Great convenience immediately opposite the ferry to NYC. I'm a big fan of the revival of the Weehawken waterfront

Haha all joking…read moreaside, like several other reviewers have mentioned, the art in this station is whimsical and humorous. A nice break from the bleak dirtiness that is so many stations in the city. Not to say this station isn't also dirty, because dirty it is. The rating is just partially offset by the fun sculptures that can momentarily distract you from the rest of it. Come here to catch the A/C/E blue lines, or transfer to the 1 or L too. Last I saw, they haven't implemented the strange staggered metal banisters along the edges of the platform here that the MTA has started placing up in other stations.

That being said, it's always been a challenge to know before going down to the track when is the next L train and if it would be faster to take a 14th St. crosstown bus! Putting that aside, you'll notice all over the place, like around the A/C/E platforms and between the mezzanine and L tracks, the humorous assorted metal sculptures from 2001 of Brooklyn-based artist Tom Otterness in a work he calls "Life Underground." These fun, little characters face many predicaments, such as being pulled into a sewer manhole by an alligator, like the urban legend, or holding a bag of money sitting next to you on a bench while waiting for a train. (Note - The rich and bags of money seem to be a theme of many situations set up, so you'll find room to interpret the meaning.) A couple elements have or are becoming obsolete - the subway token and the penny! Many characters are repeated, giving passengers in different directions the ability to equally enjoy them. Plus, you'll notice several character groups appear in completely unique settings, like the two-person saw, to give rise to another smile for the passerby. Other public spaces around town have similar Otterness works, (like Battery Park and around Roosevelt Island,) but he really played with the station's space to make sure one way or another you'll end up with a smile on your face! Check them all out!

It's such a convenient way to travel back and forth from NYC to NJ. It's easy to navigate (even for those who are new to public transportation) and budget-friendly. It also connects you to Jersey City and Newark Penn Station. If you're driving to the terminal, parking can be a bit of a hassle. You can be lucky enough to find street parking, but be aware of the meters and the residential-only permits. The other option is to park in one of the garages nearby. You can purchase a ticket or MetroCard at any of the self-service vending machines near the entrance. A one-way adult ticket is $3. They accept bills and credit cards. They even have a Tap-And-Go fare payment system at the turnstiles, which is quick and convenient! Once you get through the gates, you'll see signage to guide you to the proper tracks. The PATH operates 24/7, but you have to be mindful of the schedules. The lines operate differently on the weekdays and weekends. In addition, some lines do not operate after 11pm on weekdays. I suggest downloading the PATH app. You can get familiar with the schedules, receive alerts, and get real-time train information. Currently, there are two lines that will get you directly from Hoboken to Manhattan. One line runs through Newport, Exchange Place, and the World Trade Center and another line runs through Christopher St, 9th St, 14th St, 23rd St, and 33rd St. Depending on the day and time, you might have to get off at other stops and then hop on a different connecting line to get to your destination. It all makes sense after you get the hang of it. The trains are typically clean and arrive/leave on time. It's about a 10-15 minute ride into the city. Of course the trains can get crowded (we all know how congested NYC and North Jersey are...). But for a $3 ride into NYC, I'll hold my breath and prepare to get packed like a sardine in a can.

After some recent construction, it's a lot brighter down there, though it does smell pretty eggy at times... I do appreciate that it's tap to pay so I don't have to fumble for a metro card anymore.

It's a big station so it can be a bit daunting at first but you have signs and proper directions to get you where you need to go. I'd suggest for first-timers to arrive early and take your time. You don't want to rush through here.

It was freezing, or maybe it was warm, maybe it was my cold, but it felt cold as hell anyway because who the hell wants to be awake when the sun isn't even trying yet? So I walk all the way over to Lexington Ave and 42nd Street which is a hell of a walk when you're half asleep and your feet feel like two sacks of wet sand, just to get to Grand Central and catch the 6:18 AM train to Scarsdale. I have this part-time paralegal job up there. It depresses the hell out of me, strictly speaking, but a person's got to keep a job or people start looking at you like you're a total crook or crackhead or something. Grand Central at six in the morning is actually pretty grand, if you want to know the truth. It really is. It's not full of all these phony tourists snapping pictures of every single thing like they've never seen a ceiling before. The main concourse is just vast and quiet, with that big greenish ceiling with all the stars painted on it, even though the stars are drawn totally backward, which is just like people, if you think about it. Nobody even notices. There's that big clock right in the middle sitting on top of the information booth. It just sits there, looking very old and very expensive and not giving a damn about anybody's problems. I stood there for a second looking up at it, and for a minute it almost made me feel less miserable about going all the way to Scarsdale to look at legal briefs or whatever the hell I was going to do. The guys working the tracks at that hour don't yell at you, which is a nice change. You just walk down the ramp to your track, get on the Metro-North, and sit by the window. It's almost nice, except you know as soon as the train starts moving that you're actually on your way to work, which ruins the whole thing. If you have to go to work at six in the morning, Grand Central is about the only place in New York that doesn't make you feel like a complete loser for doing it. I mean it. It really doesn't.

The garage has a some cameras but has no visible security patrol. It is poorly lit in many places. The North and South garage are managed by the same company, Little Man, and they a lot of garages in the NYC area. We used the North. The unattended garages have no dedicated security patrol. We observed what seems like a playground for mischief on the day we found the damage -- groups of kids on bicycles, and even motorcycles (without license plates) cruising around the garage. Some seemed to check out the place and park for free. Cars also were observed to be speeding around the garage. Our weekend calls to both the ferry company and Littleman parking office were not staffed, so there was no way to easily reach anyone in an emergency. Just voicemail. We reached the office manager on Monday 9/23/24 who said no liability (read contract) and she will review tapes. We also called the supervisor (Carlos, 201-217-1683) to talk about our observations and concerns -- and the damage to the car. We left a message for Carlos with our number for him to call back about the damage. Days went by and we didn't get a call back. So we called the main NJ office again a week later (9/30/24). We spoke to the person who answered and told him we didn't hear back. He said he would contact Carlos and have him call us. Again no reply from the supposed, "supervisor" Carlos or anyone. It's been two weeks since we tried to reach him. There has also been no word about the result of the office review of the tapes by the garage salesperson who works Monday - Friday. She did offer to let us go through the tapes ourself. But that is not easy mid week and they should be doing it and reporting back. Again it's been several weeks and nothing. No word. No supervisor. The car itself was parked in clear view of a camera, although the date of the vandalism is not known since the garage never even observed the damage before we contacted them. The damage was only observed by us when attempting to retrieve the car. It seems they take no responsibility and don't even want to discuss our security concerns. This is very disappointing and very lacking in security and seriousness. The garage is dimly lit and feels neglected. The lack of concern by Little Man is very noteworthy. Of course they should take responsibility for the issues at the garage. But they have not demonstrated responsible behavior or addressed the seriousness of the issue, which seems systemic.
