Poseidon's Greek Restaurant boasts some of the most authentic, delicious Greek cuisine in the Lafayette area. As with most things, there are some flaws, but I still think this place is worth a visit. First of all, this restaurant has my favorite Halloumi cheese in town, hands down. Do yourself a favor and try it; you will not regret it. Thick chunks of this cheese are grilled (yes, you can grill this amazing, brined cheese) and served with tomatoes, and if you get the Halloumi wrap, the pita bread is grilled as well. My suggestion? Take a chance and try the Saganaki (lightly breaded and flambeed Halloumi). Their Moussaka is nothing short of amazing, too. Other notable eats include the Lamb Gyro Platter, Spanakopita & Tyropita. A few warnings: The parking lot is a little difficult to get in and out of during the lunch rush. If you are on a budget, things can get a little pricey (for example, their Veggie Platter), but you get what you pay for when you consider the quality. Also, their Hummus is not great & their french fries are absolutely WRETCHED. If you're looking for a good lentil soup in Lafayette, Athena's is better and comes free with your meal. Overall, I'd recommend Poseidon's as a delicious Greek dining option, depending on what your priorities are...just skip the French Fries. read more

As of yesterday, I will unfortunately need to update my review for this restaurant. My main purchase from this place is the poseidon's platter. Over the years, it has been a bit inconsistent in portions and quality of the different food added to it. When I purchased it last night, there were some issues I had. The spanakopita was greasy and falling apart in a not so appealing way. Their stuffed grape leaves were good. A new ingredient appeared which were Greek potatoes. They looked tasty, but I was in for a shock. They were sour. I did a bit of research online to find that the Greek do have an olive oil and lemon drizzled potato in their meals, which these were it. But these were SOUR, like if you were to turn a potato into a warhead. I definitely wasn't expecting this because I had not seen them included before. This type of food is not for me and maybe for others. Their gyro was dry and hard on the outside and their pita tasted a bit stale. The hummus was decent but lacking flavor a bit. The lentil soup however was good. The Mousaka would have been good too, however it was cold and the seeds from the eggplant were actually like sand. So, out of the whole plate (which was ~$17), the grape leaves and the lentil soup were decent. Overall, I think my few times a year trips to eat here will become less frequent. read more

Took a trip down to Lafayette from mandeville for a fashion show and was looking for somewhere unique to eat, saw this place on the map and had to give it a try. After reading all of the above reviews I almost didn't give this place a chance. Boy am I glad I did! Absolute best Greek food I've ever had. The Greek salad is AMAZING!! Service was nice- the waitresses (yes two) were extremely accommodating. I have no complaints about anything. Definitely try the humus with spicy pita bread. After years of saying I will try this place. I finally decided to give it a try after getting back home from work trip in New Orleans. I ordered the gyro and chicken shwarma which came with rice pilaf and a chicken and sausage gumbo. Also ordered two spanakopita pies. Overall this was an okay meal the best part of it was the watery gumbo. Although it was light in color it was actually pretty flavorful. Definitely had better Greek food at other restaurants. I really liked this place. They have some really good Mediterranean cuisine over here. My friend and I were going to try T-Coons but they were closed so we just walked in here. My friend and I both love us some Greek food, and Baton Rouge has some of the best in the country. I was excited to give it a try because I had heard it was good. We ordered a plate of grape leaves for starters. They were interesting. They had an herb or spice inside of them that I couldn't place, but it gave them a good flavor. I would definitely order them again. Also they were the hugest grape leaves I've ever seen. We both ordered the combination platter which consists of pork souvlaki, gyro meat, and chicken shawarma. It also comes with a soup or salad. We both went with the salad. The salad was a good Greek salad. It had a vinegar based dressing and wasn't as heavy as some of the dressings on some places feta salads. My only complaint about it was that it had too many tomatoes. The combination plate was also excellent. I was surprised that it was just meat and did not come with a side of hummus, but it was good enough on its own that it didn't matter. The souvlaki was amazing. The chicken shawarma was not like any shawarma I have ever seen(I don't think it was cooked on one of those auto-donner machines), it was more like marinated chicken breast. It was still excellent and it was actually very juicy unlike most shawarma. The gyro tasted like any other Grecian Delight style gyro I've ever had. Poseidon gets four stars for me due to the fact that it's in Lafayette and it's the best Greek in Lafayette. If it was Baton Rouge I'd give it three stars, as it can't compete with Albasha's, but it's still very good. I will definitely be back. read more

