The pasta was cooked al dente covered in perfectly balanced light white wine and butter sauce with a touch of lemon. Clams were large and juicy that exploded on your palate.. exceptional dish! Their flat bread special won't disappoint you. Ours had marinated Mushrooms, goat cheese with red onion! A Crispy crust with just the right seasoning blends these flavors heavenly.. we added sausage for our taste buds which added a nice savory flavor. Owned by a local Kilauea woman, the chef and staff take great pride in ingredients for complex and developed flavors, not just what's cost effective or what will create more profit. This restaurant is run by people who love really good food and that comes through in every app, every entree and OMG don't miss the mango tiramisu. Ended up dining here three nights this week, which is to say every night we ate out instead of cooking at our rental, we came here. Cute little hole in the wall that you probably would not go into unless you saw a yelp review recommending. Most of the patrons in there were locals, so you know it's good. Wow! Truly a hidden gem! If you are a foodie and looking for a great culinary experience you must go to the Palate Wine Bar in Kilauea. Expansive menu from simple but very tasty pesto penne to a variety of fish and wagyu entrees. One of our crew is vegan with some very specific food requirements and chef Kelly worked with him to tailor a meal for him. Our server Pat was very kind, giving excellent service and as a local great advice and insights. We particularly enjoyed the scallop appetizer, the portobello entree and the chocolate mousse! We met the owner Rich near our hotel at Princeville, and he told us to come to the restaurant and made some recommendations. Well, it was the best meal we had in all of Kauai! We had the kale macadamia salad with a miso dressing , Greek salad, and the butter fish entree, ALL SO DELICIOUS!! The fish was miso glazed , and roasted to perfection, it tasted slightly sweet/caramelized, and served with a sticky rice that soaked up all the yummy sauce. So damn good. Cute little restaurant with about 6 tables and a small bar. We made a reservation for 4 and arrived 20 minutes early - we were told a table was reserved for us and to take a seat. That was the last time the singular waitstaff spoke to us for the next 25 minutes. When she came back to our table, she took our order and brought us the bottle of wine we ordered. Again, didn't encounter her until the final bill was presented. Fortunately, the chef saw the discrepancy in how our table was being served compared to the other 3 and was very attentive (she and the sous chef were the ones who delivered all our food - chef informed us the waitstaff would come and tell us what was on the charcuterie board we ordered but alas that never happened.) All in all, the food was very tasty (a bit high priced but we ARE in Kaua'i)!! The chef did comp us 2 deserts - which were delicious but the waitstaff was quite lacking and extremely poor. read more

Whole thing run by 2 people, the chef and the server/host. They were very nice and it felt like someone was cooking for you in their home. Took it down a star because of the prices. I use to come regularly and for whatever reason backed off. Recently though a few of us decided to meet up there again. It was stellar to say the least. Much better than I remember so obviously some changes were made. The vibe is fantastic and the service is excellent and warm. I recommend EVERYTHING! You will not be disappointed. The acoustics are a tiny bit loud but with a table full of friends laughing and chatting it's no longer noticeable. It's a small dining area so definitely make a reservation! Not sure what we did but we clearly were not liked by the hostess/waitress. Maybe because we had kids or because we were clearly out of town? Wagyu special wasn't even mentioned to us (but was to the table that sat after us). My husband ordered a fish dish that another table was told by the chef not to order because the fish was old. Never had an experience at a restaurant like this before. Terrible service. Odd and a shame. Also I ordered a Caesar with shrimp and for an extra $12 I got three overdone shrimp. read more

We enjoyed exceptional sushi, oysters, salads, pizza and steak. Any one of these dishes would be a stand out in New York or Chicago. Having so much variety, quality, flavor and presentation under a single roof, that I had rarely experienced. We ended our meal by making another reservation later that week. this restaurant is fantastic but i want to flag immediately that i wasn't a huge fan of the $32 lemon butter seafood fettuccine. the flavor of the pasta was generally somewhat bland, the pasta a little overcooked. it was well past al dente and struggled to hold its shape slightly. the overall dish didn't blend well too well together. that being said, the remainder of our experience was top tier. the waitress who served us was super friendly and gave us great recommendations, including the mac nut & pesto flatbread. with that, the dishes. the lobster bisque had a very robust but precise flavor. the tomato's umami permeated the bisque and flavored the lobster very nicely. the lobster itself was super tender, and for $14 the serving size was plenty for 3 to share. i'd imagine this would work for up to a party of 4-5. the bruschetta was relatively standard but in a good way. the flavors were exactly what you would imagine, except the tomatoes tasted especially fresh. you could really taste the freshness with every bite. not once did it feel remotely too heavy. the mac nut & pesto flatbread is a must try. the sun dried roasted tomatoes fully complete the picture, making this an incredible dish. surprisingly, the overall bread and cheese did not feel heavy whatsoever, which i really enjoyed. overall this place is nearly spot on with their food. i find the seafood fettuccine particularly disappointing, but perhaps this is because it was the last dish and the others set a pretty high standard. would recommend if visiting kauai at any time of the year! read more

