This place is a mess! Nurses not very attentive. Put in a deserted hallway near dialysis unit with no staff in sight. My son DID NOT receive his insulin injection before his meal. Blood sugar was checked at 11:15, now 12:50 and still no insulin! This is a very unsafe hospital as far as your medications are concerned- if they even give them to you! read more

went to the emergency room this morning with extreme pain in my ear and couldnt hear, doctor saw me within 5 minutes of getting a bed and said it looks fine i need to see an ENT specialist. i then sat there for 45 minutes waiting to be discharged. 4 hours later i went to the V.A. urgent care at 8am when they opened, and they said i have a major infection and my drum is bulging, put me on 3 meds, and warned me it could still rupture, but according to pottstown ER i'm fine. read more

What a joke! My sister went to emergency there 3 years ago - after hours waiting did nothing and sent her home. Now 3 years later they have part of the bill sent to collections. She never saw a bill - they had a working address - obvious error (digits were flipped). Doesn't a phone exist! Ruining people's lives and just saying can't do anything! read more

Now I don't normally write a review for any hospitals or anything like that, but my experience at the Pottstown ER was wonderful. Initially I was hesitate on coming here because of the ratings and I wanted my friend to get the best care possible but it was the closest ER to where we were at at the time. The waiting room was clean and the intake people at the front were kind. The triage nurse was polite and efficient at her job. We had Dr. Sam Wood as our doctor and he was so marvelous and wonderful. He knew my friend and I were pre-health so he walked us through his entire procedure/process and made us feel really comfortable our entire visit. Thank you, Dr. Wood for making this experience amazing despite the accident that occurred resulting in us having to visit the ER! read more

I was referred to Tower Health (Pottstown Hospital) by Patient First, for an eye infection. Positives: I was called to a room quickly, Doctor and Nurse friendly, Transfer to Tower Health (Reading Hospital), transfer went smoothly, Ambulance medics friendly. I've been here for X-Rays, Ultrasound and CT Scans and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Negative issues I encountered: ER Doctor and nurse both showed lack of medical knowledge. The doctor asked me "name of medication" I take for Celiac Disease. We asked if he knew of one to please let us know. He told us he didn't know but there had to be one. There is no medication for Celiac Disease. SMH Another one of their ER doctors walked in my room sat down called me by the wrong last name asked medical questions about issue I was not there for. I stopped him to tell him he had the wrong patient. He laughed and act like it was a tiny mistake. But, to me it was a HUGE mistake. I didn't want to imagine if I had been unconscious. Lastly, There was an out of control patient a room away, screaming, yelling, cursing loudly at everyone. It was very sad to hear, very emotional for me and on top of that I was in extreme pain. They could not control the poor person who obviously had a mental crisis. Instead of controlling the situation, they escalating it. They resonated loud to the patient doctors and nurses both reprimanded her as if they were a two year old child. Which, caused patient to get louder. A staff member told me the patient had been in that state for many hours. It's the ER and I understand things can get out of hand. But, that situation to me was just poorly managed. For routine lab work or radiology testing I would probably return. However, I will never enter that ER again on my own!! There should really be no star ratings! read more

I know I have heard some negative things about this hospital. I am saying the opposite. I really believe they are a good hospital. Every experience I have had and my husband too, has been excellent. My husband just had surgery on an umbilical hernia this week and the nurses and doctor were so kind and caring. They involved me in everything too and took such good care of him. I worked here earlier this year in the ER. I made $18 an hour plus more depending on the shift. Why are they only paying $15-$16 now for the same exact job? The company sold their employees to ensemble healthcare and now new hires get paid $3 less an hour since February of this year when I applied and worked there ...that is so sad. I'm leaving in a few minutes, but must tell you about my stay at Pottstown Hospital. I came in to the ER on Saturday at my hubby's insistence. I had been ill for several days, otherwise, he and I are very healthy and athletic for people in our mid and late 60's. We were treated swiftly, kindly, professionally, and with great care. I was diagnosed with colitis & c-diff stemming from the use of proscribed amoxicillin related to a dental procedure. I had no idea I was so sick. Thank Goodness for the extremely professional staff at PH. From the day and night nurses to the PA & Dr. Patel the gastro-specialist, assistant nurses, etc., they are all very Professional, kind and caring and, I will forever be grateful for their attention to mine and my hubby's needs. This is Monday afternoon and I am headed home. YAY! read more

