The service at the Civic Center Marin farmers market is horrible. Grumpy, unhappy, rude women working there. The baked goods are fabulous but the shopping experience not. There are other delicious bakeries that will be getting my business. Shame. read more

I go to the Thursday farmers market at the Civic Center in San Rafael with a couple coworkers and one of them introduced me to Portside Bakery. I've tried several of their baked goods including a few of their breads, the Kouign-amonn, the tomato tart, and the cookies. Everything is fresh and delicious. There is nothing I've tried that I didn't like. The ladies from the bakery are nice. Usually there are some baked goods leftover at the end of the market and they have a BOGO deal which is great! This last week I got two loaves of bread for $13! Not bad for locally made bread and they're delicious. They don't have a storefront but be sure to check them out at the farmers markets in Marin and SF! read more

Came across Portside Bakery at a farmer's market in North Beach and, after seeing the beautiful spread of bread & pastries, knew I had to give it a try! We bought a gruyère french onion sourdough loaf and a passion fruit puffin. The loaf was deliciously savory and had a great chew. Even better though was the passion fruit puffin - this is honestly one of the best pastries I've ever had. The pastry to filling ratio is perfect. Each bite had a great amount of the passion fruit filling which was nice and tart and worked really well with the sugar dusted on the outside of the puffin. Will definitely be back to try their other goods! read more

I can honestly report that I've never had anything from Portside that I didn't like. The salty, buttery, sweetness of their Kouign-amonn is worth getting up early on Sunday mornings for. But then again, the same can be said for their croissants, morning buns, croissant loaf, brown butter chocolate chip cookies, and everything else on their menu. The croissant loaf makes amazing French toast - cut it thick and leave it in the egg and butter mixture to absorb the liquid. So yummy... The staff is always helpful and friendly. read more

The Kouign-Amann looks small but it's a heavyweight, wallops you with that Salty Sweet. Morning Bun is chewy with cinnamon, and light as a cloud. Passionfruit Puffin, I'll take that to Heart's Desire and devour whole after a plunge into Tomales Bay. read more

The puffin from Portside Bakery is the reason I trek to the San Rafael Farmers Market on Thursdays... Layers of flaky goodness filled with sweet and creamy seasonal flavored custard. This pastry is absolutely delicious. This definitely deserves a spot on the Bay Area Top 100 Eats list! read more

There is always a reason why particular vendors have the longest lines. Don't bother if you don't have the patience to wait, you don't deserve these delicacies. Bought three items from their stand at the stonestown Farmers market a few months ago: smoked salmon cream cheese croissant, ham & egg croissant, and olive sourdough bread. The smoked salmon croissant was just the perfect amount of filling to croissant ratio and I loved the poppy and sesame seeds on the outside. The croissant was light and airy, with layers of buttery flakey goodness. yum! Haven't tried the rest yet, but I'm certain everything at their stand is solid. read more
