Just like half the country, I picked up cycling as a hobby during the pandemic. I bought myself a cheap used bike to try out this new sport and surprisingly fell in love with it throughout this last year. Fast-forward to 2021, and I was now ready to upgrade my bike. After reading reviews for local bike stores, I opted to visit Allspeed first. I went in just to check out what they had in stock, and little did I know they would help me find the most perfect bike at their shop. As soon as I walked in, I was met by the kindest staff. They asked me about my cycling goals, experience, budget, etc. They showed me a few bikes that met my needs and allowed me to test them out for a bit on the Bayside Trail, which is adjacent to their store. For me, it was love at first sight. I truly fell in love with one of their Fuji bikes I tested, and the rest is just history. I bought it on the spot and they even held it for me for a few days since I didn't have my bike rack with me that day. The whole experience was phenomenal - as a newbie to cycling, I was initially a bit intimidated about the whole purchasing-a-bike experience, but Allspeed made the process beyond amazing. A few days later, on my second ride, I got a flat tire. I took the bike back to Allspeed and within minutes they fixed it. They also noted that the tire was low in pressure, and acknowledged they should've double checked the pressure before selling me the bike. Because of that, they didn't charge me for the flat. So, my bike has been victim of neglect and some abuse. It's a 15 year old Cannondale hybrid. Not sure if they would be open and they are and full operations. Awesome. I called to get directions on how to drop off the bike. Parked and placed my bike on the rack. Shared my thoughts on what needed to be repaired and asked them to make an assessment and let me know via phone. They offered a text message system and sent me an estimate on what needed to happen to my bikes. I figured because of COVID-19, there would be a delay. You can imagine my surprise when it was complete in less than a week. They called to let me know. I paid earlier this morning for it and came back to pick it up. So easy The staff is awesome. They stole my skis! Had these guys sell my telemark skis on consignment. Dropped my skis off, signed the paperwork, and then never heard anything from them. I called them at the end of the season as i was looking to see if they had sold. They said that I hadn't been in contact with them and that, per their store policy, my skis were no longer available for pick up. I never received an email, a phone call, nothing, saying that my skis didn't sell and that I should come and pick them up. I have had bad customer service before. But never have I had a company or a business blatantly steal my property and then shrug their shoulders about the whole thing. If you like being ripped off and having your property stolen by all means, do business with these guys. read more

Great customer service. I tried skiing for the first time this past season and decided to buy my own gear after renting a few times. It was near the end of the season, so most things were marked down 30-40%, which was great. I came in as a total newbie and the staff was very attentive and helpful, especially when it came to getting fitted for my boots. The person helping me was very thorough in assessing how a few different pairs fit so I could see and feel the difference. I didn't feel like they were trying to upsell me on everything, they were just trying to find the best fit for me and my skill level. The staff is super friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and will work tirelessly (no pun intended) to diagnose and repair issues with your bike. I've been in countless times and each time I'm greeted with a smile and quick attention. Recently, my bike had been making a noise that four other shops couldn't diagnose. Well, they misdiagnosed it and charged for a repair that was not needed. I took my bike to the guys at allspeed and they not only found the problem, they fixed it quickly! I would not rent from here. They do not have their business together. Their website didn't work to book for Oct 2018, only 2019. I called 3 different shops before deciding on theirs because they quoted me a lower price for a half day rate (2 hours)...but they upped it when I arrived at the store. Front staff were NOT helpful...she questioned if we really called ahead, doubted we spoke to someone there, operated with a "customer is always wrong" attitude, promised to show us a cycle map (never did), and tried to convince us it was going to rain (clear skies). If I'd only known that $70 was all that stood between me and light speed. These guys were really good to me despite the fact that I missed my appointment--Kay (spelling?) squeezed me in the next day and they did a great job on my bike. After our initial diagnostic conversation the cost was actually less than I anticipated for a tune, repair, and new front brake, and they were able to fix my wheel instead of replacing it. They were patient, nice, didn't gouge me, and I am amazed at the performance of my machine (never going that long between tunes again). Couldn't speak more highly of my experience. read more

