Our room at Positano Art Hotel Pasitea.

Location, Location, Location!!! The Positano Art Hotel was the perfect hotel for our stay in Positano, Italy during May 2014. Our beautiful room, decorated in Mediterranean décor, offered breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Amalfi coast from our room's balcony and romantic jacuzzi tub. Other amenities in our room included a minibar, satellite tv, air conditioning, and free WIFI in the lobby. The continental breakfast included a nice array of Italian meats and cheeses, croissants, pastries, cereal and fruit. We could not have asked for a better location. Our hotel was a short walk from restaurants and shops. It was about a 15 minute walk to reach the beach at the bottom of the hill. TIP: We made the mistake of taking the stairs our first day in Positano. It is much easier to walk along the road instead. Those stairs can be brutal even if you are decent physical shape! If the road is too steep or you are in a hurry to get to the marina there is also a bus that makes the loop up and down the hill.

Positano Art Hotel Pasitea is a very cute hotel. Upon entering, the floor is a beautiful blue tile that immediately makes you feel like you have arrived on the Italian coast. The check-in is strictly at 3, so when we arrived at noon after a 3 and a half hour long car ride from Rome, it was a little bit of a bummer. The room had an amazing view and the hotel as a whole had a really cool vibe. The room itself was mostly white and very very cool, I truly felt like I was on the Amalfi coast! The staff was friendly and helpful when suggesting restaurants. A nice place to stay, I would recommend!

Fantastic hotel with very hospitable staff including Tony the owner who really goes out of your way to help book activities for you, comfy rooms (with a/c!), wifi and if you can get a room with an ocean view it's incredibly worth it! Yes it's pricey, but it also depends on what time of the year you go. You're also in the Amalfi Coast so be prepared to pay more anyway. Breakfast is at an additional cost/day but it's a hot breakfast with cooked eggs and meat, and fantastic cappuccinos as expected. It's 585 steps (the stairs are right in front) to get down to the private beach which is much less crowded than the larger one (Spaggia del Fornillo) which is also a further walk. That means it's that many steps to get back up and during the summer, it's a brutal hot walk! There's a bus shuttle that runs around town every 30 minutes so you can always catch that coming back up. Breathtaking view from our room's balcony. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/positano-art-hotel-pasitea-positano?select=JUJD-7CgjLaU1P3VF-tg9g A huge thanks to our Italian neighbor who recommended ending our honeymoon in Positano rather than Rome. It was definitely life changing and I'm feeling very nostalgic already!

Dash was an excellent server and very attentive. The snacks they gave with our cocktails were also delicious. The cocktails were good. Of note, in Italy, cocktails are just basic mixed drinks but they were still well made and tasted delicious so that's what matters. They also had an extensive cocktail list which was nice as most of the Amalfi Coast doesn't have an extensive cocktail list. The view here is gorgeous. It is a really nice romantic place or also just a place to watch the sky change colors as the sun goes down. It's a phenomenal view.

Service was top notch, the owners constantly said hi to every single one of their guests and everything was ...just magnificent. We dined at Il Tridente the first night and food was superb! Make sure you try their deliza limone! I will never forget my days here and Hotel Poseidon topped it off with a relaxing, beautiful and comfortable stay. They made us feel like family :)

This is a nice feature for any hotel, but in Positano it is an absolute life saver! The nearest street is a few flights up from the hotel entrance, so carrying heavy luggage down can be quite precarious. However, they have trained professionals ready and eager to help! I was amazed when they scooped up more luggage than I could carry alone over flat ground and easily traversed the steps to lead us to the hotel. Your first glimpse of Villa Magia is breathtaking. As you walk onto their courtyard, there are two beautiful trees and a flowerbed that overlook the cliff and the beachside of the city. Walking deeper in, you are met with a gorgeous terrace lined with vines and plenty of seating that overlooks the coast. It feels like walking into a postcard! This leads to the outer dining area for Luna, the hotel restaurant. Definitely try to eat here if it fits your schedule! The food is amazing, and the head waiter, Salvatore (Sal), was a joy to interact with. He will make wonderful suggestions and make you feel right at home. The staff at the front desk, just inside past the terrace, are also fantastic. They ameliorated every aspect of our stay, including providing us with an iPhone and messaging system via WhatsApp for 24-hour assistance. We worked primarily with Jada, who was amazing and so welcoming. When she found out we were planning a day trip to Capri, she not only reserved our tickets for us (which we found out later sold out, so we were lucky she had!), but also gave us her personal recommendations as she used to be a skipper for one of the boats. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and had absolutely amazing views. There were high ceilings and even built-in sauna! Our favorite parts were the sun room and the balcony garden. Every morning they would deliver breakfast to our room (which we had pre-selected the night before and sent via WhatsApp), and they would set it up wherever we liked. Our entire stay the staff made us feel like both family and royalty all at once. I absolutely cannot recommend Villa Magia enough. Hurry to make your reservation, because there are only 12 rooms on property! A one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to enhance your visit in beautiful Positano.

