After visiting Lafayette for 33 years, I have passed Poseidon's countless times and finally decided to try it after seeing their posts in the Foodies of Lafayette Facebook group. Every dish looked incredible. I made a reservation for Friday night during Valentine's and Mardi Gras weekend. The restaurant was festive and beautifully decorated. I appreciated walking in and seeing a table with my name on it. We were greeted with water right away, but then waited about ten minutes before receiving further service. It felt like many of the other tables were regulars and we were slightly overlooked until a gentleman, likely the owner or chef, stopped by to check on us. After that, service improved significantly. The food was excellent. I ordered the grouper over spinach with a side of pasta topped with chili shrimp, and it was outstanding. The lamb chops ordered at our table were tender and perfectly cooked. The Greek meatballs and my gimlet cocktail were also very good. Once service picked up, everything was smooth. The food alone makes it worth the visit. read more

This place is always a good choice for lunch. The place is clean and the service was friendly & fast. The steak salad was fresh but I didn't particularly care for the steak's texture. It had a coating or maybe tenderized too long??? I really don't know & My son liked it so it was just a personal preference. The lentil bean soup was flavorful & the perfect portion. Poseidon's is tucked into a dated shopping center and could easily be overlooked, which would be a shame because the food is next level outstanding. The octopus is excellent when available - call ahead and they can make it happen. Poseidon's hummus is one of the best around. The calamari is crisp and tender. The moussaka is perfect comfort food. Don't sleep on the specials, either. The grouper with shrimp available on our last visit were super fresh and cooked perfectly. Portions are huge - plenty for leftovers- and prices are quite reasonable. Poseidon's decorates seasonally for holidays, which is fun. The service is friendly and helpful. One thing that's great is that multiple servers will help your table. Any server passing by will notice your drink is low, and they'll fill it. Love this place! read more

This was the first time I have been to Poseidon but will definitely not be my last. This place is truly a hidden gem. The food was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was festively decorated for Christmas. I ordered the special, which was the chicken pasta. It was creamy with delicious bursts of a sun dried tomatoes. My son had a gyro warp which was also wonderful with delicious homemade fries. BUT the best thing of all was the spectacular calamari that we ordered as an appetizer. To finish off the amazing meal we shared a baklava that was so good it was a cherry on top of a perfect meal. Our waitress was nice and very patient with us, since it was our first time here. Overall I would highly recommend Poseidon to anyone. We can not wait to go back and try other yummy dishes. read more

The atmosphere was good and staff polite, and the food tasted good, but my food looked as though it had set under a heat lamp for a long time. Edges were hard and meat was dry. Had it been moist and freshly served, it would have been an excellent meal. read more

Had the veal chops with chicken pasta and it was outstanding. The salad was also good. Enjoyed a couple of the Greek beers which were very tasty. With the 30th anniversary celebration going on all of the decorations make the place look pretty festive. The service was also excellent with my waitress offering several suggestions which turned out all spot on. Excellent experience and I will be excited to try them again when back in town. read more

When in Lafayette and trying to forgo the obvious Cajun foods, stop in to Poseidon's for an excellent take on Greek deliciousness. Grab yourself a meat pie for an appetizer, I chose the Gyro and Chicken Shawarma combo with the side Greek Salad. The service was a treat as everything was hot and fast. And don't let the fact that it's in a strip mall scare you, it is well worth the visit. read more

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. This place reminds me of Cheers. It's an old tv show kids. Look it up kids. The food is out of this world. I highly recommend the lamb chops and pasta. It's mouth watering just typing this. I refuse to get anything else because that's how obsessed I am with this dish. The lamb is cooked a perfect medium rare. It's so juicy and succulent. I will naw on the bone afterwards. Don't judge. The pasta is al dente and so creamy. The only reason I try other dishes is because my wife orders them lol. If you decide to go against my advice, which you shouldn't, but if you do - you can't go wrong with the moussaka, spanakopita, and I can't forget about the gyro. I must say, the food was delicious! I ordered lamb chops because they don't have the leg of lamb that day. (Or do they ever have it?) the Chops were tender and flavorful. Ordered Poseidon plate to try different samples of their menu and everything on that plate/container (take out) was delicious! The service was fast, the place was packed on a lunch hour. The decors were fun and cool. Will definitely go back and maybe dine there instead of take out. The only issue was the hummus came in two small sauce containers with a lb of sliced pita. Tip: order your meat medium rare if you want it medium, which I did and was right on! read more