If you are looking for the best Greek food in the south west region of Louisiana then look no further than Poseidons. You won't find a more fun atmosphere coupled with some great food. I highly recommend the coffee brisket or cabbage rolls. The owner is an outstanding man and adds a nice dynamic to the restaurant with his fun personality. Every time I go, he is seen talking with the customers and makes sure everyone gets the best experience they can while dining there. The food and atmosphere here were fantastic, I'd never had any Greek food before and decided to try something new. I came in and simply said to surprise me. Well... it was food. I hate the fact that my last dinner in Lafayette was spent on this place but you win some you lose some. I ordered the chicken schwarma and gyro platter. I had the lentil soup along with it. The soup was good and the gyro meat was really tasty. However the chicken was dried out and served on a bed of cold rice...not to mention there was no flavor to it. I did show up at 8:30 and apparently they closed at 900, so maybe this was retribution from the kitchen staff. You live and learn but my advice would be to skip this place, there are so many other great options in this town! read more

I travel a lot and this was the best Greek/Lebanese restaurant I've ever eaten at. A surprise for Lafayette! Everything was fresh and had their own unique brand of flavoring. This is a great little Greek place! I ended up getting the gyro platter as a lunch special ($10), and I was surprised to see the amount of food it came with. As someone who has been to Greece and Cyprus, I can say that the food is very authentic! I also had the opportunity to practice my Greek with the owner, Aristos, who was very friendly. I have liked everything I've had here, and I've literally had pretty much the whole menu over the years. If you add the Facebook page you can see all the specials the owner comes up with-that's the good stuff. This is the only authentic Greek in Lafayette. Other places are run by other nationalities and are not Greek. The wine selection is good, I recommend the Greek wines of course, Nemea and Santorini. Hummus is awesome, I like it with the spicy white pita. Spanakopita is another favorite along with the lamb chops. read more

A great little spot at the corner of Kaliste and Pinhook, and i do mean little. You could fit the whole place into one of my shoe boxes. However, I think that is part of its charm. It is small, sparse of decor - with the exception of one wall lined with Greek statuary, staffed by really friendly people and serving good food. That is a good combo in my book. Went here this evening for dinner, and we were the only ones in the restaurant side of the room (the bar side had about a half dozen regulars.) We were greeted warmly by out waitress/hostess/server, a friendly young woman who is attending UL for her degree in journalism and hopes to spend the year after graduation traveling the world (I told you the room was small, I heard all of that from across it). We decided to get a sampling of their food in a convenient combo plate featuring a traditional Greek salad, a stuffed meat pie and a large piece of Spanakopita. Each item was delicious and the three worked beautifully together. The spice of the meat pie was cooled but the fresh crisp taste of the salad which in turn was warmed by the flaky Spanakopita. It was a perfect amount of food, and very reasonably priced. I inquired with such good food why the room was empty and came to find out that this is a VERY popular lunch spot, but in the evenings it is populated by the regulars at the bar who come for a beverage and good company. Compared to Zues who seems to have a stranglehold on the Greek food in the area, even though it is really much more Turkish and Lebanese than it is Greek, Poseidon's has a cozy, friendly and very personal feeling and has much better food and prices to boot. Do yourself a favor and head on in, this place deserves just as many people at dinner as lunch. read more

This place has the most authentic Greek food around. I lived in Limassol Cyprus and the food here is identical.

The service was very good. I had the grape leaves, gumbo, and the Maza platter. All was outstanding. Also, the service was very good.

Had a wonderful lunch at this Greek gem. Order the sampler appetizer and you will get a sample of several of their main dishes. Especially liked the moussaka and spanakopita. Just wish we lived in the Lafayette area. If we did, Poseidons would be one of our main dining places. read more