Poor Pottstown Hospital, they get such a bad rap. I was having an emergency at home and had to drive a loved one to the Emergency Room. The ER was packed with tons of people. We arrived by 8:15 PM or so. I figured we weren't going to be seen til around midnight at least. Clearly there were a few people using the ER for their regular Dr appointments per the conversations I heard. I seriously debated trying Phoenixville Hospital ER but we had filled out the paperwork so I decided to stay put. We were seen within the hour- miraculously!! Jolene the ER nurse was spunky and energetic. Not only highly skilled, but a fantastic personality. The attending nurses were very good but 1 seemed burned out and frazzled. She was being pulled in so many directions. There were patients in the hallway in beds because it was so busy. The attending triage medical staff, doctors, nurses were top notch. The food in the hospital was excellent too! We were only at Pottstown for less than 24 hours before we were transferred to Phoenixville Hospital. Review to follow. No one wants to be admitted to the hospital, but Pottstown nurses are compassionate, kind, helpful and compassionate. Pottstown is not the same run down Hospital of the past, give it a chance. read more

Terrible place if you go in for major orthopedic surgery such as a lumbar fusion revision. The orthopedic floor was shut down on the last 6 months. Had my procedure no been a medical emergency and I was informed the orthopedic floor was gone,, I definitely would have gone to the Lehigh Valley. on the general floor, you are left for hours on your own. My personal experience, since my spinal surgery was over 9 hours, I woke unable to empty my bladder. Spinal fusion revision was done due to hardware migrating into soft tissue etc. Fused from L1 to S1. Ok, after surgery I required assistance to the rest room and after the second time ringing for assistance, I was told by a CNA to figure this bladder issue out because SHE was tired of me ringing for assistance to go to the rest room. I told her yes, the bladder scanner is there, my nurse said she was overwhelmed with other patients and couldn't do the scan or catheter that night. My first night immediately after the surgery, the nurses and cnas just couldn't be bothered. Eventually I got a new nurse who happened to be a family friend with orthopedic experience. WOW huge difference, she didn't complain once about all the other patients she had, I didn't have to ring for anything she would come in every couple hours. My bladder was scanned a few times and I was catheterized after each scan. I eventually got meds to assist with the bladder issue. read more

Due to a number of maladies in my left leg which are getting progressively worse, despite the excellent treatment of your staff, it is getting harder to move about, Things have deteriorated to the point where I must use a wheelchair to move from and to the clinic and my car. Enter Susan at the front reception desk and Donna and Sandy at the center, and with their kindness and compassion, and with the use of your facility's wheelchair, I have been able to make the trip to and from my car and the clinic, which is no easy task, given my weight. The Hospital is lucky to have these fine individuals as staff members and they should be recognized and applauded. read more

Had to go in for stitches. Checked in within 20 minutes. Waited in a room for over an hour to be seen. Cut was not cleaned out or anything by any staff. I had the paper towel from my house on there until the Dr showed up. Found out the patient next to me was covid +. Asked for my room to be changed, was looked at like I was crazy for asking. After an hour and a half the doctor came in and said the wait would be the same at any other hospital and there's only 2 doctors on duty. He asked where else would I go? Other ppl had more severe emergencies. Was not treated kindly or respectful by any means and have never received such poor service. read more

