Some friends and I purchased Living Social deals online for the BYOB cooking class. Add BYOB to ANY event and it's always a winner for me :). I'm really glad I purchased it without reading where it was located, because had I saw that it was on the other side of GA, I probably wouldn't have gotten it and I would have missed out on a great experience. The place is located in a small shopping center next to a barber shop and some other stores. Parking was easy to find. We walked in and were greeted by one of the Chefs and told to sign in on their signup sheet. After that, we sat down at a table. They had things set up as 3 square tables with 4 chairs each (total of 12). Once some of my other friends arrived we all decided to join the tables, even with the folks we didn't know, to give the whole experience a Family Style feel. I'm glad we joined the tables because everyone really got a chance to get to know each other and there were tons of laughs and bottles being shared. We washed our hands and were given aprons to put on. We made Baja Tacos with cilantro rice and Pico de Gallo. I don't know how to cook, but I still really enjoyed watching as the chefs explained each thing that we need to do. Rather than doing it for us, they showed us examples and then left us to finish the rest. I zested the limes with a zester and I got to mix the fish with the seasoning that we made. The bottles were pouring and drinks were flowing. Once everything was done, they plated the food we made and served it to us. We sat down and ate our food and it was really tasty! They surprised us with some delicious dessert. We had enough food for left overs and they made a box for each of us to take home (they really came in handy the next day because we were SOOO hungry and didn't feel like leaving the house). This was a really fun experience and it left me feeling confident that I can try some of the things I learned at home. We'll see how that goes but I will be sure to have a glass of margarita on deck when I do! read more

We had a lot of fun on 6/28. This is a great beginner's class for those that aren't comfortable with cooking. It even teaches a few new tricks for those that have been cooking forever. It is very hands-on. We actually had to break our group into two dates because of the limit, but our other group went on 6/21 and had a good time too. The later group has actual planned a challenge to re-create the jerk fish dinner we prepared. Now this should be interesting! lol This is definitely something we will do again. The people made the experience fun...we even welcomed the guy Brian who came solo like we've known him forever. This is good for fellas/ladies night out, bdays, even date night. Have fun with it. Great concept and presentation on some things. IM BEING VERY GENEROUS WITH MY STAR RATING. Love that it's black owned... pictures are a lil deceiving, I expected to see this place lit up bright as the pics. I ordered smokehouse wings which I was excited about but when I got Home it wasn't SMOKED WINGS at all but fried with sauce n no seasoning (disappointing). The Jerk skewers wasn't Jerk at all (I'm from the islands and expect more) Good try. This place has been here for a few years I just wish they add more flavor (seasonings) to their food vs disguising it with sauces. I also was missing an item which they kindly refunded me for. I tried this food because I want to have a class there later this year. The savory food was so delicious, it was hard to "sample". When my order arrived the food was well packaged and wrapped so that nothing spilled, including my Arnold Palmer. Here is what I ordered: 8 pc smoked pork combo with BBQ baked mango beans ($8.95), house rubbed smoked pork combo with mac & cheese, collard greens; sauce on the side ($12.00), Carmel glazed apple pie ($4). The ribs were pretty good and the mango baked beans had a nice taste. The mango flavor wasn't as pronounced as I would have like but it had a bit of mango flavor present. The mac & cheese was amazing! I could have had a couple of servings of this stuff! It was creamy, hot and perfectly cheesed . The collard greens were great as well. It was by far my favorite dish of the entire meal. The one thing I didn't like was everything was sauced. I like to add my own sauce, but at least the meat was tender and hot. Which lets me know it wasn't sitting all day under some heat lamp. The reason for my star deduction is the dessert. The apples were tender and amazingly seasoned, the crust was flaky and was a cross between phyllo and crescent dough, delicious. Then, I had another bite and it tasted like onions or something savory. Which lead me to believe they cut my pie with something that was used on food. At least, that was my assumption, unless they had my dessert close to another food item. It was totally disgusting and ruined the dessert for me, obviously. This place is sooooo goood! I was on my way back home & stopped by. I got jerk chicken kabobs & macaroni. I surprised my boo with a plate too & he killed it! It was the right amount of heat & cooked to perfection. They have decent sized portions, enough to let a friend TASTE the awesomeness. The mac & cheese was exactly what youd want & expect in baked macaroni. Ill be back, thats for sure. read more

