The Halifax port is a fine example of Canadian awesomeness. In some countries *cough*, the design focus is on herding people like sheep and march, march, march. In Halifax, the design is so much more humane! Need to fix your shoe? Here's a bench! You may have more than three people in your group? Here's a pallet designed bench with four sides and ample room. Make a friend and let another group sit with you! Or avoid making friends and just sit, because they're so big no one can really object if you do. You mean you don't want to just walk and walk? The cruise port has your back, because in addition to benches there are cute little shops and a few eateries! If you have no plans getting off the ship, you will soon. There's also a nice vendor area right at the ships exit so you can buy Canadian treasures, including Amos Pewter and books.

I found my way to the Port of Halifax through a Canadian Coast cruise through Disney Cruise Line. The visit to this port and Halifax in general was on Thursday, October 26, 2017. As we were making our way into the Port of Halifax, it was a beautiful morning and the sunrise was amazing. There is a small island near the port called Georges Island and also has the Georges Island Lighthouse. From a viewing standpoint, this was the busiest and most city-like as a port during my cruise. As with all of our other ports for this sailing, temperatures were well above normal. The high temperature was 67 with a low of 59. The average temperatures that time of year are 52 degrees for a high and 39 degrees for the low. Of the Canadian ports that I went to on this cruise, this port was definitely the busiest, as the other two ports were more rural, but filled with beauty. This wasn't a surprise since the populations of the two other ports were 25,000 to 39,000 residents, while it's over 400,000 residents in the capital (Halifax). After we docked into port, they had four flags flying: Canadian Flag, US Flag, Nova Scotia Flag, and Port of Halifax Flag. They were flying above the building at the cruise terminal. One building that isn't hard to miss is the Pier 21 building. You would think that it would be a shop, but it's actually a Canadian Immigration museum. As with all cruise ports I have been to, there are plenty of shops inside the cruise pavilion that feature items marking the location where we were at. Due to the timing of the excursion, I wasn't able to do too much inside here until after the excursion. Fast forward eight hours when the excursion ended and we were back at the port. I had about 20 minutes to explore the shops inside the port. There were many options to choose from, and many of the shops were offering deep discounts on items as well, since we were one of the last cruise ships to visit the port for the season. I ended up getting a few shirts and a few small trinkets here before heading back to the ship. Overall, this was a nice port to visit. This area was more commercialized than the other two ports we visited in Canada (Charlottetown, PEI and Sydney, NS). Don't let that fool you. There is plenty to do here and thoroughly enjoyed the excursion to Peggy's Cove, which I'll detail in a separate review. If you've ever thought about visiting Canada, or even Halifax specifically, this place is worth the trip. There is plenty to do for many days on end. You won't be disappointed if you visit this area, regardless of the time of year.
