During the purchase process, we was encouraged to switch from my external lender to the builder's preferred lender in order to receive closing cost incentives. After making that change and moving toward closing, the lending terms changed significantly, including a new requirement for ~$60,000 additional down payment that had not been disclosed earlier. Because of this unexpected change, the loan was not approved, and I was unable to close on the home. Despite this, the company has retained a $22,000 deposit. What is most concerning is that requests to escalate the issue were declined and follow-up emails have not received a response. This situation could likely be resolved quickly with a fair review and reimbursement of the deposit, especially given that the lender change occurred after being advised to use the builder's lender. I hope David Weekley Homes will review this and contact me directly so we can resolve this promptly and fairly.
