We used Port Taxi after a wedding this past weekend (we lived 6 miles down the road), and when they pulled up, the driver was in her own personal vehicle. She explained during the ride that they were down a cab so she was driving her own vehicle. There was no meter, and no price estimate given to us. She struggled with her Google Maps for awhile and we started to feel like this was not a professional operation. Then during the drive, she started telling us about how Port Taxi saved some girls from being price gouged recently. When I mentioned that Uber had tried to charge us $75 to go the 6 miles home, she said quietly, "Well, this is $77." I was floored. $77 to go 6 miles? How is that calculated if there is no meter? I would not trust them without an upfront estimate. My guess is they look at whatever Uber is charging during surge times and match that. There needs to be more regulation on taxis because people are getting taken advantage of. read more

Knew I had an appt. at AJH. Called Port taxi to see if they covered my area. Mike was pleasant, answered my questions. When I called after I was done Mike said they were short drivers and would be 2 hrs +/-. A little while later I get a callback saying I will have a ride in 15 - 20 minutes. I had taken a taxi on Saturday 2/18/23 at 1pm I waited almost 45 minutes. The lady on the phone was not the nicest person. If someone is going to represent a company they should be polite. When I called back and asked where my taxi was the lady practically yelled at me . I take this taxi service quite often and last time I had called a man in the early morning was very nice and also the young Girl that answered the last time was so nice too. Loved when they answered and they were always honest with the time frame . These are the type of people that should be answering my phone call. I will not be calling back anytime soon if I'm going to just get yelled at when I was told 15 minutes my taxi would arrive . when the taxi finally arrived it smelled like cigarettes. Totally unreliable. Not the first time they didn't show up after booking. Called and no answer on phone. Called again 20 min. later, message box full. They could at least leave a message such as "overbooked", "short staffed", "owner died", etc. Glad it wasn't for a medical appointment. read more

Port Taxi is a deplorable example of a local monopoly. First, the positives: There is very little in the way of public transportation in this area, and Port Taxi provides a needed and useful service at a low price, especially for seniors. Its car pooling makes it more like a jitney service than a typical taxi. Now the bad: It is amazing to me that Port Taxi's vehicles pass inspection. Plus, they are filthy. The van that picked us up the other day looked like it was fresh from the junkyard. The driver, like all of the drivers I've ever had with Port Taxi, was obviously a smoker, so the vehicle had that distinctive used tobacco smell. The driver spent all her time chit-chatting with the other passenger, to the extent that we never got a greeting or any assistance with our luggage. (On the other hand, the driver was so pre-occupied with the stories being swapped with the other customer, but we wouldn't have had to pay the fare if I hadn't reminded the driver that we owed money. On another occasion, we suffered a flight delay, took the C&J bus to the Newburyport station only to be told that they don't drive cabs between 1:30-4:30 AM, even though buses run until 3:30 AM. Port Taxi survives only because it faces no real competition. I look forward to using another alternative. read more

We used this company twice today- the weather It was raining and we did not feel like walking. We didn't have to wait long both times. But first time driver told us that he will have to pick up another fair for carpool and said it was the company's common routine. Second time were promised the cab will pick us up in 15 min, and the driver showed up 17 min later. But he didn't show up at the door but was honking in the street-my friend had a sleeping baby at the house. Totally rude. Driver got lost at first, did not have GPS, and both cars smelled like smoke. read more

Called dispatcher told him I needed to be at the Nebpt train and get in at 6:57 got picked up at 6:51 driver went down a wrong St.. &the dispatcher said I could pay credit. The cab driver said he was not set up for that and didn't have the app.No way I was going to make it. So they had to bring me home! Allso said I owed $10.00 for the trip that just took me back home. They said it would be a felony to not pay for a wasted trip that was poorly planed by the dispatcher&driver had no idea where he was going! I want my money back in full!!! read more

Presently I don't have a car. That leaves me at the mercy of having to take taxis to get to where I need to be and back. Most every time the driver picks me up they're not wearing a mask. Today as to be expected the driver wasn't wearing a mask. To make matters worse (much worse!) he kept on sneezing. Luckily I had a mask on and was sitting in the back. Port Taxi has always loaded the taxi with various customers who are going to different places. Even with the pandemic and social distancing they continue to squeeze people in the taxis. It is so irresponsible for the owner (s) of the company not to adhere to the same rules every one else is. Every other taxi company that I've utilized the drivers all have masks and there's social distancing. Port Taxi isn't safe. They feel like they don't have to adhere to the same guidelines every other company does. I wouldn't get rides from them! read more

