We came here on a beautiful evening on a weekend.. so everywhere was very busy, the hostess was nice, and said they can seat us in half an hour which was reasonable on such a day for a party of 6. Our server was new, was nice but not very familiar with the menu! It definitely was slow to get even the appetizers! Now for the dishes nothing stands out , everything lacked something, citrus, salt or was too spicy! I wish the menu explained what's in the dishes..we found either extra ingredients than what is listed or lacking ingredients! Came back here for my birthday celebrations and I loved it. We had a really really amazing server (shoutout to Keenan)!!!! The service was great and the atmosphere of the place was even better. All of the workers are very responsive and attentive. I got the tacos Al carbon and my friend ordered the chimichangas. Sooo good!! Whenever I crave Mexican food I think of this place. For dessert we split the deep fried ice cream, and then the when we were paying, the waiter found out my birthday was the coming Monday, got upset that I didn't tell him (the dessert would have been free) and then proceeded to get us churros for free. My favourite Mexican spot in all of Ottawa. This is a quaint and family owned spot. The food is incredible, nothing overly fancy but the cilantro cream sauce is absolutely to die for. Simple items like taco, fajitas, chimichanga (my go to).. plus great margaritas. The service is good, you can tell the lady who works there is very busy and they have young family members working there. Food comes quick enough but it isn't a well-oiled machine or large establishment by any means. So if you can go there with some empathy for the staff, understanding it is a family restaurant and not in a rush you are in a good spot. The environment is really warm, super cute patio and eclectic decor. I really recommend this spot it has been consistently awesome for over 5 years that I've been going there. Absolutely terrible tonight . We sat on the patio ordered our food and after 30 minutes no food not even our nachos. Our waitress advised us that after we arrived a group came into the indoor part of the restaurant and that the kitchen was now backed up. We understood but after 10 minutes later we asked for at least our nachos but to no avail. We asked to speak to Clive but were told he was busy. We agreed to wait another 5 minutes as we were told that the nachos at least would arrive bur not the Pechuga chicken. I politely mentioned that I did not order that dish but the Dobladas knowing that the aforementioned dish takes longer to cook. The waitress left to check where our order was in the queue. Subsequently she came back with an order for people who arrived well after us. At that point we decided to leave. On our way out I was berated for being rude and had made the waitress cry. I have being coming to Feelenas since it opened many many years ago and have never been treated as shabbily as tonight. I have always enjoyed it and have known Clive since 1977 and thought of them as friends. Tonight I was proven wrong. Noooooooooooo!! The staff are cheerful and fun! The decor and vibe are terrific. They set us up outside. But wait. Our tables are wobbly and rest at an angle. Our orders are taken and then ...don't arrive. Other people are seated after us, then are served, and then leave? It begins to get dark and our kids who NEVER complain at restaurants bring up the idea that they are getting maybe very HUNGRY and we are compassionately informed by the waitress - with a sad face - that our meals are a bit late, then informed again with supreme confidence so that we might rearrange our thinking on the topic of when food should arrive if you order from them that it will DEFINITELY come soon. In fact, it's almost here. Uh-oh. It arrives VERY late and also not entirely hot. After waiting five years to return to our favorite Mexican restaurant - we do not live in Canada - we are, despite attempts, certainly disappointed. Dang. Feleena's has long been one of my favourite restaurants in Ottawa. Opened by the original owners of Mexicali Rosa's, the menu contains menu items from that long celebrated franchise, and some very nice additions such as Pechuga de Pollo, Carne Asada, and a recent fave, Tequila Shrimp Chile Relleno. Their Margaritas are the best I've ever tasted! Service is always wonderful. And the owners, Clyde and Annie are often on the premises, making sure everyone is happy. One of the cutest places I've been to in a while. The decor is a bit tacky, but it's fun, bright and eccentric. It doesn't feel like a super fancy restaurant at all and it feels fun for a casual space. My friends and I went there during a Thursday night and there were quite a few reservations but there was a lot of space throughout the restaurant. We were seated pretty quickly. It took a bit longer for the server to get to us for the drinks and food, so it was good that we weren't starving. We ordered 1 L of sangria and it was quite delicious. The server accidentally spilled it on the table (but she was nice and apologetic about it. It took about another 15 minutes before our server came back to take our order. I got the three enchilada special with chicken, beef and cheese with sides of roasted veggies and potato wedges. The enchiladas were delicious and had a bit of a spice/kick to them, but not that much. The veggies were a bit disappointing and I'm pretty sure they were cooked from the frozen packages. The wedges were roasted well, but I really wish I had had more since I only got 3 wedges with my whole order. It ended up coming to $20 for the small enchiladas, 3 wedges and veggies. For the quality of the side dishes as well as the quantity we received, the food could have been a bit less pricey. Overall though, the atmosphere was good, the server was nice and we had a good time sitting together. Would probably go back in the summertime just to sit on the patio. read more

