Our first night in Kauai we came here. It was really good. The meals aren't really shareable because the plates aren't very large. We got the duck and Brussel sprouts to share and a Caesar salad. The duck plate was delicious! 2 small pieces of duck but the flavor was so good. I recommend this plate. We also go the large Caesar salad and that was good for the both of us. Wow! What an amazing culinary experience! Starting with an excellent Tropical Mai Tai, followed by mouth watering hummus, crispy leeks and Marlin Tiraditos and finishing with a tasty Risotto with macadamia cream cheese! And although we thought we were not able to take one more bite, we still had the Chocolate Marquesa and mango sorbet for desert! Compliments to Chef Javier for a delicious dinner! The service provided by our hostess, Natalia and our server, Carly was top notch! We also had a very nice conversation with Merari about the restaurant's history and culture. Fantastic experience! A beautiful restored little plantain house made into a restaurant with attention to all the details. We were greeted and seated right away (had a reservation) and seated on the cozy back porch. Since they are famous for their Mai Tai's we started with that and oh WOW so very good. We split the Crispy Leak Salad and it was delicious. We then had the Coriander Crusted Ahi and that was superb, way over our expectations. Our server AJ was fantastic, attentive and friendly. They even had their own (better) version of a Mai Tai that didn't have all the unnecessary sweetness, but was still balanced! My snide comment was because the waitress was obviously not feeling us and when we asked questions about things, she kept repeating herself instead of explaining. The kale salad was also very disappointing.. there was a lot of interesting ingredients listed that weren't actually on it (like the starfish!). My wife and I dined at Postcards for our 8th Wedding Anniversary. We showed up on time for our 5:30pm reservation and were seated shortly thereafter. About 15 other people showed up shortly after us and some were sat on the patio. The inside is nice and cool, so I would recommend showing up a few minutes early to your reservation if you'd like to sit inside. Our server was very pleasant and recommended the Leek Salad, Wagyu Steak and Crusted Ahi. My wife opted for the Swordfish and I had the Wagyu, we split the Leek Salad. For drinks ordered an Old Fashioned and a "Take a Hike." The Leek Salad was incredible, refreshing and light. The Wagyu was very tender with a nice sauce but the mushrooms were a bit flavorless. I took my time with it and really savored every bite. It came with a mashed squash or sweet potato which paired well. My wife enjoyed the swordfish but preferred the Wagyu, which was really a large portion, so she had about 1/4 of it. The "Take a Hike" was light and refreshing but everyone else seemed to be drinking fine wine. My Old Fashioned was potent and paired EXCEPTIONALLY with the Wagyu. For desert, we had the Chevre Cheesecake and Valhrona Chocolate Marquesa. The cheesecake was delicious with the lilikoi. The Marquesa was interesting with a nutty crust that I thought was a bit overpowering. Overall, this was a fantastic meal, with everything rating at least an 8/10 and the Steak and Leek Salad rating an 11/10. The Cheesecake 10/10. read more

I have been to Postcards a few times. While the food is good (for the island), it is average compared to the mainland. My poor review is for service. I came for my birthday, it was not busy, and the food and drinks were taking FOREVER. I inquired with the waitress who has glasses (don't know her name) and she literally screamed at me to "just leave, just leave then!" I was so bewildered and shocked, we did. I should have said something back or talked to the manager. What a disgruntled a** to do that to a paying customer on vacation on their birthday. Won't be going back. Ambience is nice. read more

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, seeing this place as we were driving back from Tunnel Beach. It was absolutely DARLING (that's what attracted me!) but wasn't expecting much from the menu. We came in with a large group about an hour before closing, and they were extremely accommodating and got us in. We dined outside under the avocado tree, adorned by lively bistro lighting which illuminates the yard. What looks to be a beautifully renovated colonial home, the attention to detail extends beyond the decorations and to both the cocktail and food menu. The cocktail menu was authentically created, and our group ordered a variety of these drinks. Each carefully crafted and wonderfully presented. What's more is the EXQUISITE MENU. SO CREATIVE and THOUGHTFUL, meaning there's something for every eating need: vegan, gluten-free etc... Though the options aren't your bare minimum to check a box, they are designed to please and impress. You can tell that the chef's heart has gone into this. We ordered the signature crispy Leek salad and were not disappointed. Though as a vegetarian myself, I was thoroughly impressed by the nori wrapped tofu. Really good food! Delicious steak and tasty and fresh tasting sides and dessert. However, very expensive and limited menu with smaller sized plates. I expected more for my buck but that's how expensive restaurants go... plated pretty for justttttt enough to get your hunger sated but not too full. Along with my entre, I also had some appetizers that took me to full. They were all good, but if you're looking to fill up with your entre it may be best to go someplace else. But if expensive and good is your typa vibe, then this is the place to be. The servers were a bit rude and didn't really seem to want to do anything for us - including cleaning up a spill they made and getting silverware. But once we commented they made an effort to fill our waters, but I feel like that's expected at most restaurants with service in the US., but aight. read more

I really enjoyed the food as you can tell there was "love in the kitchen" in how the food was prepared and served. No steamer tables in their kitchen. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, and adjusted to my dietary needs. We went there twice during our week stay as the food was that incredible. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking with Alesia both nights and she made the experience so wonderful. We have been going to KAUIA and the Postcard Cafe for 10 years for our Anniversary Dinner. The food was always excellent but tonight it was nothing to write home about. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was tasty but drowned in sauce. Then we moved on to the salad which was more bean sprout than farm greens with a lovely dressing. Then we sat for over 50 minutes waiting for our entrees. I chose the scallops with the puree of carrots. And my husband had the Ahi Tuna which was slightly over done. He asked for the sauce on the side. My scallops were barely tan and the center was still under cooked and mushy. The waitress apologized three time for the tardiness of the kitchen. Her service was excellent but the kitchen was excessively slow and one dish was under cooked and the other overcooked. And there were maybe 12 tables in the entire restaurant. As we were waiting for our dinner we asked the waitress for some bread. She politely explained that "Chef doesn't believe in serving bread in his establishment." When asking questions about the choices of entrees we were told, "Chef is very particular and doesn't do any substitutions." Well Chef I believe that you need to something especially since there was only one other couple before us to be served entrees and we waited more than 50 minutes to be served our entrees and they were anything BUT EPIC. I asked the waitress for our check when they finally brought our dinners out. The hostess brought our check she became offended and handed my American Express and basically escorted us out. I explained to the waitress that we left a tip on the table for her and that it wasn't her fault. But after the hostess RUDE BEHAVIOR. We will NEVER RETURN. Especially AFTER SUCH A SUBPAR DINNER. read more

Last night for our anniversary dinner I had swordfish which was the size of a deck of cards and overdone and a couple flories of cauliflower. Very small meal for the price. Jeff, the bartender, was the primary reason we returned a second time this week for dinner. We sat at the bar and received first-class service from him. The food was delicious, especially the short ribs and tacos. The Chef does a great job of combining unique flavors in his dishes. The Vintage Mai Tai was delicious and well crafted. It's such a sweet, old-fashioned feeling you get when dining here. We had to spend our last dinner here before heading home the next day, and we felt a sense of nostalgia as we drove away one last time; it's as if time stood still while dining there. read more
