The people were dressed casually and to be fair, you cannot dress with anything you don't want to get stained since the food is literally placed on the actual table and some things like the corn on the cob, squirts out!That was quite interesting and different but we had our own bowl of rice dumped in front of us. They give us bibs and rubber gloves and you definitely need them! The waitress forgot our water and she wasn't very personable..... at all. She was likely stressed out since it was extremely busy. It's OVERLY crowded there with extremely narrow places to walk between tables and seats so you really need to keep that in mind especially if you're in a wheelchair and if you are, you're definitely not getting past any table to get to your seat. I got the mussels and shrimp. I ordered the non-spicy specifically so that I could share it with my daughter. I normally order a medium. Unfortunately, it was definitely a "mild". There was definitely some spice to it and it was tough for my daughter to eat. We also ordered the calamari. The batter was definitely a lot thicker and different than we remembered it to be. Unfortunately, it was not as good as we remembered it to be. They also served it with ketchup? We got a container of ketchup. We were also disappointed to not get any utensils or supplies. I had lunch at the Captain's Boil and overall it was good. My main complaint is that the food was really oily. When I mentioned this to my server after the meal, she told me that I can always ask for no oil, because they pour oil into the boil. I wish I had known this before ordering! I got the Sizzling Plate ($12) which comes with 2 clams, 2 mussels, 2 crawfish, 2 shrimp, and your choice of teriyaki chicken or teriyaki basa (I choose the fish, but in retrospect, should have had the chicken). It also comes with a mound of white rice. This plate is only available before 4pm. The mussels were huge. Clams were normal sized. The shrimp and crawfish still had their shells on and the head and legs were still attached. This made for a messy and slightly creepy eating experience, lol. The pieces of fish (I got 6) were battered and deep fried and were extremely oily. In fact, everything in the boil was really oily. I believe that the chicken is not battered nor fried. I think I would have enjoyed this option better. Nonetheless, the flavour of the sauce (I got mild) was good, albeit too salty for my liking. The rice was satisfactory, no complaints there. I like how the meal is served on a hot plate, so your meal stays hot the entire time. It comes with a warning label that the plate is over 200 degrees Celsius and to be careful. Service was excellent. Brooke was my server and she was a doll. Very friendly and so attentive. There was a man there too, who looked to be the owner or at the least a manager or supervisor, and he too was very nice. He brought out my meal and told me what everything was and warned me about the temperature of the plate. He also asked me if I wanted a water re-fill as soon as my cup was empty. Decor is fun nautical/marine theme. They have pictures of squid and clams on the walls. I like that there is a hand-washing station at the back of the restaurant near the bar, so you can wash your hands before and after your meal (it's away from the washroom, which is great for so many reasons, and there's no door that you have to open so you don't contaminate your freshly washed hands). I love this. I want every single restaurant to have this, lol. Their specialty is the seafood boil which is served in a plastic bag. You put on gloves and a bib and go to town. If this is not your jam, they have plenty of meals served on dishes to be eaten with utensils, so fear not. The Crab Cake Sliders and Soft Shell Crab Tacos (both come with Cajun fries) looked really good and I debated getting those instead of the Sizzling Plate. I would love to see some more vegetables on the menu, and some lighter fare (i.e. not deep-fried, or covered in mayo/sauce, or so oily/greasy). Most of the vegetables are add-ons to the boil; if you're not having a boil, the only vegetable is corn, which is not the healthiest of vegetables. There are no salads on the menu. If you're a vegetarian, I think the only thing you can eat is fries and garlic bread, and I guess the corn if you have it without the fried lobster bits that are usually sprinkled on top. The Captain's Boil is not for those on a diet, lol. This place would get 5 stars from me if the food wasn't so oily and salty, and if they had more vegetables and healthier options (like maybe some salads). I've wanted to try this place for quite some time. And I'm scrambling for words to describe it but wow. Such a different experience from your regular seafood