Just went for Memorial Day weekend. My group and family had a wonderful time. The slip is nice and convenient. The store has all the essentials and great eats. The park has some good trails and the lake views are incredible. We stayed in cabin 3 and it got the job done for us. I would consider cabin 5 next time. Highly recommend . read more

The park is beautiful, mostly clean grounds, the showers were not very clean but it was 11pm on a Saturday night. We saw so many deer , a wild pig, skunk, a fox, and cardinals. The shop where the laundry room and boat rentals are has a vivacious staff. Theresa makes some delicious burgers and fries and has a great knowledge of the park and sense of humor! We will definitely be back hopefully sooner than later. For $30.00 of two nights of camping this price can't be beat! It's the middle of the night, and your officer, Shane Dunaway, just walked into my campsite with zero indication of who he was while his flashlight pointed in everyone's faces. Do you understand how serious that was? No warning of any kind. And his purpose for being there was because he heard music. So he walked into our campsite unannounced pointing his flashlight in everyone's face in the middle of the night. There was zero indication this man of the state was coming towards us in the dark. He walked into our site, turned on his flashlight, and then began saying we were suspicious of how confrontational we were. And he stayed and searched our belongings with his flashlight while looking for something to escalate things. Shane Dunaway needs some severe training because this cannot be acceptable. read more

Beautiful park with great view of the lake. We had fun kayaking here and enjoyed the sunset. Took off one star for the cabin we stayed in (#2). It could use some updates, the wind made the window pane shake and make really loud noises at night time. The grill was also not attached. The hiking trails were short but nice outlooks of the river! read more

Possum Kingdom State Park was a pretty place to go hiking. There are a few trails but they weren't easy! Longhorn and Lakeview Trail were steep but good ones. Also, campsite 10 would be the one I'd want to get as it was secluded and right by the water. Enjoyable place to relax! read more

Fantastic park, huge rv sites, lots of primitive camping and the lake is awesome, its huge. But make sure you top up with gas before you get here, nearest gas station is 20 miles away or you can pay lake prices at the park. There are at least 5 marinas on the lake with beer, gas, restaurant, pool tables etc. read more

We camped here in our trailer, and we had an awesome time! The lake is beautiful! Unfortunately, our spot was not level at all. It took a lot of work yo get it right. We would like to come back, but next time we will provably stay on the other side. The spots seemed more level there. Also, you may want to spray for bugs. We had a few infestations during our time. We bought some at the camp store. We loved that we could get lunch there too! read more

Possum Kingdom State Park is the third state park that we have stayed at on my inaugural trip through Texas. We camped here for three nights in March 2018. First, the good parts. The staff at Possum Kingdom SP were pleasant throughout the time that we spent here. The area itself is nice, and many campsites are right on the water. We were able to secure two adjacent campsites (we were here with family) that were only yards from the lake. The sites also all feature fire pits and picnic pavilions. Sites do vary in terms of size, space between adjacent sites, and how level they are. There are also a few hiking trails at the park. We hiked one (1.5 miles) and found it to be alright, though not particularly noteworthy. Unfortunately, the maintenance is sorely lacking at Possum Kingdom State Park. Maintenance has also been an issue at the other state parks that we have visited on this trip, but Possum Kingdom was by far the worst in this regard. The dumpster for our camping area was overflowing for the first two days that we were here, the laundromat at the camp store was locked up with all machines apparently out of service, the showers are designed without a private dressing area (think junior high locker rooms), one shower lacks even a bench, and the showers have no hot water. We asked a park worker about the water and they claimed the showers did in fact have hot water; however, we tried on three different occasions and the showers were always ice cold. Considering the cost of camping here, it is really inexcusable that the maintenance is this bad. We have stayed in a lot of state parks in other states that are comparably priced, but that have far better facilities with better maintenance. We have reservations at one more state park after Possum Kingdom, and if the facilities are not considerably better I doubt that I will ever stay at a Texas state park again. Verizon coverage bounces between 2-3 bars and is slow but usable, while AT&T coverage was only 1 bar and was not at all usable. read more

There were pros and con of Possum Kingdom Lake. The Lake was gorgeous and we caught a TON of fish at the fishing pier from sun fish to bass to catfish. The little park store has everything you could possibly need. The lower RV sites on the water are awesome. The RV sites higher up are nearly impossible to fit bigger rigs into, it was so hard to back into these spots. There were trails and planty of places to ride our bikes. The downside is that it is far away from any major towns so I would stok up ahead of time! The sunsets here are unmatchable. read more

So many hummingbirds! I came by for a short visit today and it was pleasantly empty. I was able to hear the water crashing gently on the shore, insects chirping, and the breeze blowing through the trees and grass. It. Was. Great. I'm thinking of getting a cabin for a couple of days and enjoying the sounds of the lake on an empty weekend soon. read more

Possum Kingdom State Park - Designated Swimming Area. - Parks Near Me - Caddo, Texas

We went tent camping here for a few nights, some of the best camp sites I have ever seen, most of them right on the lake with excellent views. We stayed at site 103 and it was a basic site with water, fire ring with grill grate, and picnic table. We not only had a gorgeous view of the lake, our site had direct access to hike down to the lake's edge where there's a cove. Plenty of trees for our hammock and our site was also close to the restroom/showers. Our site and the ones around us were amazing. It was hard to find a bad site honestly, and we walked around and looked at all of them. read more

Possum Kingdom State Park it's a great place to spend time with your family- friends. Restroom are always clean, they have showers with hot water, camping sites clean and well maintained. All the staff is friendly, they patrol the park all day and night to make sure everything is looking fine. Lake is clean but no lifeguard so make sure to keep an eye on your kids at all times. They have a little store inside the park but make sure you don't forget anything at home because the closes super market is an hour away from the park. read more

Possum Kingdom is a wonderful area! 2 hour drive from Dallas, about 1.5 hours from Cowtown. Out west past Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto. The lake is enormous and beautiful, lots of boats and lakehouses. *Hiking Trails are pretty good for this area of the country! Well-marked and not overly challenging, but there are some parts with decent inclines. The most fun I have here is renting a canoe from Rochelle's and doing either the one-day or the two-day trip down the Brazos just below the Possum Kingdom Dam. It is completely primitive--meaning you're on your own. For the 2-day, you'll have to camp somewhere along the river. There are plenty of awesome places and you'll definitely be communing with the raccoons and coyotes. Best of all, the whole area really looks like what you expect to see in West Texas--pretty cliffs and granite overhangs. Very "Texas" looking if you have out of town guests to impress. Finally, do yourself a favor and hit up Mary's Cafe in nearby Strawn, TX, for her legendary chicken friend steak!! You'll thank me! read more

The park was very well maintained. There was ample room between RV sites. The campground store was great and carried all essentials. The remote location was a little staggering. I knew how far out it was and checked my shopping list 3 times. It sucked so hard that I had to go into town. Gah!!! I also picked up a MRSA infection while I was there so extra pain on that experience. read more

This is a beautiful campground but the reservations with the park does not compare with other states who use Reserve America where you can reserve an actual site that accommodates a big rig. We had a late arrival this past weekend and as we suspected we got the last site available that would not fully accommodate our 5th wheel. I called the park and the state customer service the morning of our arrival and they both assured me this would not happen. We are not retired so when we go somewhere it is planned and we can not afford to have issues like this or it ruins the trip. read more

Good-Friendly rangers, well stocked convenience store, minnows. Not so good with large 5th wheel. Many of the parking spots have very low hanging limbs from the trees. Some of the approaches to parking spots impossible to park. And with reservation, they will not reserve particular spots. First come first serve. read more