Extremely unsettling experience at the restaurant…read more The most serious issue: our table being photographed by male staff members appeared to be happening and was witnessed by multiple women at our table. The bartender and a bald male staff member stood behind the white swinging bar doors across from us, laughing and repeatedly looking at a phone aimed in our direction. One of them then raised the phone over the doors. After the meal, I directly asked the bartender whether he had taken a picture of our table. Instead of answering clearly, he repeatedly appeared to deliberately misunderstand ("Oh, you want a picture?"), then became visibly nervous when I corrected him: "No, I mean earlier, behind the door." He laughed and claimed it was "a picture of the view." This made no sense. It was already dark outside, the restaurant lights were bright enough to reflect the interior onto the windows, and the bar area was positioned somewhat far from the windows. More than half of our table was women. It was deeply uncomfortable and, frankly, disturbing. There were other disappointments as well. Our party of six was informed only after being seated that we were required to order an exotic tasting menu rather than being allowed to choose individual dishes. A young female server with glasses was polite and genuinely helpful in trying to work with the chef so our table could agree on a single menu, and she was one of the few positives of the evening. Even so, the final bill exceeded €1,000 for food that was merely average. There was also a simple request to have something served on the side that wasn't, but that was just a small mistake. The restaurant itself is visually beautiful. However, what strongly appeared to be photographing guests, followed by an evasive response when questioned directly, crossed a line that no atmosphere or presentation can make up for. Privacy and professionalism should never be optional at that price point.

How fitting it was when I got to stay here for a few days during my cousin's writer's workshop back…read morein March. I love how they continue to support writers. This was the workshop's 15th year. John Steinbeck once stayed here and wrote, "Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone." It really is a breathtaking, magical city that I was fortunate to visit. What makes it even more amazing is that it is owned by the Sersale family from Naples who have opened up their summer vacation home and turned it into a lovely hotel in 1951. They had purchased the adjacent building next door to expand. This hotel was also once a US Army rest resort. It is still a family operated hotel with some staff. Antonio, the co-owner and general manager was at the writer's workshop dinner, and his wife Carla does the gardening throughout and designs for the Emporio Sirenuse boutique store across the street. Famous celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Kylie Jenner have also stayed here. The rooms are a good size. We had a marble bathroom with huge bathtub and a small patio seating that had wooden lattice windows that opened to the pool/terrace overlooking the beach. I'm shocked about a Dyson hair dryer in its own box. The turn down service was so great. They laid out my sleep clothes, a small towel on the floor near the bed, slippers, a Baci chocolate (my fave), bottled water, turned down the lights and put music on the TV, and gave a card with the weather report for the next day. It was helpful! Positano was chilly and sometimes rainy mid March. Antonio, not the co-owner though same first name, was at the front and greeted us when we transferred from our AirBNB. He was the sweetest and helpful when I inquired about a tour to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Even when I left before the writer's workshop ended, he said I should stay. I really wished I could! I had already taken 3 days post spring break from work since I had been to Germany and was headed to London before going home. The spa was open to the writers and their +1s. After hiking Mt. Vesuvius, I got to sit and relax my muscles in the sauna, ice room, and did 2 dips in the cold plunge pool. The snacks and tea were great. I loved that there was a shower with Aveda products. The gym was also on the same floor. La Sponda restaurant at the hotel terrace area is a Michelin star. They're usually open for dinner, but they were closed because it was still considered winter and not open until the end of March or beginning April during peak season. We were fortunate to enjoy a cocktail hour prior to dinner at La Sponda specifically for the writer's workshop. They also served a buffet breakfast plus a la carte entrees for 2 days. I missed one day since I had my tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius in Naples and left early am before breakfast. I did take advantage the second day! Btw, you can also order in room service. I loved everything at Le Sirenuse from all the plants and flowers to the detailed decor, epic views, delicious food and friendly staff. This was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget.

These things factored into my decision to book my stay at Hotel Reginella but so did the photos and the stated distance (about 3/4 mile) from Spiaggia Grande, Positano's main beach. For about $355USD/night in May (breakfast included), you will find that Hotel Reginella: * is immaculate and charming; * has nice water views from the rooms; * features good AC; * staffs with extremely competent employees happy to give good restaurant recommendations, secure dinner reservations, schedule luggage porter service, and provide very helpful information for getting to the Path of the Gods; and * provides a wonderful in-room breakfast - delivered on your schedule - featuring your choice of protein, fruit, juices, breads, coffee, and sweets. Hotel Reginella sits among shops and restaurants and other hotels, on a road that's only minutes, by foot, from Poistano's main shopping area. Though the main beach is easily reached from this road, once you become a bit more comfortable, the stairs up and down (400+) are a more traditional way to get between locations. After the first night the stairs down were my route of choice. I remain 100% happy with my decision to book 3 nights at Positano's Hotel Reginella.