joint. There's no utensils, they provide you with gloves and a bib and you dive it. It's all market priced but much more reasonable than what I was expecting. We got the sailors feast with shrimp, in the Captain Boils sauce - medium and it was fantastic. Way too much food for two people but I'm not complaining about it . We had the opportunity to try several dishes and they were all great. The restaurant was very busy on a Saturday, and now I understand why. Alrighty definitely a fun place to go eat.. it's a whole experience! You get ur apron , the gloves and a big bucket to put ur shellfish in! So basically you pick ur shellfish, ur sides, ur spices and it all comes in a plastic (biodegradable) bag. They also thankfully had fish and chips and chicken tenders for the little ones! My husband and I were so randomly passing by and wanted to try it. Since we used to have two same restaurants in Montreal, and both of them were closed permanently. We saw the daily special board outside the restaurant, and that's probably one of the reasons too. Sunday special is that the shrimp, mussel and clam are 12$ per pound( instead of 14$). We had two pounds. One with Cajun mild and the other house special sauce with medium heat. I added lotus root for 5$. I think it's so worthy. A lot of them and the texture was wonderful. For the sauce, I like the Cajun mild better. Too much heat will cover the taste of seafood I believe. The corn sucked a lot of oil but it's essential in the dish. We also had a calamari 3some. Well, I really enjoyed my experience tonight. The restaurant was a bit understaffed for how busy it was but once we got our food, it was all forgotten. I went with my parents and wasn't sure how they would react to getting their food in plastic bag but everyone had fun. We ordered the main combo: three seafood, fried rice, Cajun fries, Alaskan crab legs, and pops. It's well set up with a bucket to dispose of shells and with scissors to cut up the shell. The flavours were nice (we tried the Captain's Boil sauce on the mussels, clams and shrimp combo and garlic butter on the Alaska crab legs). You can adjust the level of spiciness and have a choice of 4 sauces: Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter or Captain's Boil (i.e., all 3 mixed together). I also ordered a steamed corn and it was really fresh. The fried rice was full of shrimps and scallops. My daughter ordered a fish and chips for kids and loved it. We will be back. read more

With the number of my check-ins here, clearly I love it this place. I usually always get the shrimp in Captain's boil sauce in fire with a corn and extra sauce (about $15). And then we usually order Cajun fries and steamed rice for the table. Couple of pointers- If you think fire spice is not fiery for you, they have another spic level called volcano which is not in the menu but you can ask for it. But mind you, it really is something! You can also ask them to not add oil in the bag if you prefer a slightly healthier version. I personally don't mind the oil. It's like ordering Diet Coke with a greasy burger - it's not helping anyone. This location also has daily specials. My personal favourite is the Wednesday deal which is half price on a 1 pound bag with a purchase of a pint of beer ($6.50) or two non alcoholic beverages ($5). We went for this on a Wednesday night and at the time, they had another deal on top of this - a free pound if your bill is above $40 before tax. The service is always great here. I must admit, when I first heard of Captain's Boil, I was worried to think how much I would be paying to leave satisfied. We went in for a random lunch on the weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. For lunch on a weekend, the place was busy but not crazy, we were able to get a table very quickly. The waitress was very helpful, and after learning that it was our first time, she made sure to explain the menu. I ordered the calamari 3-ways, and 1lb mixed bag (shrimp, clams and mussels) with fire garlic butter and potatoes. I was not disappointed in the size of the bag or their description of 'fire' sauce, it was surprisingly hot! The calamari was very good, and the food came out quick. Ohh the mussels!!! They were enormous. I also got lotus root which was excellent. Very large portions. But hella messy! Wear something you don't care about. In terms of flavour, the spice mix they use for the "captains boil" was perfectly spicy. Reminded me a bit of Kerala fish masala. read more