My friend and I attended the Cook and Sip class on 12/6/14. I must say I got incredibly lost thanks to unreliable GPS, which caused me to be over 15 mins late. The staff was so understanding and accommodating. The waited for me to get there before they got started. I felt terrible having caused the class to be held up on my behalf. So after I finally got settled in, I was able to wash my hands in COLD water ....hot water wasn't an option.(YUCK) I then got ready to COOK or at least that's what I assumed I would be doing in a COOKING CLASS. The area in which the class is held in, operates in a single stove kitchen...not typical of a cooking class. The area was tastefully decorated with linen table cloths and such. We were then motioned over to another area for the chicken prep. The class had NO involvement in cooking the chicken. The chicken was solely prepared by the chef as the class watched on. We were however able to chop some veggies for the pasta salad. So I guess you can call this a 'Chopping" class...lol We did absolutely NO COOKING none what so ever. I was very disappointed that it wasn't truly a hands-on cooking class. I have experienced Publix and Whole Food Couples Cooking classes as well Sur La Table. Portrait on Plate doesn't compare. This class was more so a demonstration class with a social entertaining twist. Although, my cooking experience was nonexistent during this class. I still had fun mingling and socializing with the other couples. We sipped wine and took lots of pictures. So I would say that, if you are looking for a true 'cooking' class, this isn't the place to go. However, if you are seeking a socially interactive date night, this is the place to go! *****Tips that I think that would make this a great cooking experience**** Upgrade the class menu beyond just chicken and potatoes . Include a starch and vegetable to accompany the protein. Include an appetizer and a dessert. Choose quick meals that allow time for the class to cook and eat there not take home. Invest in a few cook tops such as some plug-in electric burners to allow the class to participate in the cooking aspect . Use of gloves for the entire class!!! read more

WOW! We never even knew this place existed until tonight. My husband & I are both home sick & didn't want pizza but didn't want to go out to get anything & he found this place on Yelp deliveries! WOW!!! We had the POP Bistro Burgers w/ fries and mac & cheese and Fusion BBQ Nacho - we have LOTS of leftovers but we wanted to try it all! Everything was incredible! Oh & I ordered a sweet tea and since I am sick, when I took that 1st sip - it was pure heaven, super sweet and delicious!!!! Delivery was fast & friendly as well!!!! I booked a class for 4 on living social. I was contacted by Marcia to say that I had to pay an additional fee because it was a special event (even though their website didn't say this until AFTER I paid for the coupon). They claimed their systems had been down, but this kinda rubbed me the wrong way... not a great 1st impression to make. I was told the evening was booked and my guests and I would be the last 4. However, when we arrived, we were the only four. The chefs were really nice, friendly, and informative. We didn't do much cooking because it was mother's day, but I was told this in advance. We made coq a vin, and the food was absolutely delicious! We received a pineapple sage plant as a gift. We were told we would receive an email with the recipes, and 3 weeks later I still don't have them. They have the potential to be an awesome business, but they need to work on honesty and follow up. The food was great, and my friends and I had fun. I may try them again in the future. If those 2 areas don't improve, I wouldn't go back. read more

I'm going to explain exactly why I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5. First of all the first time I tried to order from grub hub they didn't have the delivery option and I didn't realize it until I had already placed the order I had to call and cancel but two days later the option was available which is amazing. I ordered the jerk chicken skewers with pina colada cold slaw and a side of Mac and cheese and corn on the cob. The skewers were actually pretty damn good and spicy which I love but the cold slaw was disappointing it sounded unique so I wanted to try it but they had old cold slaw mix and drowned it in sauce it was entirely too soupy and sweet I didn't like it at all I tried to give it a chance but no. The Mac and cheese was cheesy and delicious and I was thankful that tasted really good as far as the corn on the cob I don't know what seasoning was on it but they should've left it off....period. My fiancé and I went there for valentines day. We booked A COOKING CLASS! Though the atmosphere was nice and the other couples made the experience enjoyable, we did not cook ANYTHING! We did, however chop onions and bell peppers. I was highly disappointed at how misleading the discription was. It wouldn't have been bad if we wanted a "personal chef feel." Matter fact, that's exactly what it was, he cooked the food, answered questions and we tasted some apitizers and our dinner was boxed and we were out the door. No plated food to enjoy with my fiancé. For the money we spent, a fancy restaurant would have suffices. Now I would say, that fun part of the evening was doing the blind taste testing. I"ve been to Portrait on a plate twice for birthday cooking classes. It was a great experience both times. I loved the hands on with the grilling class. The first class we didn't get recipe cards so I was a little disappointed about that. But the second class the recipe cards were with our to go boxes (which i absolutely loved). You can ask any question you like, especially when the group is small, and they will answer (every day cooking questions, or an experience you had where a dish didn't turn out so well). Every single guest made sure to let us know that the catering was superb and everyone asked who the company was. We had passed hors d'oeuvres, Chef Mark on the grill serving up all sorts of items and a beautiful setup and display with the side items. They provided all china and cleaned up everything! We contacted Portrait On a Plate for a last minute catering need. Chef Mark was helpful, responsive and they fit us into their already busy schedule! The food was hot, fresh and very delicious! They had several options and we were able to select the options that best fit our budget. Payment was initiated through an online portal system, which felt a little complicated. I was unable to get it to work, but they were very accommodating and let us pay over the phone. If we are ever back in Atlanta for our event, we'll be calling Portrait on a Plate again! read more

When I pay $6+ for an appetizer I expect it to be good. When I arrived it was a little messy I saw a few food safety concerns as I have experience in the industry, but when my appetizer arrived in the to go box it didn't look good. After walking out to my car and opening the box and tasting the jalapeno poppers I can say I will never go again. the quality expected was lacking.
