child while carefully listening and offering gentle advice and reassurance. The staff has had over a decade of experience with so many children so it is invaluable to hear their perspective on any concerns you may have. Play based learning - I was not someone who was looking for an academic environment for my very young child and instead valued a loving and caring space for him to play and naturally learn. Our son has exceeded all my expectations for what he could know before the age of two. He can count and say his colors in English and Spanish, has learned about days of the week and the calendar, and can recognize individual letters and the sounds they make. Reliable and open communication - I think in 1.5 years there has been one single day of unplanned closure due to a power outage. They share their vacation schedule well in advance so you can appropriately plan. They share photos and text updates that make my day while at work. I highly recommend Little Sunshine Daycare for anyone looking for a safe, reliable, loving, nurturing and clean home environment for your child. I remember my first day dropping her off and she cried for about two weeks before she was able to finally transition, and man, that was rough for a first time mom. But the school provides an app with updates via messages and pictures of their daily activities (arts and crafts, sharing day, circle time), which helped settle those nerves especially in the early days. Now, my daughter walks up herself to daycare and waves mommy goodbye. It's definitely a proud mommy moment to see her grow to be independent, while also giving her the gift of learning early in a school setting and making friends along the way. I also have to add - the teacher to children ratio here also makes me feel confident my daughter is getting the attention and care she needs from the teachers - and you can also tell the teachers truly care about the children at the school. The level of love, joy, and care that all of the caregivers provided was beyond outstanding. We had to relocate from the Bay Area and were incredibly sad to leave. Our daughter was well fed, felt deeply loved, and built so much confidence in their care. I never had to worry about what she was doing during the day because I knew she was in incredible hands. She even became a bilingual baby, speaking Spanish alongside English at home. Not to mention, I learned so much from them as a parent; from patience and gentle reinforcement techniques to learning how to style my daughter's hair in such beautiful ways. At her new school, our daughter kept saying the names of all her caregivers and friends, talking about how much she missed them for months. The transformation we have seen in him over these two years has just been remarkable. It all started in the junior preschool class. Ms. Martha, Ms. Gabi, and Ms. Shilpa really worked with him there, helping build his confidence, working on his social skills, getting him comfortable with arts and crafts. And you could tell, he genuinely loved being in that classroom with his teachers. Then there was Ms. Yesi and Ms. Celina, who just gave him this incredible personal attention. Something as small as greeting him at the door every morning, or giving him a little sticker, or Ms. Yesi just noticing the tiny little details about him, it really made a difference in how comfortable and happy he felt going to school every day. Ms. Alexa and Ms. Mai also stepped in around that time and helped engage the whole class so beautifully. Both of them just had such tender hearts when it came to nurturing these little kids. Then came the transition to the preschool classroom, and you know how transitions can be for toddlers, they can be really hard. But because he moved up together with his teachers and his friends, the whole thing felt so much smoother, for him and honestly for us as parents too. Beyond just academics, the teachers also worked with him on everyday life skills, like eating with a bib, little things like that, and it really helped him grow into a genuinely independent kid. Today, our son is a confident, independent three and a half year old, and we are just so proud of him and so grateful to the entire Tulip staff. The preschool classroom teachers, Ms. Ayushree, Ms. Pooja, Ms. Gabi, and Ms. Shilpa, have honestly done wonders keeping the classroom engaged. And anyone who has spent time with a room full of preschoolers knows that is not an easy job. But between arts and crafts, storytelling time, coloring sheets, worksheets, they have painstakingly worked with him and helped him become such an independent learner. We are especially grateful to Ms. Ayushree, who took the time to teach him our native language, and to the entire staff for giving him exposure to Spanish as well. We also want to say a big thank you to Ms. Lisa, who manages the kitchen. She actively engages with the kids too, and it really feels like she is nourishing their minds right along with their bodies. Beyond the classroom, the sports program made such a big impact on him too. The monthly sports activities were something he always looked forward to, always excited about, and he especially loved working with Coach Aaron. The dance class was another highlight for him, it really helped him connect with music and movement in a way we did not expect. Overall, our son has had a truly wonderful experience at Tulip, and we really hope the school continues to grow, so that many more families get to be enriched by it the way ours has been.