I don't get here nearly enough because it is way on the other side of town from my office but if I worked in the area I would be here every damn day for lunch. Poseidon's is casual but fancy enough to bring a date and if you're looking to score major points order the moussaka. This place has the best moussaka in town, hands down. I've tried all the Greek restaurants in Lafayette and trust me. The moussaka here is where it's at. I ordered the chicken platter also which was the lunch special and I loved the spicy pita and my salad. The chicken was tender and not dry and served over a bed of rice. You get beaucoup food for a great price. If you're in the area definitely give Poseidon's a go. Did I mention the moussaka? Order that for sure. You'll thank me. And you are welcome. read more

The service was poor. I had a Gyro sandwich and I had to ask for the signature sauce that makes the sandwich also I only had à la cart and I'm sorry 16+ dollars and I felt generous so I left a tip out of guilt. I will never go back there. The sandwich was OK . read more

Disappointing...we went for dinner. Split the combo plate of chicken shawarma and gyros. The portions were very small. We left hungry. The restaurant was not busy and the staff/server was not attentive at all. Won't go back. read more

I ordered the shrimp they were cooked nicely however the bed of rice they sat on was cold. The chicken shawarma Wasn't your typical thin slice but chunks of chicken and were dried out. I probably wouldn't eat here again. read more

At first i thought the baklava would not be much as it looked flat, it was actually very tasty and moist! I was in Lafayette for two days on business. I went to Poseidon the first evening and returned the next evening because it was so good! On the first night, I had a Greek salad with salmon, cabbage rolls for an appetizer, the lentil soup, and the baklava à la mode for dessert. Everything was outstanding. On the second night, I had the lamb chops, an appetizer sampler, and the baklava à la mode again for dessert. And again the meal was incredible. A few high points were how perfectly cooked the lamb chops were, the wonderful flavor of the lentil soup. The baklava à la mode is a must have. They serve it warm with ice cream, which is so creative and delicious. This is a family own/run restaurant that is overflowing with authentic warmth and courtesy. The service was outstanding, attentive, and friendly. If I am back in Lafayette, I will definitely be returning to Poseidon. Here are a few pics from my meal. read more

Strange place. Really, in 10 minutes I had the Greek salad, the Haloumi cheese AND the main course (gyros platter) in front of me. The waitress said, " they are quick today"! Duhh yes, indeed. I had two choices, send it back or eat it quickly, whilst still warm. I decided for the last one and get out of there ASAP. Total time spent, 20 minutes. Never again. If you lived in Greece or Cyprus you will find that all the food is freshly cooked with olive oil, garlic, lots of lemon, oregano etc. We make everything fresh daily. All my recipes come mostly from my mother, grandmother, friends and family. Some of our specialties include Mousaka, spanakopita, dolmades, fasolaki, cabbage rolls, souvlaki, gyro, leg of lamb and Greek salads. If there is a dish you tasted in Greece call us ahead and we will make it for you.

When you want authentic Greek cuisine in the Acadiana area, you head to Poseidon's Greek Restaurant. Poseidon's has been sharing authentic Greek dishes with locals since 1994. The restaurant is owned and operated by Aristos Anastassiades, who comes from the island of Cyprus near the coast of Greece. The restaurant is known for consistent and attentive service and a great atmosphere. If you want to experience delectable, authentic Greek cuisine with prices that are friendly to your pocketbook, take a trip to Poseidon's. The most difficult part of dining at Poseidon's is to narrow down your menu options. The lunch menu features a handful of customer favorites, including the Mousaka or Gyro platter, Chili Shrimp over Rice, or the Salmon or Tilapia served over rice. The appetizer menu features many classic Greek favorites, including Mousaka, Spanakopita, Tzatziki and Dolmades. Anastassiades believes that the secret to a successful restaurant is having the owner around, doing the cooking himself, and seeing to it that only fresh meats and vegetables are served. I got no response from her, and as I walked out the door at least the other gentleman in the back said thank you. I know it may be tough to try to find good help but at least train them to have some type of customer service.

I really enjoyed the seasoning on the chicken and what really won me over was the char. This meat was freshly sliced off the pit and not sitting in a pot waiting to be served and losing its freshness.