I love the decorations in this place on a hot day it feels like Mexico. The food is either average or a bit above average and the price is a little bit on the high side 50$ for drink appetizer and main, for one. I was tempted to only give one star! Real talk: the host/owner claimed they have the best Mexican food in Ottawa... They said the guacamole was going to be the best guacamole I will ever have...bold statements!!! So of the bat the best guak of your life will not be in Ottawa... In trying to be the best you need to at least have fresh and ripe ingredients. But that is not their fault you can't get proper avacados in Canada. At least they could have made it fresh, the color should have been pale green not yellowy green. My strawberry daiquiri had no flavor and the ice was crushed too big that it was impossible to drink thru the straw. Fish tacos were ok but the portions were small and empty. Side salad was not as pictured to be. The best part of the meal was the relish like hot sauce. The Mexican Flag was ok. The cheese was tough and boring. The 3 enchilada were small in size with very little meat. Everything was spread to look like the plates were full but portions were small - beans and rice. Not worth the $$. I'd always wanted to try this place because I love (Tex) Mexican food and it looked like a cute place from the outside. I was in the area on a Friday and I met a friend there on a whim, before the dinner rush. The dining room was pretty well empty but they weren't immediately sure they could give me a table for two. But they did. The server made suggestions for my friend's dietery restrictions, which was helpful, but later told us that our table was reserved in an hour. That made me feel really awkaward, considering the dining room was still rather empty. I got the impression that they put a lot of focus (preference?) on reservations, so that's my best advice off the bat... make a reservation. It's a small dining room so you might as well secure the experience. Food-wise, I enjoyed my enchilada, even if it wasn't piping hot. My friend really enjoyed her salad. The menu has a lot of variety, everything I could possibly want to order from a (Tex) Mexican joint. So that, plus the great atmosphere, will probably lure me back. read more

We enjoyed our Mexican food out on their festively decorated patio on a Sunday afternoon. As soon as we sat down, someone came and wiped down the already clean table, which was nice. Service was prompt and courteous and not overly attentive, which we liked - no hovering. We had chips and salsa to start - nice spicy salsa and fresh chips. We ordered chicken tacos and the beef tostada. Both came with rice, black beans and a corn salsa. The portions were very generous and the food was quite tasty. I'd go back. First time at Feleena's, and after waiting in line for about 15-20 minutes, we were seated in the most awkward spot, next to the partition in the middle of the room. Servers passed by me quickly throughout the meal, and I was afraid that if I moved an inch or two in the wrong direction I would get swiped. A large table of people were seated behind us, drunk and rowdy, and we could barely hear each other talk. The place was busy for dinner and we only saw the waitress a couple of times to clear our plates and give us our bill. We split the appetizer platter to start. It came with taquitos, flautas, and cheese quesadillas, a bit of corn salsa, and mild salsa, salsa verde, sour cream, and guacamole. Quite a bit of food, but not very flavorful without the sauces. I ordered the Mexican Combo with a chicken enchilada and tamale with potatoes and vegetables. The roast potatoes were good, the vegetables just steamed and unseasoned. I enjoyed the simple corn salsa, which actually didn't have any dressing but had a very fresh flavor left raw. The chicken breast in the enchilada was overcooked and dry, but the sauce helped. My favorite was probably the tamale, which was very moist and tasted better with the sauce as well. Overall, our food and experience were OK. I was a little disappointed, considering the reviews I read/recommendations I received from others. I've been to better Mexican restaurants in the city. read more

I was taken to this place by a co-worker who frequents this place often. As a starter we ordered nachos. As well we asked for their homemade guacamole. The guacamole was excellent and worth the additional charge. The nachos were ho-hum. Basically nacho chips with white cheese and a ribbon of salsa. No onions, jalapeños or peppers. To be honest, I didn't check the menu to see if these were even add-ons. However, may be authentic nachos don't have such frills. But we ate then anyway. Next we ordered double fajitas with steak and chicken. The fare was decent although I did find the wait a bit long between the starter and the main. The tortillas were enough for each of us to have our fill and the toppings were decent for a double order. Personally I found the steak better than the chicken. You could tell a lot of effort went in to the decorations. The chairs were hand painted and the walls adorned with Art. I suggested to my friend when she visits Toronto, I will take her to my favourite Mexican restaurant. read more

