This might sound like an odd take since it's quite normal in Ontario, but being from BC originally, I can tell you that it was quite surprising (for here, and all other paid conservation parks). It's frustrating that the nicest park in the city - by far, which also has it's only natural lake, is gated and requires an entrance fee. I'll still give it 5 stars since it's part of a norm for the entire province, so I can't really hold that against it. I'll also have to admit that having a fee has perks which become apparent - namely: much cleaner, high staffing ratio (which helps cleanliness), no overcrowding, well maintained and even the configuration. It's similar to hating the cost of the 407 but having to admit you also love being able to cross the GTA in half the time. Heart Lake itself is a nice lake, and as mentioned the only natural lake in Brampton and probably one of the largest for quite some distance around it. Even without having visited, you may have seen it without realizing it since it was used in the movie Tommy Boy years ago (when Chris Farley is sailing and being taunted by kids). There is fishing, various types of boating, which now also includes boating at night with clear boasts that have bright neon lights around them. There are trails to walk along it too, but sadly not to go around it since city planners in their infinite wisdom years ago allowed a handful of houses to back onto the lake. There's also a some cross country trails in the wooded area for that type of running and cycling. The treetop trekking here is fantastic, but a completely different fee and business listing. But worth noting it is located here. There's an insane amount of picnicking spots. A perk with it being paid entry is that you're very likely to find a table and they even offer spots for charcoal disposal. They do offer being able rent out large spots for very big gatherings as well. They have a big splash pad and a nice large outdoor pool which has proper rope separation between shallow and deep ends. Again, the pool is quite large, so even on a busy hot Saturday in July, there was reasonable room in the shallow end - but considerably more space in the deep end. There is another fee for swimming, but it's quite reasonable. Good lifeguard ratio as well. So you've got to 'pay to play', but I also can't say there isn't value for the money. I'd highly recommend looking at an annual pass (family pass especially) which probably pays for itself within 2-3 visits here, or to any of the other TRCA conservation areas. I believe Brampton library does offer the ability to borrow a pass, but you'd want to plan ahead as I wouldn't be surprised there's holds for it.

You're able to drive the boat to different islands and dock there. There's a BBQ on deck as well and the entire experience was relaxing. It was my first time and from check in to check out, it was seamless. Frank took the time out to train us and made us feel confident enough to drive and dock. Thank you - we will be back!

The staff a great at training and put in enough time to teach you how to handle the houseboat. They provide a service line if you need it and always have someone there to answer questions. I went in late May where the whether was ok but very quiet in the late spring so no issues with busy locks or too many boaters in the water. Got a chance to see their luxury boats and it's like a floating hotel. Can't wait to go back. Highlights of the trip were Boyd island, Bobcaygeon, Lower Buckhorn lake, Wolfe Island and Lovesick lock.

I wanted to plan a last minute kayaking trip with my partner so we found this place in Keswick and…read moredecided to just do a walk-in. Upon arrival, it may seem like it's difficult to find parking, but once you drive past the shop, there is a lot of parking behind. We walked into the shop, and within seconds, staff greeted us. It was great and easy to know everything as there was a giant menu of all the services and water activities they provided. We asked for 2 single kayaks, and they told us there were plenty! 1 single kayak is $25/4 hours, which is an amazing price. This also includes a lifejacket and paddle. You honestly can't find this deal in Toronto. You get charged a mandatory damage deposit of $200 per kayak first, and once you return from your trip, you get your deposit back and pay the $25. The staff were very nice and the lake was great! The kayaks and paddles were super sturdy and well maintained. We went around 2pm and there were a decent amount of people, but not too packed. Later in the afternoon is when we saw it started getting pretty busy. There was a hiccup in payments at first, where the first card machine didn't work, so I used a second one. After my trip, I checked my bank and they charged me twice. They were super nice and accommodating and refunded me back the amount. I will definitely be back and rent with them again!!!