Horrible!!! Everything is served in a plastic bag and you eat with plastic bag gloves. Seems odd for a few reasons. 1 - it's not cooked in the bag so why bother transferring it to a bag. 2 - in this day and age where most people and restaurants are more conscious about their waste and carbon footprint, how could a seafood restaurant happily contribute disposable plastics into landfills and eventually the ocean..therefore effecting their menu supply. It's a great place to go if you are into fresh seafood. They have various sauces and tastes to choose from, so my friend, who loves spicy food, and me, who can't take as much spice but still remained friend with her, both get to satisfy our need. Was our first time on a recommendation. Was as messy as all reviews state but in a good way - the novelty. Had the shrimp served in a bowl as didn't care for the bag idea. What really made the experience worthwhile was our server, Dija, who took the time to explain the menu, asked what our seafood passions are and told us of the Wednesday night special. She knew to hold the order of snow crab, thank goodness cause once we had the huge shrimp; we were full. It was awkward using the one size fits all gloves, so took them off and got hands covered in sauce. Good thing they have a big sink, soap pump and absorbent paper towel in the far corner of the dining area. The dining area was clean, lots to look at and very friendly staff. Went with my husband and 2 toddlers. We were excited to go. But were disappointed after the dinner. Our waitress was awesome, other waitress girls were too busy standing behind the bar and talking to each other. Dungeness crab were great, shrimps and king crab legs are ok. but the captain boil seasoning mixture is bland and isn't really that tasty. They used butter to fry the rice even my toddlers won't eat it. They used disposable bowls cups, spoons, bags for seafoods, which we didn't like. Aight so Captain's Boil is overall brazy and overall delicious good food. But before y'all come here, be prepared for a dining experience, not just a regular dinner. The entire creole experience can be overwhelming for the regular diner, and the full bag can be lots of food. First time at your restaurant this evening and it was by far the worst experience. We were in Halifax for the past week and enjoyed many lobsters rolls. Looking forward to a lobster roll tonight only to find it was lobster paste with a piece of lettuce and shredded cheese. It was the most discusting/disappointment meal. The waitress did replace it with 1 lb of shrimp which were equally as distasteful. I brought most of them home and they ended up in the garbage. Won't be returning. Our first and last visit. My dinner was plopped in front of me in a plastic bag! Our drinks served in paper cups! No proper utensils! A large Slop bucket plopped in the middle of the table. Craving shrimp so we decided to give this new location a try. Sauce was still lacking compared to the Toronto locations but I didn't expect much after visiting the Elgin location last year. All was well except...I found a raw shrimp in my bag. I took off the head and found a semi translucent shrimp...I didn't think much of it, I thought it was the sauce or something but when I bit into it it felt like I bit into a raw octopus. It was the fishiest thing I've ever had. I really did not expect a half cooked shrimp in my bag...You think if they boil shrimp they should be able to boil then all right??? After all this white shrimp is definitely not sashimi grade and not sashimi sweet shrimp. Not to mention what kind of parasites could be in there. Confused and traumatized I flagged the waitress down. She was very apologetic and offered to cook me a new batch. I continued searching through my bag and found another shrimp that was half cooked. I told her again and she promised the new batch will be fine. So that was two shrimp in one bag that were almost raw. How does this pass food safety?? Especially in a seafood restaurant?? We were very interested when we saw this place and had to try it out. The only word that comes to mind is disappointment. My wife ordered a Lobster Roll and I had Fish & Chips. Both were bad choices. The Lobster Roll didn't have much Lobster and the Fish & Chips tasted like it had been frozen for a long time before it was served. It had no taste. The Tarter Sauce that was served with the Fish & Chips was awful. We both enjoyed a nice glass of lukewarm water to drink with our meal. I loved the Captain's boil sauce. The flavour is absolutely amazing! Okra and lotus root great additions to the main seafood. Also, I recommend the Cajun seafood rice. My new favourite fried rice. The calamari are actually sticks instead of rings, but once again, very very good; especially with the ranch sauce. It was interesting and a fun experience eating off of a huge sheet of paper with plastic gloves. There is a big sink near the back where people can wash their hands which is kinda nice too.