Dear Pottstown Memorial Hospital, your service & ER staff are rude, ignorant, and lazy. Yup I said it and I'm calling you out. When I bring my son to your ER for a "wee" little cut on his knuckles (at 9:15pm), there is NO one in the waiting room, and you make us wait 2.5 hours before a PA looks at his finger (and then treats my son like he is an idiot that hasn't had 8 surgeries in 3 years), and tell him "You have to lay down because I said so" instead of treating him like a person. You have to know that your service and staff are failing at their jobs. Every person working in this ER tonight should not have a job come morning. I have spent my fair amount of time in hospitals and I know it can be slow going, but this is negligent and flat out rude. 8/21/15 UPDATE: I received a call from Pottstown and the woman was very gracious. She said that the PA would be calling me along with the medical director to apologize. She said that they take bad service very very seriously and would not stand for it. I will update if they follow through, but I am appreciative that they took the time to call me. 8/25/15 FINAL UPDATE: I got to speak with the head of HR and the Medical Director. They went out of their way to deal with the PA in question who treated us so badly. I got not one but four phone calls and two emails with apologies from all involved. I am going to upgrade my review to 3 stars and would give the hospital another try if we had an emergency. read more

Outpatient lab we usually go to with our type 1 insulin dependent daughter was closed so we went to the hospital. She could not eat for the tests so it is a big deal because her sugar will drop. When we arrived, we had to get our temperature checked then we were told we did not have an appointment but because of circumstances they would allow it. Then we waited 20 minutes to be called back by a woman with a grudge. She gave me a lecture about not having an appointment and tried to send me away. I told her we were told it was ok. Then she said our insurance may not cover labs - not true. Then called a manager to have us sign waivers for responsibility who also lectured about the appointment and tried to give us directions to another lab. So terrible to treat our daughter this way, they should be ashamed!!! read more

I will preface this review by stating that this is NOT in regards to how I was actually treated in the hospital. I have no complaints about the care I was given. The people who helped me were very patient and informative. They made me feel comfortable and took great care of me. For that, I thank them. This review is directed at the BILLING DEPT, and ONLY the BILLING DEPT. My $1200 bill from PMMC was written up August 19th, sent on August 24th, and received August 27th, 2015. It is due in 4 business days. FOUR DAYS TO COME UP WITH TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?! After my initial shock wore off, and my hands stopped shaking, I decided to give the Billing Department a call. I was as polite as a person can possibly be. I asked if it would be possible for me to set up a payment plan with PMMC. To which the young woman I spoke to responded "HUH??" - so I repeated myself. She then said "I heard you..." and proceeded to make me feel completely worthless. Sighing at every request, talking over me, and basically threatening that my bill was going to collections, because I don't have $1200 dollars just laying around. I told her that my children were recently enrolled in an expensive new school, that I can barely afford, and that I wouldn't be able to pay the bill until February of 2016. That is when I am lucky enough to receive my yearly bonus at work. I told her that I could maybe send $20 a month until then. At the point I receive my bonus, I would pay the remaining bill in full. She just kept saying no, and that all she could do was set me up on a 9 month plan where I give them $140 every month. I get it. I'm poor and can't afford to get medical help when I need it, but you don't need to speak to me in such a way that leaves me feeling like some deadbeat piece of garbage. You clearly have no experience in customer service, or genuinely don't care about how you treat people. Either way, you'll get your money in February. Go ahead and send my bill to a collections agency. Maybe I'll get better customer service through them. The PMMC Billing Dept is clearly only about getting your money as quickly as possible, and has absolutely no concern for your other expenses. Also... this isn't a random incident. My Father and my Grandmother were both recently in this hospital, and were treated the exact same way. Money money money. That's all they want. No working out a solution, just give them your money. That's all they care about. *UPDATE AS OF 10/2/15* I randomly received a phone call from PMMC yesterday, and now they are willing to put me on a decent payment plan. Not sure why the sudden change in procedure, but they are now okay with me giving them $35 a month, until February/March, when I get my bonus and can pay the remaining balance in full. As I write, my husband is sitting in the E.R. with his mother, my mother-in-law. They got into the E.R. and out of the lobby in under 15-minutes, but, inside, they have been waiting nearly four hours for a room to be made available for her to stay overnight. She is 98 years old. Nothing has been done to relieve her discomfort. Granted, it's a delicate situation, but, what kind of emergency care is that? How absurd is it to be told you'll have to wait 3 or 4 hours without relief, or food, or water, for a room? I can only give this place two stars; one because it exists and offers the hope of medical assistance, and two because ... hmmm. ONE STAR. read more

