I was seen by a Doctor w Potomac valley ortho. And the Doctor specifically told me services were covered only to bill me later. I had multiple broken bones. The Doctor also didn't recommend any rest or offer to write a note for fmla leave. And instead kept trying to write me pain medication. He was totally incompetent as a doctor. The fact they the place was empty should have been a clue. 0/10 don't recommend coming here. read more

BEWARE!! I had such a miserable experience at this practice - it has prompted me to leave what may be my first-ever YELP review. My September visit with the doctor for knee issues was fine. I received cortisone shots in both knees and a recommendation to use knee braces for gym, sports, and activities. When I asked, the assistant working with the doctor the cost of the braces, she quoted me approximately $150 each and noted that she needed to order them--for arrival the next day. Seemed pretty reasonable. Conveniently for PVOC/CAO, the billing system was down when I went to pick up the braces, so I ELECTRONICALLY signed for them without paying attn to the cost. I was billed a couple weeks later $298.61 for each brace. I attempted to return the unused braces, but the receptionist indicated that once I walked out of the office with them, they were not returnable. I left five messages for the Olney location office manager (Ryan) to question the return policy and billing. No matter what time of day it was he was either at lunch or not in the office. It's been over 2 months, and he still hasn't returned any of my calls. The only call I did receive about the braces, was a harassing call from the billing department. read more

Just completed 12 physical therapy sessions at the PVOA Olney location to heal a severely sprained ankle. Timothy Hulett, PT and Lindsey Hightower, PTA were masters at being both professional and personable. Their work is supported by several helpful receptionists and a number of student PT assistants who guided me through the exercises under their supervision. I can't imagine a better team. I was exceptionally pleased with the experience and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. read more

This review is for the PT side in Germantown. I am remiss in not having reviewed earlier. I have come here for several years for multiple injuries (shoulder, neck, back) and would give 41/2 Stars if that were an option. The PT's and assistants are great, especially Nancy and Kenny. The PT's clearly have the requisite clinical abilities. Immaculately clean and very Covid compliant. Remember, after the surgery, after the cast comes off, it's the PT that gets you better! read more

I have worked here on occasion as a physical therapy aide during the week and every other Saturday for the past 5 years. Much like their Germantown branch, they offer the highest quality of PT to all of their patients. All employees wear masks and also wear gloves if they're providing manual therapy as part of a patient's plan of care. Therapy equipment is constantly sanitized after each use and patients are kept socially distant from any other patient that may be receiving treatment at the same time. They have modified their clinic to abide my COVID-19 precautions via plexiglass between employees and patients at every desk area and placing social distancing markers throughout the clinic as reminders. The fact that they're open every other Saturday is a plus if you're busy during the week! The staff and atmosphere are welcoming and non intimidating which is crucial in order to avoid the white coat syndrome some patients have a tendency to experience. All in all, a great place to get physical therapy services in a nice location with helpful/friendly staff! read more

After I injured my index finger on my right hand, I called Potomac Valley and they squeezed me in the same morning. I met with Dr George Yeh who was informative, intelligent and skilled. After one well executed cortizone injection, the next evening the swelling was down considerably and I was not in pain! I regret not going to them when the same thing happened 6 months ago. I had a dreadful experience with PVSM billing after undergoing a short period of mediocre physical therapy at their facility. I went to 6 sessions at the office in Columbia, Maryland and paid my co-pay before each session. However, about one month after the end of my treatment, I received a bill for $15.00 stating I had not paid a co-pay for one session. Thinking I might have simply overlooked one co-pay, I sent a check to PVSM without a second thought. Another month later, I received yet another bill stating I owed another $15.00 for an unpaid co-pay for treatment. This time I suspected a mistake, as I was surprised at receiving even the first bill after my sessions. I contacted PVSM about my suspicion and was told that it was definitely not a mistake and that I owed PVSM another $15.00. I explained that I recalled paying every co-pay for my sessions via credit card and asked if there any way to check whether payment was in fact made. I also wanted to know for what session date the co-pay was not received so I could simply double check that date in my credit card record. PVSM could neither confirm whether my payments were received nor even give me a date of treatment(!) for this alleged lack of payment. Long story short: After arguing with PVSM several times on the phone over the course of 2 weeks, and reviewing my credit card records (which showed all co-pays being paid on all dates of treatment), I was forced to fax to them all relevant credit card statements for the 2 months of treatment to "prove to them" I did in fact make payment for all six sessions of treatment on the dates of that treatment so they would stop billing me and threatening me with collections. The insult to injury? I received one mumbled apology for the PVSM billing employee after I indignantly informed her that PVSM actually owed ME for the $15.00 check I sent after receiving their first bill. I spoke with her supervisor who told me she would do nothing to recognize my hassle due to their mistakes. No address of my irritation at being wrongly accused and the inconvenience of having to locate and prove my credit card payments to PVSM. And when I (finally) received my $15.00 back, the PVSM note stated that I "overpaid," not that they "incorrectly billed" me. In short, I do not recommend them to anyone. After all, I only underwent 6 sessions of P/T- I can only imagine the trouble I would have had with a longer period of treatment. read more

