I had a one and one (fried and smothered) pork chop, with a side of butter beans and macaroni and cheese. It also comes with yellow rice, which went well with the beans. I have always loved a good soul food spot so when somebody recommended Potters House "Soul Food Bistro" I didn't think twice. Upon our arrival we were politely greeted at the door and shown where to go place our order and where we could sit. The restaurant wasn't busy and was very clean and welcoming. The servers were very kind and patient considering it was both mine and my wife's first time. My wife ordered 2 pieces of chicken (10/10), greens (10/10), mac & cheese (10/10) all seasoned to perfection and not too salty and the peach cobbler (11/10) was warm, savory and full of flavor without being too sweet. I ordered the 8 pcs wingetts (10/10), candied yams (10/10), mac & cheese (10/10) all seasoned to perfection without being too salty. The meal was very filling and not over priced. So, I came here initially for a wedding. At the wedding the food was so good that I had to come back for more! This is one of the best places when it comes to soul food. MY FAVORITE thing on the menu is the either the cabbage or the greens. I didn't realize you can host events here either! Which is great. The wedding was beautiful and food was delicious! So it pains me to make this review. I sincerely hope the owners make changes soon. I recently went here as I have for years. Ive loved this place ever since they were a little cafeteria in the church. I followed them to Kernan and yet again to their new location near Regency. Bought several cakes for holidays. Had them cater dishes for luncheons. As well as countless dinners with my family. When you think of soul food in Jacksonville, Potters House is everyone's first thought. With that being said this place has been severely disappointing lately. From the atmosphere, the employee customer service to the quality of food. It just seems like they have really lost focus on what the customers loved soo much in the beginning. I'm not sure if it's Covid having an impact on them and they might be doing their absolute best....but this can't cut it for me anymore. The service is extremely slow for it to be a cafeteria style restaurant. All food is prepared and ready to be plated. On average u will spend 30 mins to order your food when in reality it shouldn't. They are just not efficient. You can clearly hear the employees personal conversations and gossip while in line. You can hear the employees even complaining about their own job to each other. Very unprofessional. Thankfully there are now many other options in the Arlington area. I highly recommend Good Samaritan Kitchen food truck on Arlington Expressway or Sweet Mamas on Cesery. These are small businesses that take pride in what they are doing. You get quality, quality and great southern hospitality. The epitome of Soul Food. It's what Potters House used to be. This is the most unprofessional food servicing industry ever! To be "church folks", I see why ppl label Christian's as hypocrites. The staff is nasty, bad attitudes, and unsanitary. They do not change their gloves in between order. I mean a person can be allergic to what the last person got. VERY HIGH RISK! They scratch their heads and pick up their phone in the middle of making your food. They rush to make your food, you can't even tell them what you want. They want to throw whatever they want on your plate and act as if you're suppose to take it. And when you tell them that's not what you want they catch an attitude. They give out small portions of food and when you ask them for a little bit more they tell you to "stop begging" as if you're not paying for your food. I mean, how unprofessional! Large Restaurant, fast service and very clean. Carrot, whole corn, was too sweet to eat. Field peas are very tasty. The waiter was very understanding and substitute with no problem at all.
