Updating my review after all these years because Pelican has officially become one of our favourite…read morerestaurants in Ottawa! Funny enough, my original review was from when we randomly discovered their seafood market while going to Farm Boy next door. Since then, we've dined here countless times and even spent our first anniversary here. It became our tradition and we've been coming back to celebrate our anniversary every year since. Their Chi Chi Seafood Tower is hands down our favourite and basically a must-order every time. Everything is always so fresh and it's perfect if you're a seafood lover. We tried the snow crab linguini for the first time on our most recent visit and it was sooo buttery and delicious. Their lobster poutine is another favourite we've had before and is honestly to die for! Over the years we've tried quite a few things here and the quality has always kept us coming back. I also love that there's still a seafood market attached, so you can pick up fresh seafood to bring home as well. From randomly walking into the market years ago to now celebrating our anniversary here every year, Pelican has definitely become a special spot for us. If you're a seafood lover in Ottawa, this is THE spot I always recommend.

While we were waiting for the appetizer we were served bread as well as some black olives. The mussels sauce tasted amazing. My friend says she will be coming back just for that. I chose the chicken for main, they do not offer a piece of chicken they offer two piece or a whole chicken. I could not believe the amount of food for the price. My chicken was really juicy. It was served with salad as well as a side of fries or rice. I picked the option of fries. The salad was ordinary I only had half a cherry tomato, A few pieces of grated carrots as well as a few pieces of onions. The fries were nice and crispy just like I love them. We had a pitcher of water left on the table. That way we could serve ourselves. We both made the mistake of asking for water before we realized it. Free parking with lots of space. They are located in front of movati. I was disappointed that they did not have a cocktail menu. I wish they could make me Discovered some Portugal drinks.

They give us bibs and rubber gloves and you definitely need them! The waitress forgot our water and she wasn't very personable..... at all. She was likely stressed out since it was extremely busy. It's OVERLY crowded there with extremely narrow places to walk between tables and seats so you really need to keep that in mind especially if you're in a wheelchair and if you are, you're definitely not getting past any table to get to your seat. Also, they had no air conditioning so all 3 of us were sweating terribly so I'd call in to be sure there is working A/C.

The shrimp was nice and flavorful but the Cajun was too dense, maybe next time I'll choose another style. The Crawfish was a big disappointment unfortunately I had a few and threw the rest! It tasted funny! Shrimp & clams were my favorite, the Captain's Boil sauce was really good. Shrimp and muscles were also cooked perfectly but again the Cajun was too dense and spicy although I asked for mild. Cajun Fries were OK, a bit soggy and not crunchy. Shrimp Basket was not all that! I won't order it again for sure. It was so greasy for my liking. Seafood Fried Rice was OK, nothing special. Will I order in from there again? Probably not but I will go in person and give it another shot and try new things from their menu.

Apothecary Lounge seemed to have many things I knew I'd enjoy, such as the menu items and the atmosphere. It surpassed expectations. Upon entry, going down the stairs, I noticed an enjoyable aroma, but it took me a minute to realize what it was - cocktail smoke from the wood chips used to smoke many cocktails. That eventually included my first drink, the Mortician. Later in the evening, I took advantage of the Dealer's Choice menu option, to have the bartenders craft a drink to my whim. I requested a variation on an Old Fashioned using Canadian Rye and something other than simple syrup as the sweetener. My drink was interesting and complex, including Amaro Nonino (a favorite of mine) and yellow chartreuse. Well done! We ordered both small plates and entrees while there. Everything came out really quickly, everything was fresh and full of flavor. Of everything I ordered, my favorite was the Bang Bang Shrimp. Unfortunately, the wonderful lounge mood-lighting made it difficult for me to take good photos using my older phone. But the highlight of the evening was the service. We could tell we were going to be in for an enjoyable time the minute he greeted us, wearing a tiara, and joking about how he got it and why he wore it. He was friendly and chatty, while being very knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive, checking on us every few minutes with more banter. he had an infectious laugh that he brought to every table, and it was clear he was enjoying what he was doing. I've had probably thousands of meals out over the years, and most service blends together. This waiter, this service, will be memorable, which helped make the entire experience memorable.