So far so good... I am currently undergoing PT for my shoulder, and though I was confused a bit at first as whom I would be seeing (a little run through of the program for first timers would have been helpful)...I am at least able to use my arm and shoulder a bit more, when I couldn't even move it before..so I have felt huge relief just from three visits. And just FYI, though I saw one of their doctors, no one there referred me to them. I have used Shady Grove Rehab before. This is closer and more convenient. But there I had one Rehab person. So, I will do and update when I am done. read more

Took my daughter to see them about a broken ankle. X-rays showed no need to have further action. So the cost of one appt. with X-rays and one follow up and one boot came to $2557.00. The boot alone was $650.00. We were quoted $250.00 for the boot. My complaint is the exorbitant cost. There was an added $1438.00 for no apparent reason, and when asked they said that's standard and if I want to complain I can contact the AMA. Luckily the ankle didn't require further action. I can't even imagine the exorbitant cost of another appt. or god forbid surgery. This place is not for the average person. I highly recommend going elsewhere. Even with insurance which adjusted the bill to $1189.04 this bill is ridiculous. There has got to be cheaper and better care elsewhere!!!!!!! They don't have to worry about me coming back! after paying that bill, my pockets are empty! read more

I was very disappointed with the care here. I feel the therapists have good intentions but may not have the most experience. The clinic staff was nice enough. I was seen Fall 2010 as a herniated disk patient. No specifics, but after being treated there a few times, I began to wonder if the care was appropriate, or even dangerous. I don't mind pain and expect that PT involves discomfort...but the way the exercises were prescribed just seemed wrong. They would insist I push ahead, beyond "therapeutic" pain into the "this is very wrong, it's making it worse" pain. I have an MA in Kinesiology and am a healthcare provider myself (Physician Asst), so I'm not completely uninformed about these things. When I would ask them questions beyond "layperson" level, I never got what I would consider educated answers. One therapist (not a clinic asst) even went totally blank in the face and stammered something useless when I asked if he thought my R psoas should be released before doing the exercise. Anyway, after moving onto other therapists (and getting good results with reasonable levels of pain), I was told that the exercises they had me doing were definitely "cookbook" and suggested a lack of experience from their therapists. Now I don't think this was intentional, and I think all the therapists and staff meant well and did the best they could. But....please be aware that the PT clinic is OWNED by the PVOAC orthopedists. So, if you fail PT you get referred to ortho? Can you see how they might benefit if you DON'T get better? read more

Dr. Murphy is incompetent and uncaring! My daughter went to him with excruciating hip and leg pain. He never examined her! He did a few X-rays and diagnosed her with bursitis. He said it was too much of a hassle for him to prescribe pain meds, so he gave her Ambien. Totally inappropriate! We took her to another doctor and she actually had shingles. He would have known this had he bothered to listen to her symptoms or examine her! Awful doctor!! read more

This review is for the orthopedist Dr. Mess, Jr. at the Olney Branch. I didn't not have physical therapy there (I wish I had though, long story). I was referred to Dr. Mess by my doctor who is on Washingtonian's best. My doctor is amazing even though the office is far and I don't have a car. I make the trek. Anyway, the staff was very polite helpful and always smiling. Good start for me. I could tell the doctor was knowledgeable about shoulders. He conducted only a few tests and gave a prescription for physical therapy. I give them five stars because of the service, competency and even the facility itself gets five starts. NOTE: I did have to wait a while to be seen by the doctor. I attribute that to being slipped in by the list minute by my physician, so I can't say that would happen each time. I've seen a fair amount of medical people and the community as a whole has eroded my confidence in my chances of receiving competent care. So, this place is a breath of fresh air when you have a painful joint/ muscles injury. Also, I await my bill....I don't have a co-pay with my insurance. read more

While these DR maybe good mechanics as far as how they do surgery, the follow up leaves much to be desired. I had terrible pain after surgery and felt like this was not addressed. My blood pressure reached stroke level and my primary care was able to get me into a pain clinic. After I receive proper pain medication, I was able to complete the physical therapy. I do not know why I had to go "outside" the practice to have my pain addressed. Consequently, I would not go back. read more

I had been thinking about going back to see a sports medicine doctor for awhile before scheduling an appointment with washingtonian magazine top ranked, Dr. Kevin McMahon. I scheduled the appointment and made sure I was well prepared. I brought my old records of treatment, my running orthotics, and made sure I could describe my symptoms. I was really disappointed when after waiting for about 25 minutes, Dr. McMahon didn't look at my records, didn't let me get a word in about what I had previously attempted in treatment, explained things to me like I was a 2nd grader and essentially dismissed me without any useful help. He was friendly and did apologize for not having much to offer, but he only gave me about 5-10 minutes of which he did all the talking before leaving. I hate to post a negative review, but it didn't feel like I got my deductible worth of a visit. read more

He did not push me beyond "comfortable" pain, replace exercises that caused discomfort, and worked with me to get me back to mobility.