There would be less mess in an animal pen. The prices charged are no reflection of the state of the facility and pontoons. The first pontoon we rented had a grease spill all over the side ledge of the vessel right beside the ladder to board and get off of the vessel for swimming. Thank goodness we did not add the feature as we would not have been able to use the bbq in the condition. Pontoon 17. On our second attempt the pontoon was still definitely not in spic and span power washed state as shown in the advertisement. FYI - upon arrival 10.00 to park a big vehicle. 10.00 for each fishing rod with 5 feet of line on them if that as they did not bother to re-line the rods between customers.and 10.00 per pot of worms. The pontoon engine was not in the greatest condition as it sounded like the water pump was not clearing the water well which made it very very loud sluggish and squirrelly to drive. We cut our visit short and upon arrival the owner came out to ask if we were done with the worms we could not use. Strange. No other questions. Also we found that the anchor line was short on the pontoon so check if you go. The marina is a little crazy to walk as well. Small slips and very very unkept grounds. This place has a lot of potential but unfortunately it seems that cutting corners will be its demise. Number 13 pontoon front door also kept opening as we drove the lake since the latch to keep the door closed was missing entirely. The booking staff are somewhat stern if you call to re- arrange your trip. Don't even try to cancel. please note ...The younger staff carrying out the physical departure and arrival are excellent in spite of the overall management of this place. I believe that at the price point for the rentals there could be a great deal of improvement made to this facility. Customers are taking their loved ones on the lake for a easy safe adventure and I feel that they are a little indifferent and lacking in maintenance. It's been a week since our trip and could not let this experience go unmentioned.

Family had a really great time here!…read more My daughter is 6 and wanted to try fishing after hearing about it at school. We didn't want to go far, with boat rentals, etc. This was perfect for us. The ponds are not deep, they get very shallow by the edges. You do need to cast quite far to get closer to where the fish are in the deeper waters. There are a bunch of pipes nearing the shallow waters, make sure you reel continuously over those areas, as a few times my daughter stopped and the hook got caught on the pipe. There are staff available to help you with your catch, to get the hook dislodged and fish dropped into your basket. They also clean and bag your fish on ice. Fish are priced by weight. A family ahead of us paid $94 for 4 fish, we paid $126 for 4 fish. Fish also tasted great. Their rules are stated on their website and on a board at the entryway. No dogs, no bbq, no catch and release. Respect these few rules and you'll have a great time.

I grew up in Markham and remember coming here with my Dad over 30 years ago. Decided to come here…read moreagain with him except with my kids to have an enjoyable time fishing from ponds stocked full of rainbow trout. Most things are the same, some have changed. They no longer have the awesome "food shooting gun" or the "vacuum powered fish cleaning suction machine". The upper and lower ponds now both stock the same sized fish (upper pond used to be bigger fish). You can rent rods, there's a fee per fisher, and fish is $33/lb and you can't throw back what you catch. Expensive, but altogether reasonable because you're paying for an experience and not the fish itself. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially if you need help landing a fish. Went at opening 10am and they weren't busy. First hour we caught nothing, even with the provided worms and power bait. We then learned that technique matters! Tip - the rainbow trout are less interested in a non moving bait and bobber. They much prefer a slow reel and want to chase their food. Once we figured this out we were catching like crazy! One of my kids even caught a fish with a landing net! Super fun. Decided to keep 5 fish for a total of $180. Overall worth it for the fun experience w the kids. Down a star because it's expensive and not something we can afford to do frequently.

We caught fish of course, but we really enjoyed chatting with Ryan and learning about the Toronto area and Lake Ontario. Ryan was great with my teenagers, who despite limited fishing experience caught fish and had a great time. Great family memories.

Not even the best part, well maybe it was the best part, was halfway through the morning: my 14 year old pulled in a 29+ pound salmon. Turns out that it was the Great Ontario Salmon Derby weekly winner. As soon as the fish got on board, Ryan made sure it did not lose an ounce of weight and he helped us submit the fish after the trip was over. He obviously knows what he is doing and our family's greatest fish story has a Derby win it.