We had a medical emergency for our special needs daughter, a life threatening situation. With her issues, she was stabilized and then sent to her specialists. The entire staff, doctors and nurses were amazing. Dr. Van Vliet was awesome and called and left her person cell number after the transfer to check on my daughter. I have reached out twice by e mail for a response about the inappropriate and unprofessional treatment that I recently experienced in regard to my daughter at the emergency department. They have yet to respond to my request, therefore, I am sharing my experience on this platform. Do not go to this ED unless you are really desperate and need immediate treatment. Go the distance to either Paoli or to the city. Although the nurse was very skilled and capable, the doctor was a liar and acted like a spoiled brat. I went to PMMC in 2016 for an ER visit and while the care I received met my needs its the brutal treatment by the billing department after that I had to endure that is prompting this one star rating. I set up a payment plan from my HSA account to pay off the bill, but after my bill was paid in full I noticed that someone from PMMC would take $70.00 out of my account on random days. I called the hospital billing department no less than 20 times to have this corrected but to no avail. The hospital continued to steal $70.00 from my HSA account and some months return it, and some months not return the amount. In total the hospital took without authorization $700.00. The hospital eventually has refunded me $560.00 however they are refusing to pay me the remaining $140.00 owed to me. I had to cancel my HSA card to stop the continued theft from PMMC. I had to call my insurance provider and inform them of the unauthorized charges, and my HSA bank. Both my insurance company and the bank launched investigations into the charges as they were random and did not align to the initial payment plan. Two weeks ago I again called PMMC to inquire about my refund and was informed that they applied a portion of my $140. to a subsequent visit to the hospital. This was done without even issuing me a bill for the services. However, I was told a refund check for $84.70 would be mailed to me. As of 12/11/2017 still no check for the stolen funds. I called again today, and the representative informed me that PMMC was keeping the $84.70 owed to me for the outstanding balance that I have yet to receive a bill for??? On no less than 5 occasions I asked to speak with a supervisor and every time I was put to a generic voice mail and never once received a call back from the hospital. There is no way the billing is accurate or legitimate, and appears to be fraud as the charges were on various days would skip months and double bill, sometimes return the money sometimes not. I would be very cautious to anyone setting up a payment plan as my experience appears to be criminal in nature and I will be filing complaints with the local police and Pennsylvania board of health. read more

I moved to Pennsylvania while I was 8 months pregnant. Crazy, I know. The staff here were so caring and nice and guided me through my birth. Yes, maybe the rooms are a bit outdated, but they were clean and the nurses are top notch. New parents also get a special meal. If I couldn't be in Michigan to deliver it was certainly a joy to bring my little into the world here. read more

Was sent to the ER from Patient First to have an ultrasound done to determine if I had a blood clot in my leg. I ended up having blood work, x-rays and an ultrasound done...after four hours I was discharged and told I had a sprained ankle. WRONG! My leg ballooned up, and I got an appointment with my primary. She sent me for a CT scan at the hospital. My appointment was scheduled for 6:30. They called me and asked me to come in early...turned out that they wanted me in early only for their convenience..so that their intake people could leave. My appointment was for after 7pm, so I sat for over an hour. CT scan came back that I had an abscess and that it needed to be drained. Considerably different than a sprained ankle. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. My mom went to emergency. Is told kidney stone and sent home. Pain increased went back 2 days later. Told no kidney stone and think it's her back. All weekend pain is managed poorly. Doctor didn't show up until Sunday afternoon. Improved pain meds but no MRI. They don't do them on the weekends. They forget to give her high blood meds even after given a lot of her meds. Nurse even questioned her elevated pressure. Released Monday with pending doctor visits and an MRI for Wednesday. Told MRI is across the street and going as an outpatient they like better because they get paid. What?????? read more