A nice little spot for dinner! We made a reservation a few weeks in advance, which I highly recommend doing because this place is TINY - only about 6-7 tables total. We showed up to find only one server working, and she was visibly overwhelmed. The ambiance otherwise was nice, probably a great spot for a date night. My group of five all decided to order wine flights. They give you the option of red or white wine flights, but you can choose the wines you want to try. Pricing is slightly higher if one of the wines is off their "Cellar Select" list, but we decided to go for it. While I liked most of the wines I tried, I didn't love that they were served in little mason jars. Of course, the presentation is adorable, but it made it difficult to fully smell/taste the wine. For food, we started with the soup of the day special, which was a Thai Coconut Shrimp Bisque. Not to be dramatic, but this soup was life-changing, and if it's available, you need to order it. Best item we had here! We also decided to split three flatbreads between four of us - the Mac-nut Pesto, BBQ Chicken, and the special flatbread of the day, which had mozzarella, sage, red onion, black olives, and sundried tomato. All three flatbreads were very solid, and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. My other friend also enjoyed her Chicken Caesar Salad and Pasta Special (italian sausage and red sauce). Small intimate Italian restaurant. Dark moody atmospheric lighting which we loved. Bottles on the walls. We got the meat lovers pizza, the Alfredo pasta, and meditteranean salad. All of it was really good, especially to compare to each other. The pizza was the best thing. Great amount of toppings. Conveniently cut so it's easy to grab. The condiments go all the way to the crust. The pasta is good. Keep it in the bowl or it gets too cold too fast. Very cheesy. It kind of got an old taste after a while after bite after bite. The salad was good. Kind of wet but good balsamic. Wish they had different olives than just black - I love those maroon ones often in Mediterranean salads. Nice server. Great prices too. My husband and I came in to Kauai from Big Island for our 34th anniversary. I wanted to find a place that seemed special, but not formal, and that had really great food welcoming hearts, to celebrate our special night. The reviews I read about Palate Wine Bar and Restaurant raved about the option for gluten free flat bread (my husband has been gluten free for over 20 years), and the flavor combinations for the toppings sounded amazing so I made a reservation. The food and the intimacy of the space made the evening exactly what I had hoped for. They were very busy, and lots of people came through, with the front of the house turning tables quickly, and welcoming and seating the guests. The most challenging choice of our evening was deciding what to eat. There were just so many great options that we just don't get anywhere on Big Island. We decided on the arugula salad with strawberries to share. The flavor complexity with the cheese, cherries and dressing made each bite amazing. The specials all sounded great, but I opted for the shrimp truffle flatbread and my husband got the meatloaf lovers, regulars on the menu. Every bite was truly amazing and it seemed like there were so many "regulars" that loved the food, the staff, and the opportunity to gather at a place that respected the food and made everything with so much care and respect. Disappointing It's a big restaurant in a crowded tourist hotel. Not much ambiance. Understaffed (unfortunately a problem throughout Kauai) although the staff they had was trying hard. I can't begin to explain how thoroughly I enjoyed my experience here. Now, as the man of wealth and taste that The Rolling Stones wrote "sympathy for the devil" about, I don't know that I necessarily had expectations, because alot of my dining experiences are marred by staffing issues and culinary disappointment. Huge shoutout to Rebecca who guided us through this culinary journey just as a Sherpa guides one through Mount Everest and facilitates your journey. I rolled up with an empty belly, a head full of work stress and an inability to make coherent decisions. Rebecca laid out some simple questions to get a feel for what we were looking for and offered some recommendations. Now, I 100% over ordered and am an adult so I recognized that I over ordered. I don't expect anyone to hold my hand and baby bird my food to me. Also, how is ordering too much food a problem?! Again, I digress. Rebecca was like Jackie Chan taking us around the world in 80 days with white wines. And again, I struggled to make decisions so I simply trusted her guidance and unlike Apple Maps there were zero wrong turns. Also, cannot recommend the sample board enough. Truly a just a feast of delicacies. I'm going to be honest I didn't necessarily know what I was eating, but I know that I was definitely having a good time. 10/10 would return.