I ordered my GT Grade Alloy 105 58 cm from these guys and they assembled, tested and shipped my bike for free in less than 24 hours. First, I was stoked just to find a retailer who had a GT Grade 105 in stock, since all of the other retailers I found had it on backorder for months at a time due to the new model's popularity and solid road tests. Second, I was very satisfied with the fact that the owner and the technician who took my call both called me back personally with status updates on the order, and then again to tell me how much they appreciated my business. Finally, its a great product, and from what I can tell they only carry stuff that they personally recommend, which is a pretty great way to do business. AllSpeed Cyclery is quite simply an excellent bike shop! I brought in my 37 year old Motobecane Super Mirage touring bike for a tune up and new chain and it came back as good as new. Plus the bike tech cleaned and shined it from top to bottom. I love my beautiful bike and it now rides and looks great again. I rented a mountain bike to go riding with some buddies while I was in town. I haven't ridden in many, many years. The guys at the shop set up the bike for me and made sure I knew how everything worked. (Last time I rode, they had just invented front suspension. This bike had full suspension and a push button seat adjustment. I definitely appreciated the tutorial! Lol). The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The best part came when I returned the bike. I decided to go for another ride in the morning so didn't get the bike back within my 24 hour window. I told the guy behind the counter I was late so I would need to pay him for an extra day. At this point I was about 6 hours past my 24 hour window. He checked the bike in, asked how I liked it, where I rode, etc. and made sure it was all still in good condition and then told me don't worry about the extra day. The staff was friendly, the bike was awesome and the customer service was excellent. I will definitely be back for the next rental and when I'm ready to buy a bike of my own. read more

Super-nice folks. Went with my son and wife. I was looking for a new MTB, my wife was looking for a good lock, and my son needed a new helmet. We split up, and got service from multiple staff. We found everybody to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Their bike selection is impressive (they have a 3 story wall of bikes). What impressed me most was the range of selection. They had affordable bikes with entry-level components, and high-end bikes with features I'd never even seen before. I was looking for something on the less expensive end, but they were still very helpful and didn't try to pressure me to buy something I didn't want/need. They also have a great spot for test rides. The Bayside trail runs right behind the shop, and they've added a gravel trail through the grass next to it, so you can ride on or off road. read more

I live in NH and have been looking for a shop with a good selection and experience with telemark skiing after my local store got out of tele altogether. I checked out their site and ended up ordering a new binding online from Allspeed after talking with them on the phone about it. These guys definitely know their stuff. When the binding came in i brought my skis up to be mounted. Since I lived a couple of hours away, I asked them if they could do it the same day so I wouldn't have to make two trips. They said no problem and hooked me up in less than an hour. Lo and behold a few weeks later I broke a ski. I needed to replace the skis and swap those new bindings over to new skis. I called on a Sunday and asked if they could help me out that day since it was the only day I could get there. They said absolutely and offered to make the switch while I waited, I ended up buying a new pair of skis from Allspeed and they swapped my bindings over right away. They also gave me a great deal on the skis and re-mount! During the swap, they noticed that my new bindings were broken. They didn't have the extra parts in stock. Instead of telling me they had to order some and sending me home to wait, they took the parts from a new binding, fixed mine and made sure I was good to go. I can't say enough about a shop that goes the extra length to help a customer out of a bind. These guys are awesome! They know their stuff and can speak from experience when you ask them questions about gear because they use it. Everyone I've worked with at Allspeed either on the phone or in-person has been great. I will absolutely be getting all my tele gear from Allspeed from now on. I only wish i lived a little closer, but they are definitely worth the trip to Portland! read more

After 5 years of no flats, (I know, right?) I had a problem. This is the second shop I took my rim to, but the only one I will be going to from now on. I have been riding a long time. I know bikes and rims etc, yet I was baffled as to why I kept getting flats at the stem. First shop supposedly fixed it, twice. I paid each time. SO I changed shops. This one fixed it, so I thought. Got a flat in 1/2 mile. Took it back to have them look it over again. I was met with a joyful smile as I walked in carrying my rear rim. The guy was positive, and confident. They repaired the rim on the spot, did not charge me again for their second attempt, and I have been riding happily ever sense. Having the owner present is the key to success in business. Mike was freaking awesome! Friendly and genuinely concerned that they got it right and i was happy. I am so glad I found this shop! read more

Portland is lucky to have Allspeed. They carry top notch brands, they use & can personally recommend the inventory, and they are all super nice. They are the premier mountain bike shop in town, and also carry hybrid, cross, road, and kids bikes. They will also custom order. I can't think of another local shop who caters as well as they do to those of us who enjoy mountain biking, backcountry skiing, tele skiing, or just enjoying life outdoors. They also have fantastic sales if you're looking for a deal. The service team is great, and will get you back on your bike/skis ASAP should something go wrong. Last summer I snapped my derailleur on my MTB at about 5pm on a Friday, and by 11AM the next morning I had a new one installed and was riding again.