After an emergency room visit and having a CT scan done, the bill was $11,800.00 just for that one test!! What an outrage. This is why our health care is in such disarray. How this be justified is beyond me. After calling 3 x's to see how this can be rationalized the answer was just "well we give good service", etc etc. Be sure you ask what they will charge before getting anything done - even in the ER. if I could rate the hospital a zero I would. my brother got taken to the hospital after an incident involving drugs. he was very obviously tweaking and very off, as he has autism so his already quirky movements were exasperated. In the hospital they labelled it an accidental overdose. They called him a MEDICAL UBER, still tweaking, and sent him "home" where he proceeded to sit outside for two hours in 97 degree heat, all while hallucinating people that werent actually there because he has no idea what's actually happening and is making no sense. He was/is not violent, but very very obviously too high to make a decision about his own health. Instead of getting him stable/sober enough to actually function, they just sent him out by himself in a crazy heat wave and didn't care what happened to him after that. He was barely there a full night ( brought in the early morning) and discharged a little after 6 am. Thanks so much to the amazing staff at the Pottstown hospital that did absolutely nothing besides give him some fluids and send him on his way! Even the police officer that took him to the hospital was shocked and surprised to find that he was not still there hours after everything happened. You guys seem to care so much about the well-being of your parents, it's no wonder Pottstown is such a beautiful place to live with health care workers like you guys taking care of the public! Maybe if you actually worked to help those struggling instead of trying to flip beds as fast as you could you might be able to do your jobs! Thanks for nothing. read more

This review is for the outpatient procedure unit: fabulous staff! The nurses were knowledgeable, friendly, caring & comforting. They took all steps possible to prevent any kind of infection from occurring during surgery. Everyone who looked at my chart commented, without me asking, they I had chosen the right surgeon for the job. I knew this from my research, but was reassuring to hear. Dr. Edith Behr is intelligent, skilled, friendly, funny, quick & to the point. Great experience all around. This is coming from a nurse who is naturally more critical & uncomfortable with being on the wrong side of the hospital bed. I do not work for Pottstown hospital, so this is not a biased review. read more

If I could give negative stars this Hospital would have it! They take forever to see you. We checked in at 6:00 pm it's now 7:39 pm and we are still waiting for a room. They made sure to check us into triage right away so we couldn't leave because the signage clearly states that if you leave after triage you will receive a bill for triage services. It's absolutely disgusting that it takes so damn long to be seen at an emergency room. Thank god it's not something extremely serious, I'd be dead. Not that they would know, they don't even check on the patients they check in just try there hardest not to make eye contact when you inquire about a room. The reputation of this hospital will never change, no matter who owns them you can't change the lack of professionalism, care, and time management of a team without starting for scratch! I think it's about time the hospital considers to do so the service they provide and the treatment of patients is disgusting and unethical! They treat you like cattle for your insurance money, rather then a human needing there help and expertise. read more

This is my first and last visit at this ER. I walked in and went right to the main desk explaining why my son and I were there and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. Then I had to tell her I never been here before and she points to a paper and says sign in. So now we wait..... For hours. I got there at 7pm and didn't leave u til after 11pm. After waiting for a couple of hours we go into triage then back out for about 1/2 hour. We get out into a room and wait for another hour. Nurse comes in checks my son then leaves. Doesn't say anything. Wait another hour. Dr comes in says oh he has an ear infection because he is 'favoring' his one ear! What the heck does that mean. Then he leaves. We are just sitting here waiting. Finally the nurse comes back in with a steroid and antibiotics. Then he leaves. We waiting over 45 minutes for discharge papers. No communication with the staff what so ever. THEN we go to cvs the next day to fill the script, well they had 2 different dosages on the script (and a different one on the discharge papers). Cvs has to call and she just got passed around. When I got home I called my pediatrician to verify the dosing because I didn't feel comfortable with this whole outcome. She said DO NOT give that to him. I take him to the pediatrician the following day- no ear infection. A complete waste of 4.5 hours and money. Never again. read more

