We brought two bikes in for needed tune-ups. Peter and Karen were fantastic. They not only care about the quality of work they do, they care about your safety. I didn't realize that one of my bikes was adjusted improperly. They made sure to fix that. They definitely take pride in their work. If you care about your bike, its VERY IMPORTANT to ensure that whom-ever works on your bike knows what they're doing. I typically will screen a place before having work done. I can tell by walking in a place, or spot checking the mechanics... And I knew right away when coming here that this was the place for me. They're real nice people here. And they do excellent work at reasonable rates. Husband and wife bicycle repair team; they really are just the best. They are not only very knowledgeable, skillful and professional they are just super super nice too. I was on a road trip from Maine to Florida, some jerk rear ended my car and bent the crap out of my bike's tire. Not only were they able to fix my bike in 20 or 30 minutes,they gave me a really reasonable price and helped me meet the goals of the repair - it was an old bike not worth very much anymore, so it wasn't worth putting a lot of money into but it was the only bike I had with me on the trip! They were very friendly, as I said earlier, they even provided me with a few suggestions on points to see in the city as well as a free biker friendly map. I don't live here, but if I did these would definitely be the people I would go to. For anyone is traveling, lives in the area or just happen to like nice people, I highly recommend coming here. read more

Great shop in an old factory building downtown. Brought my older road bike in to repack the bearings and true the back wheel. Did a great job. You can just tell by the shop and the bike components throughout the shop that this is the real deal. If you want a shiny-polished-glitsy experience, go somewhere else. I bought a used bike, originally from the '70s. After some more research, the bike was much more expensive than other bikes of this type go for. I liked the bike at the time, and ended up dealing with the cost anticipating that I was paying for a whole, functional bicycle for myself. Shortly after the purchase, the pedals and gears were creaky, and the chains were skipping during gear shifts. The brakes were also a bit loose. I had to take it back for tune-ups. After getting it fine-tuned again, the same problems started to come back. The owner was very kind, and the bike is functional. I'd like to like this shop more, but I just don't feel that the product I purchased was worth the price. I would consider this shop again for minor repairs and tune-ups, but would not make another large purchase or go for important work. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday when we were here visiting and very excited about checking out all the awesome bike trails around Portland. My chain was acting "wonky" so we loaded up my bike and headed to Port City Bikes. They could not have been nicer. Checked out my bike, spent about 15 minutes with us,, and our neurotic dog... and eased my mind that the chain would last through our time here. My daughter's bike broke today while in Portland. I called around looking to find someone who could fix it on short notice. Gorham bike and ski told me that they were backed up several weeks but Port City bike was willing to help us out. They fixed the bike, put my daughter's artwork on and their Facebook page, and charged a reasonable rate. We still had time to bike the Back Cove! This could have been a ruined trip to Portland to go biking but Port City bike saved the day! read more

Excellent. They did a great job servicing my bike. I needed a variety of things done including truing of wheels & packing of bearings, f&r derailleur adjustment, cable replacement & new tires. No high-pressure sales, no more-bikeworthy-than-thou attitude. My crank was fixed and I was riding again the same afternoon. His work was detailed, quick, informative and at an entirely fair price. I'm convinced Peter found me the best and least expensive way to get my bike back on the road. I needed to have my bicycle checked-out in advance of taking it with me on vacation. It had not been serviced in 10 years. I called Port City Bikes upon recommendation of a friend. They were friendly and helpful on the phone, and explained that, due to their volume of repairs, I should bring it in sooner vs. later. I went there on a Saturday late afternoon just prior to them closing. The Technician was friendly and helpful. He did a quick once-over on my bicycle, explained what he thought would be needed to get it up to par, gave me a cost estimate, and suggested I come back by end of week, but that I should call first. Within a few days, the Technician had left me a phone message that my bike was ready. I called him back. He couldn't remember who I was- he could only identify me through a description of my bicycle. I went down a couple of days later, just prior to Memorial Day weekend. My bike was ready, having received a tune-up of air in tires, gears checked, brakes evaluated, night lite battery replaced, reflectors added to tires and back of seat, and parcel rack attached over the rear tire. The cost was a reasonable $85.00, and the ride is improved over what it was. I was very happy with the service i received there. The technician was friendly yet professional, and the price was right. These are cool guys who work in this laid-back type of shop. And they explained everything to me. My only criticism is that the Technician could not remember my name, or who I was, until I described the bicycle- and then he only remembered my bike, not me. Perhaps I am just not so memorable. Perhaps it simply has to do with the volume of customers they have coming through there. Please note that I have referred to him at "the Technician" throughout this review, because, honestly... I couldn't remember his name either. read more

These guys are the best! When we arrived to drop off our bikes for a tune-up, they came out and helped us unload them from the car. They looked over the bikes, gave us the recommendations for repairs. They delivered what they said they would, for the price they said, and they did it on time (actually sooner than expected)! They did not try to sell us things we didn't want. Our bikes are now in great shape, and we're on the road again. Nice people too! read more