I have used this company 2 times this year and I have never had an issue with them. The first time, I needed a cab from C&J to Salisbury. I had actually called another service but when that car arrived, it died. Port Taxi was there less than 10 minutes later. It was probably around 9pm at that time. My driver was friendly and punctual. The second time, I needed to go from Salisbury to State Street, Newburyport. The cab was at my home 10 minutes after I called and my driver was not only punctual but hilarious! Again, this was after 9pm. I see a lot of bad reviews but all my rides with them have been solo and on time. Some people complain about the fact that they honk to let you know that they're there or that the car smells...where do you think you are? New York City? read more

Scheduled a taxi to pick me up at the train station as I am on crutches, and specificially mentioned it to the dispatcher. They never showed up and if it weren't for london taxi I would have had to crutch home 1.5 miles in the snow. Terrible service, took three attempts to call them to even get someone to pick up the phone. I couldn't reccomend more strongly against using this taxi service. Worst taxi experience ever! Last night my taxi had no heat which is a disgrace in the middle of Winter/February. If that wasn't bad enough, tonight's taxi was full of cigarette smoke. I called to complain and was told they would have a manager call me back to decide wether or not my credit card will be charged. This is literally the worst 'cab' company I have ever encountered. I commute to Boston and whenever I'm without a car and need to get to the commuter train this cab almost never even shows up let alone gets me to the train on time. This morning for example, called them at 8am, they confirmed they would be here to pick me up at 8:30 for an 8:48 train...they show up to my house at 8:48.....They are unreliable and have completely awful customer service, that is when they ACTUALLY ANSWER which is rare. Every time I tried to use them from the NBPT train station to my house they were late. This was really annoying in winter as I had to wait out side (one time up to 25min) in freezing cold weather. One time I tried to use them from my house to train station and they were so late that I missed the train. I stop using their services after that. read more

Worst service there is!!! How is it when you call a day in advance to set up a time they can be a half hour later? This is after stressing the how important it is to be somewhere. We called at 2:10 to ask what time we needed a cab to the 2:48 train. They said they'd be there at 2:30. At 2:35 I called again and the dispatcher said they were pulling in. They did not. I tried calling again 5 more times and no one picked up. The driver came at 2:44 and we missed the train. The next train would be at 5:48, three hours later. The driver was gracious and asked the dispatcher for us about taking a bus. He drove us back to town and then to the bus stop. The trip cost us an extra $32 one way by bus and left us at South Station, which is not nearly as convenient as North Station. I would give only one star except for the fact that the driver was a nice and helpful guy. The dispatcher, who obviously wouldn't pick up my call again when the cab was running late, should receive no stars. read more

Last night my husband and I were given no other option than to call this taxi service to get home. (We didn't know Uber did not pick up from Salisbury) the guy showed up smoking a cigarette and asked if we smoked. We said no and he then threw it out the window. It smelled so disgusting in this piece of junk. He had a buddy with him in the passenger seat. These two guys looked like absolute trash. It was 1am and we didn't really have any other option so we continued with the ride. The guy was chugging NOZ (energy drink). He gets a call asking if we have been picked up and then was asked why he didn't take our payment yet. He had to pull over into a dark parking lot start to try to find his little machine to process our payment. It was so sketchy. By the time he got the highway the guy was basically nodding off. His friend had to tap him and then was making excuses for him. My husband and I started to freak out. My husband told him to take the next exit and let us out at the first place with lights. About halfway home from a 35 min ride. He started telling us he was fine just a little tired. Making up all these excuses and my husband and I both basically begged him to just let us out. He was nodding off behind the wheel!??? Really??? This is the type of people you send out get people home safely?? My heart was pounding I thought we were going to die on the highway. This is by no means exaggerated. I'm still shaken up from it. I've now called the company twice since and have not received a call back from the owner or management. read more

I've used Port taxi several times, each time with negative experiences. I kept trying thinking I'd gotten the one bad driver but nope, each time was something different. I've been picked up for scheduled rides when the van was full and I had to carry my luggage on my lap. I had a driver who to me seemed drunk or impaired. Car doors don't always open and seat belts don't work. More recently I had a driver who tried to run my credit card while driving and almost ran off the road and then tried again while going over a bridge and almost went off the bridge. I'm officially done with them and praying Uber gains more drivers here on the north shore. read more

