I was Training at Yamasaki at the time and went to the free sessions and open mat at standard. I was struggling with mental health issues at the time and Greg and Noah and the rest of the crew were as patient as anyone could be. This gym is an Extremely skillful gym. I've spoken to Greg multiple times about jitsu in general and I have not spoken to anyone nor listened to any YouTube video with that level of intellect about the sport. Thanks for being patient with me, and the time invested in me as I never paid Greg a dollar between the 7 free sessions they offer and open mat, but I learned priceless knowledge. Hearing Greg tell the story about how a prince of Saudi along with the Gracies started the ADCC was awesome. Thank you all, and sorry for any misunderstandings while I struggled with mental health issues at the time! God bless. OSS.

The instructors (Chris and the two Seans) teach a very modern approach to BJJ. Instead of just showing a position, practicing it a few times, and then sparring, they have us play games to really drill in the position and how it connects to the overall picture. I have found this style to be extremely beneficial as a beginner who is still trying to understand the fundamentals. One of my favorite things about the gym is the strong sense of community. On Thursdays we go out to a Mexican restaurant after class and travel to other gyms. He already encountered enough situations in the first grade where we decided he needed to learn abilities to stand up for himself and develop self confidence. We wanted him to learn and experience what it means to be a part of a team, how to strengthen yourself from within, never get discouraged, learn from each other, how it's ok to stand up for yourself, etc. Native has become part of our daily lives now and we couldn't be happier with the impact on Logan's development physically and mentally. Logan takes regular classes, competition classes and private lessons and he loves every minute of it. He looks forward to his time at Native. Can't wait until we get our youngest to start! Native's culture of family, discipline and respect is exceptional. We LOVE each Coach, Mariely, and all the Family and kids who train at Native. When you're at Native, it's not just about your kid. It's about ALL of our Native kids inside and outside the mats. This is something that another Parent friend shared with me at Logan's first competition, that I will never forget! GO NATIVE!

When traveling to Gaithersburg for work, I saw there was an academy reasonably close to where I was staying. Professor Noel was incredibly hospitable and encouraging for me to attend the classes. The academy itself is very clean throughout. The drilling or fundamentals classes were great in that they're both a good working and emphasizing drilling technique to perfection (drillers make killers as the saying goes). The advanced class that I attended immediately applied to something I've struggled with. With the requisite rolling, I found the students calm and technical with their sparring habits. Finally, the students themselves - across the belts - were friendly and inviting. I would definitely visit again as well as recommend Foundry Jiu-Jitsu as a place to train if you live in the area.

BS is owned and operated by local strongman and former CrossFit gym owner Steve Michael - an incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and generally strong dude. Steve's approach combines the best of old-school, no-nonsense training methods with a friendly, laid-back sense of humor. His training style is encouraging and fun without being intimidating at all, and his classes are a diverse mix of all ages/genders/body types/fitness levels with a common desire to get stronger and get in better shape. In summary, I HIGHLY recommend this as an alternative to your typical group strength training classes (like CrossFit) where you don't get a lot of individual attention, and the focus is just on cranking out a bajillion reps until oblivion and without proper form. I'm not a great fighter at all but muay thai is something I truly love. I look forward to it at the end of the day and see it as something that gives and rejuvenates me rather than taking away from me. Anyways, I came to TAG MT during a business trip and had known about this school already from watching TAG MT youtube instructional vids. I came early and got to see the kids class. It's a great balance of technical drills but also having lots of fun as the reward. The coaches are great and the kids look up to them, fully engaged and are adorable in their big Muay Thai shorts :P Head Instructor Kru Chris Aboy has an amazing personality and teaching style. His encyclopedic knowledge and teaching methodology is phenomenal. He can read each student individually while also making adjustments to the class as a whole depending on where everyone is at with the previous drill. You don't feel left behind at all. Coach James is amazing as well leading the partner drills and demos (for both Kids + Adults). In general, Phase 1 covers fundamental techniques including movement, defense, attacks, and counters through progressive partner drills. Coaches will demo technique, then go around reading students and providing helpful corrections and explaining the reasons why. Calistechnics and shadowboxing in-between rounds really push the conditioning. Controlled sparring drills towards the end adds just enough unpredictability yet retaining safety and technique. Phase 2 builds upon Phase 1 and adds in more advanced drills, focusing on more advanced strategies and technical sparring. For seasoned nak muay, TAG offers an in-depth knowledge and well rounded in all aspects. I really love their elbow/knee/clinch game. Nothing is watered down at all. I learned a LOT of new details to improve my technique is just one session. Most importantly, I felt taken care of and safe the entire time. If you live in the DC Metro Area and are interested in learning Muay Thai, whether it's for self-defense or competition, I strongly suggest checking out TAG Muay Thai. You will learn authentic, pure hard-hitting Muay Thai at TAG, along with the humility and respect of Traditional Muay Thai.