The food and service here was amazing I was amazed that they were able to get a reservation for 12 so last minute! Thank you so much for accomodating our large group! We were all greated upon arrival and seted at our table we all ordered drinks and food and when the food came out it was pretty amazing that we all got our food at pretty much the same time. Everything tasted delicious and we were all full. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the decorations was happy and light! It seemed like the restaurants are owned and run by a group of close friends who were passionage about their business and it was seen. Good food - terribly managed. We went to the patio today and there were lots of wasps. I asked if they had fly swatters to get rid of them and the server said no but they put sugar water in the middle of the patio to distract the wasps from the tables. I asked if the traps had lids and he said they're not traps they're just there to distract the wasps. ... They planned and intentionally put wasp attractants in the middle of the patio so that the wasps would fly in through diners at tables to the middle of the patio and then out again. We asked for plates to go in case the wasps were too much and ordered. Here's where it gets real bad. My friend gave her allergy list to the waiter. She's very allergic to beans and asked / made sure it's ok to have a safe meal there. He said it was safe. Food comes out and we start eating and my friend almost bites into a bean. She immediately takes a couple benadryl and shows me how to use her epi pen in case she accidently consumed something she shouldn't. It looks like there are 2 people working there. I get the older gentleman's attention and explained that my friend was almost sent to the hospital and I asked how this could happen and what their allergy protocol is. He said he's very sorry and it was an honest mistake. I said an honest mistake is when you spill a drink on someone. What happened was very dangerous and I asked again what their allergy policy is. He said would you like to talk to the cook, he's having a bad day. I said yes! I could have had to epi pen my friend. I'd like to know how this happened and if we could ever take her there again. He said the cook's busy and said he just works at the bar. They comped her meal. Nobody took responsibility for what happened. It was just a lackadaisical response to what could have been a very serious medical incident. A better managed restaurant would have taken down our information so that the manager / owner / chef could call and apologize, explain how it happened, and what steps they're taking so they don't hurt someone else who has a serious food allergy. I really don't feel good bashing a good restaurant but their response almost killing my friend was "honest mistake". Mistakes do happen, but serious ones should be dealt with seriously and this was brushed aside. Finding good Mexican food in Ottawa is about as easy as finding a moose in Mexico City. I hate to play the naysayer to the glowing reviews but Feelena's food is mediocre and expensive. The patio is nice but the overpriced, poor quality sangria doesn't exactly invite one to want to spend much time on it. Though the place bills itself as a "taste of old Mexico," like most Mexican restaurants around here, it's really "a taste of Tex-Mex," with horrible concoctions like the chimichanga (you know the Texan innovation on the burrito - stick it in a deep-fryer) littering the menu. The only passable Mexican food I've had in Ottawa is Ahora. And if I needed any further incentives not to want to go back there, their new "electronic menu" displayed on Bank proudly boasts a photograph of Stephen Harper eating there. Ugh. read more

A group of four of us dined here last night. I had the fish tacos and our two friends had the chicken chimichanga. The portions are generous and the service was prompt, but I have to say the food was mediocre. The fish tacos came two to a serving and were dressed with coleslaw and some dill-based dressing. Had I known it was dill I would have requested it off. The fish was tough, not light and crispy and flaky like El Camino, who I consider to have the best fish tacos in town. The black beans were a good side, nicely seasoned with cumin and not too salty. My friends seemed to like their chimichangas. They were covered in sauce and came with salad and black beans. Feleena's has one of my favourite patios in the Glebe and their food is 5x better than the bland fare they serve at Mexicali Rosa's down the street. Their menu features many traditional Mexican dishes, plus some of the usual stuff like nachos. There has only been one time when I didn't love my meal here and it was when they vegetarianized a quesadilla for me, but forgot to add much of anything other than some green and red peppers. Otherwise, everything I've eaten here has been delicious. The indoor decor and ambiance is very cozy, but honestly I only come once the patio opens up. Took the family to Feleena's this past Friday night. Didn't have a reservation, but I would recommend you make one. The place is popular and really fills up. I was early, but they sat me anyway and the hospitality was appreciated. The decor is warm and inviting and meets the usual expectations of a nice Mexican restaurant. The menu is a simple mix of traditional Mexican fare...Feleena's isn't trying to reinvent the wheel with so called Mexican fusion cuisine and I commend them for that. My daughter and I split the beef fajitas and my wife had the chicken tamale. The fajitas were nice. The beef was tender and simply spiced and the flour tortillas were of good quality. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her tamale, especially the verde sauce on top. My only knock on Feleena's is the prices. I'm accustomed to getting similar Mexican cuisine in the U.S. for about 25% less money across the board, but this appears to be standard for Ottawa restaurants and is likely a result of local food costs. I would also point out that there is no kid's menu that is of better value for small appetites, but with Mexican cuisine, that can be solved easily by sharing plates. Overall, Feleena's offers an enjoyable meal in a beautiful space with warm, attentive service. When craving simple and hearty Mexican flavors, Feleena's delivers a terrific experience. read more

This place has the trio of food, atmosphere and service down. The food is delicious (I've had the enchilladas and fajitas). When the waiter heard I had only ever tried awful margaritas you get from frozen tubs, he convinced me to try one from their daily-made batch. Needless to say, I am not a big margarita fan! The service is friendly, fast and accommodating. They easily adapted meals to my wheat-free (corn tortillas) and dairy-free diet. The interior is just a lot of fun - each chair is different, everything is painted in bright colours, and there are fun decorations on the walls. All of this combined with very reasonable prices makes this a place I love to suggest for friends and family to meet, eat and drink! read more
