The course starts at 159th and Cicero, runs north up Cicero, trough Oak Forest on the west side of Cicero, and then back south down Cicero. It's all on the streets so there's plenty of room. Like pretty much every race ever, the final stretch is uphill, in this case the viaduct under the Metra tracks. The course support was good - water stations, well staffed race day packet pick-up. Overall it was a very well executed race. The price is on par with other 5Ks in the area ($30). You get a long-sleeve t-shirt in the goody bag and a bunch of random promotion swag from local business - pens, cups, magnets, a letter opener?. Apparently, this year you can drop another $5 for a long-sleeve dry-tech shirt which I appreciate. Dry-tech shirts get much more wear from me. I'm planning to run again this year, and maybe even stick around for the parade or some of the restaurant/ bar open houses.

Neat little railroad festival located in downtown Homewood Illinois. This festival runs every year…read morefor a single day during May. It is sponsored and run by the Village of Homewood. The fest has numerous train layouts and a healthy assortment of vendors selling train memorabilia. It is also a good place to get train modeling advice and ideas. This is a great fest for train buffs but even more so for kids. Bring them all for a nice day in Homewood. Tours through a real locomotive engine and caboose are also available for the whole family. Best of all..the fest and tours are free.

I'm an educator that went to Odyssey Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maize with about 50 students…read moreranging from 11 to 14 years old. It was a beautiful, sunny October day, and the weather was perfect to have fun at the Punkin Patch! The price per person was $14.50. I feel that this fee was overpriced. There are not enough activities here to charge this much money. They could at least offer a discount for the large group that attended. The highlight of the trip was the Corn Maize. It is huge and takes about 45 minutes to find an exit. The students enjoyed the corn shooter where they could shoot guns at the targets. I rode the hayride 2 times, which was a very quick, boring ride. It appeared to stop and run out of gas. We were stalled for a few minutes. The kiddie tractor pull ride is for small adults and children, but it was a very slow ride. Many students enjoyed the petting zoo, which contained goats, donkeys, etc. There was also a bouncy area for kids to jump on. The food was extremely mediocre and overpriced. I paid 13 dollars for a small, nasty piece of pizza and an order of fries. I do not recommend the food. Parking is free and they have a big lot. Every person received a pumpkin as they exited the farm. The kids had a lot of fun outside, but I feel that it wasn't worth the prices.

They do have some good kid attractions that as an adult were pretty fun. There is a giant inflated "pillow" jumper, which was very bouncy and fun. My sister and I came on a Friday and it was pretty empty. It's like a giant trampoline but shaped like a pillow on the ground. The second attraction we enjoyed was the corn box. It's a sandbox but instead of sand, it was corn. So much fun! But mostly because no one else was there, we were able to enjoy sinking into the corn kernels and making corn angels. Otherwise, admission was pricey for adults given that there isn't much to do. You do get 2 coupons with admission price. One coupon gave a few dollars off food and the other gave a few dollars off a pumpkin. This place isn't a farm really but like a plot of land. They do have free parking in the lot. I think this may be fun for kids on a weekend but not so much for adults looking for a fun fall day. We spent maybe 1.5 hours there, walking around and looking for a pumpkin. We came there for the corn maize and were disappointed but maybe our expectations were too high.

They also had a booth with wine and spirits for people who like those. Food was catered by Beggars Pizza and was tasty. Pizza, beef sandwiches, sausage, pasta, pretzels, salad, etc. Bags and other games were set up around for people to play with and everyone got a complementary beer glass. It's held inside the public works main building, so the acoustics aren't excellent for the live music but overall it's a good event that didn't run too long and was a decent value.