Am I required to give these clowns even a one star rating because, in my opinion, that is high. Conclusion: If you can walk, walk. That's my recommendation. I was forced to call a cab at 3 a.m. upon having to drop my car off at a local mechanic early one morning. The taxi office was literally about 1/8th of a mile from where the mechanic is located in Salisbury. I was told the taxi would be there in 5 to 10 minutes. As I stood there waiting I watched one of their taxis drive straight by the garage. After having stood there for 30 minutes I phoned them back and asked if they'd forgotten about me. I was told he was on his way and was very close. After 15 more minutes had elapsed I got so annoyed I decided to start walking to my house which was about a mile or so away. Had I known they'd have taken 45 minutes I could have walked home, back to the garage and home again in less time. I was approximately 1/4 of the way home when a cab pulled up along side me where the driver sat there gawking at me through the passenger side window. I was so furious I just waved him on and kept on walking. The cabs are in utterly deplorable condition, but that's the good news. The bad news is that the drivers make the cabs look like limousines. I am a registered nurse whose car broke down two months ago...thank God for Port! They are always punctual and courteous! I think Ive met every cab driver by now and they have ALL been professional and friendly. I think if youve had one bad experience, you should give them another chance! Port taxi is the worst cab company ever. I used this cab company twice on the same day. First I HAD TO WAIT 1 HOUR (LITERALLY 1 HOUR) before the cab showed up. The second time, I scheduled the pick up 3 hours ahead, just to make sure. Still, they DIDN'T COME TO PICK ME UP AND I MISSED THE LAST TRAIN HOME!!! BECAUSE OF THIS AWFUL COMPANY!! Yesterday afternoon my boyfriend and I arrived at the newburyport amtrack station and we called this cab company to get downtown. After waiting 20 minutes or so, we called back and we were told it was coming. Finally we saw a taxi on back of the station (we were standing at the front): we started running and waving but the cab didn't even stop for 1 second. We (delusional as we were) assumed the driver was going to come to check the front of the station: after 5 minutes of waiting, it was painfully obvious that it was not the case. We called again and we were told that, since they usually pick up their clients on the other side of the station and no one was there the taxi just left. Unfortunately, they had failed to mention where to wait if it was that important!! Anyway the woman on the phone told us to keep waiting and she'd send us another cab. Finally, after 1 hour, we got downtown...now we know that after this experience we should have called another company but we decided to give them another chance: we called them 3 hours ahead to schedule a pick-up to go back to the station. We made clear that we needed the cab to be on time because we had to catch the last train (and because we had had enough of waiting outside in the cold). However the cab failed to show up on time. We called one last time and we were told, surprise surprise, to wait a "few minutes" longer. read more

Twice now I have called for a pickup from the Newburyport train station and was assured of a pickup at the time of the train's arrival (10:30 at night, not a safe time to be waiting on a train platform alone). Two stories..#1 I arrived at the bus station in Nbpt, coming in from Logan Airport. The cab was there on time..we were headed to my address when the driver passed Low street, and then told me that he had another fare to pick up. The woman that he picked up, got into the van and lit up a cigarette! I asked her to please put it out. She said `sorry, I didn`t know you were back there`.So, off we go, in the opposite direction of my home..Again! He stops at a house, gets out, and helps a drunken man into the van. We continue on to the NE boat club, where once again he has to help the drunken man into the club. The time from bus station to my door, 38 minutes! This is generally a 5 minute drive. #2 I called the cab company at 2:20 today, and they told me a couple of minutes..40 minutes later, the mini van pulled up. I gave the young woman my destination. Corner of High and N Atkinson streets. She asked `Where`s High Street`? For those of you who live in the Port, I know you`re laughing, as High Street is the main street. I gave her directions, and she immediately stepped on the gas and blew right through a 4 way stop sign intersection! I was like..STOP sign!!! Then I told her the next left, she drove straight past..I then told her she had missed the turn. She yelled into the back seat and told me that if I didn`t tone it down, she would make me leave the cab! I told her that she had scared the heck out of me and to please just let me out.. NEVER,NEVER again...It`s horrifying that we don`t have a proper cab company in Newburyport...The End.. read more