We have no problem with E.R. per say, the hospital is a glorified urgent care center that does not truly serve the community. On 9/24/16 about 12A my left arm went numb, we rushed to the E.R. fearing a Stroke or Heart Attack. E.R. does it's very well, no sign of heart attack and little sign of stroke, but are unable to do an M.R.I. so I'm forced to be admitted, for "observation", all I need is an M.R.I. to confirm I didn't a stroke. This becomes the key to my problem , They Don't Have An M.R.I. machine in the building, they sold it and moved it to another building 500 ft away that's not available 24/7/365 and requires an ambulance ride to get to. When sun rose on Sat 9/24/16 I expected that I would get my M.R.I. and go home. NO, the machine is ready and waiting, the ambulance crew don't work on the weekends!!! Now I can't leave this building without going A.D.A., which jeopardizes my insurance coverage,and am now basically held hostage for 2 more days, at $500 a day my cost, in a noisy over lite hell hole, where sleep IS NOT POSSIBLE. How did I end up in this pit of shit? They did away with the cardiac care ward, the cardiac lab, have no provisions to deal with Dementia patients and just put us all in the "Progressive Care" unit, where I had listen to them FIGHT a patient for 2 plus hours (2 nurses, 4 aids) just have them "start climbing" the bed. Un answered buzzers all night long, the new guy next to me, heart patient with a cpap machine that sounds like a iron lung and the hourly circus parade of hens doing rounds./ All I needed was an M.R,I. to clear me of the stroke protocol, should have been transported to the sister hospital in Phoenixville, that has an M.R.I machine. That prospect WAS NEVER relayed to me. So I was held hostage for 3 days at P.M.M.C. when I should have walked on the first morning. By the way, if you have cancer, they have a multi million dollar cancer unit. Can't do the more than the basics, but got a multi million dollar cancer lab. BULL SHIT. Unless you are in need of E.R. services avoid this HELL HOLE at all costs. If your having a heart attack, go elsewhere. If your having a stoke, go elsewhere. If you've been stabbed, shot, beaten or raped they might be able to handle it. Unless your skull is cracked, then go elsewhere, they don't have a M.R.I machine in house. How can they be a stoke center without the M.R.I. machine??????????????????? read more

Dirty, inattentive/inexperienced nursing staff, room not checked for removal of food trays, medical waste on floor and left, used linens left for prolonged period of time, miscommunications between dr. orders on nutrition to be cold BUT hot food also arrived on tray (3x) which was dangerous to healing, housekeeping staffer negatively chatting to nurse about another staff member in front of patients, water pipe continually leaking in shower, reported, housekeeping advised it is an old building, the list goes on...very unsettling experience. Would rate zero stars if possible. read more

i find it hard to believe that anyone has a poor experience at Pottstown memorial hospital. we love this hospital everytime we have to see a doctor and cant access our regular physician we can count on the er to do a great job taking care of us. I chose driving a little further to this er room instead of going to Lehigh valley. this er room is smaller and personal. the doctors and staff are super cool and friendly and really try to get you taken care of with reasonable timing and professional service. I cant say enough good things about the er room and ive never had a disappointing experience and I reccomend this hospital to anyone who wants to be in a personalized environment and ultra professional staff to care for you safety and health. thank you so much for your outstanding service and care you make me feel like I matter and when your sick a lot it really helps to be cared for with dignity and respect. read more

This hospital is absolutely DISGUSTING. I know two people who have been treated here for infections and left with MRSA. This is in reference to your ER, and the so called staff you have there. I went to the ER today for sever pain in my lower back and not being able to urinate. I felt it might be a kidney stone. When I got there I filled out all the paper work and then was called in. The nurse named Josh asked why I was there, so I explained to him. He said you'll have to wait about 15 or 20 minutes till they get a room ready. I waited and I waited. In the meantime, people came in and they went in to the back where the rooms were. I sat and I sat. All the others that came in after me went in, but I still sat. I finally said to the nurse why is everyone going in before me, while I am still sitting here. Her reply was that they didn't have a room for me. She was rude and arrogant. When she came out for other people waiting she just ignored me. My husband got so angry he took me back home. this isn't the first time w have been treated this way. A few years back I brought my husband there with a temperature of 106.We sat there from 6P.M. until almost midnight. He was delirious and They took him back finally when I told them I was calling the police dept. We are not young people, but senior citizens. they treated us with such disgrace. My husband was 71 and he has changed because of that fever. I will never go to that ER again. I am going to look into going to another hospital. Don't bring anyone you care about there.
