For my birthday this year my husband started the day by surprising me in the morning with a dozen donuts. When I was a kid this was a special treat we had at Catechism and again my dad would walk with me to the Public Library to borrow books and after I got to choose a donut at the pink box donut shop closeby. I shared those memories with my husband who decided to make this years birthday a sentimental one, which started with a candle in a box of donuts waking me up for my special day. The donuts were delicious! The old fashioned - my favorite were equally crisp and light. The glaze wasn't too much so it wasn't overly sweet that begs for lots of Black coffee. I enjoyed them with a creamy sweet latte. We sat in bed eating donut after donut. These donuts were SO GOOD, I want another box. Come over and we can eat them together! Prompt service, inexpensive, and all 3 donuts we bought were excellent. I'm a huge apple fritter fan, and mine was outstanding! Just the right balance of crispness and soft dough, and plenty of apple flavor. The selection isn't huge, but all the classics are there. I'll be coming back. Stick with take out. This is not the place to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. It's relatively small and crowded. Review #276 - 2018 I was actually pretty hungry, since we've been up since 7 AM & most of the breakfast places were closed on Labor Day. I finally thought I was in luck when I saw this place still open while driving out to Larkspur for our church picnic. I knew that there would be food at the picnic, but I just wasn't sure what time the food would be ready so I didn't want to show up starving. Plus, I was planning to grab some drinks at Sharetea & needed to kill some time until noon. When my nephew and I showed up around 11:30'ish, the parking lot was full. I sent him in to grab a few of the ham & cheese croissants and cream cheese croissants as well. Unfortunately, he calls me and tells me that they don't have any at all. He asks if they are still baking them & if so how long is the wait. The girl says, "we just have what you see on display". So, why were the croissants on the menu? He ended up buying 16 pieces of doughnut holes and a can of coconut drink. I ate one of the doughnut holes and it didn't taste fresh. My nephew said it tasted worse than the boxed doughnuts at Safeway. Well, I guess I was not lucky after all! read more

Tucked away in the Canal Area of San Rafael, a true hidden gem. They serve bagels, croissants and a small selection of doughnuts, but they are made fresh every morning, if you get there early enough, the doughnuts are still warm. They have an assortment of beverages as well. They are also very generous with the amount of filing they put inside the doughnut. 4/28/18 This is definitely the strangest doughnut shop I've ever been to. And I'm not even excluding the various Voodoo-wannabe's out there. If you want WeIRdAsS doughnuts THIS is your place. First off, the Yelp title is not even its full name which is actually "Sunrise Doughnuts and Chinese Fast Food." Straight outta Twilight Zone is you ask me. When I walked in I was greeted with a small assortment of various Panda Inn items, and a whole huge pile of monster chicken legs--like we're talking the Arnolds of chicken here. Holy hell. ....but wait... this is a doughnut shop right!?!? I walked around and looked up and down... where's the doughnuts??? I saw MONSTER croissants--like seriously so huge only Roseanne would look right eating. Just big fatass obese croissants. Ewwwwww. And some weird cakes....... and big bubbly apple fritters, like a bubbling tumor mass growing on a poor person's body. ....basically a few items a doughnut shop would sell, EXCEPT doughnuts!!! ...you know, if baked goods could be VULGAR.... I was more sickened looking than turned on... Alright so curiosity, that human feeling that gets us all killed, made me get one of those mutant fritters. Ok, this is more 3.5 Stars since i think they good in what they are doing what is 4 points, but location (vibe) wise its more 3. This is really an interesting place they serve all days donuts, They don't have a huge variety of donuts, but the ones they have are just as a donut should be. Simple as that. nothing fancy about it but just as they should be. Until 11am its a breakfast shop serving all the necessary stuff like croissants with ham and cheese (also good but nothing special, born in europe (germany) you really get spoiled with high bakery quality, never found a place in the US that comes close) and of course donuts. BUT after 11am they also starting to serve asian food, not the typical orange chicken stuff, but they call it east chinese cuisine . They serve around four to six different dishes each day, they change it from time to time. So there is always one veggie option, a beef, one pork or chicken. They give you a good amount of food / at least last time i was there and have some "Hot Beef with pepper and onions". It was good, no MSGs / cause I can tell in a second when they use MSGs. So for that they get a 3.5 for the chinese food. Until now I don't had a lot, so I will go try different ones and let you know what to think of. They still serve the donuts over the day, so its nice to have a donut as desert. Well then it comes to the place, first of all i was driving there often, saw that place was never keen to visit it, until I looked whats around here on Yelp. And saw the nice reviews this place got, and since im into donuts, I thought i give it a try. And as you have read I did not regret it. BUT (wow second but, hmmm) i wish they have better tables. I don't mind the busy location, nut they only have those tables that have the chairs attached to the tables. So that means for me as a big guy, no chance to sit comfortable. So its a take out and thats ok - but i just love to sit down when i eat. Watching and enjoying people while having lunch / dinner. well you could say I am a lunch/dinner voyeur :-). Also hate when these Stripe / Square / Paypal Days location don't take credit or at least debit cards. That all breaks it down to 3.5. Since there is a lot room for improvement. Pretty tasty donuts, bought a dozen variety off grub hub so was given the option to pick my choices, they got them all right Except for maybe one but I'm not picky when it comes to donuts. They are pretty big compared to the ones at Krispy Kreme m Of course the are nothing compared to my true love Krispy Kreme's, nothing nor no other donut shall ever replace the kreme, but for now, being that Marin will probably never get one, sunrise donuts will have to do. This place has been in the Harbor Shopping Center for a few years. The donuts are pretty good and inexpensive. They have a Chinese Buffet with about 10 items from 11am to 7:30pm every day. The prices have recently gone up; but, you still get a lot of food for only $6.50. There are a few tables and some stools. Most people order take out. The owners are Chinese and the food is pretty good; although it's greasier than most places. Without a doubt, my favorite dish is their Chicken Fried Rice. Though greasy, it has excellent flavor. The Broccoli with Beef is also really good. On top of the rice, my favorite thing is the Hot Sauce. They take Sambal Oelek and doctor it up a bit. It ends up not being as hot as pure Sambal Oelek. Though the owners and cook's are Asian, due to the location, the clientele is 100% Hispanic. During the day, there are a lot of day laborers hanging around. I usually visit at lunch and have never had a problem. Yet, sometimes all the single men (with nothing better to do) staring at you makes you feel uncomfortable. read more

I usually come here a few times a week before school to grab a couple donuts and a coffee. They make their donuts fresh everyday and the family that works here is always friendly to me. Been going here for the last five years since i found out about this place. its sort of tucked away, but worth the drive!
