Friendly receptionist, genuine female NP seemed to truly care. We came for a Dr's note for school. The receptionist told us we could even come back another day to request a note for the days of school missed, so that was nice to know. We weren't sure what Highmark PCP would cover, said $15 for PCP but nothing for urgent care. Turns out it was only $15 for the urgent care as well. At the time we came there were only a couple people in the waiting room. We didn't have to wait too long. It was a a pleasant experience and we will continue to go back! read more

Facing a couple different issues that I knew my Dr would have to send me somewhere else for testing, etc. I reluctantly went to the AFC in Downingtown with no appointment. But everyone there was great from the front desk to the X-Ray tech, all very warm and helpful. Dr. Schmidt was able to give me answers in a short time, and even better able to treat all my issues with success. I would recommend this facility to anyone needing immediate care for something. Even with no appointment and a emergency crying kid, I didn't really wait that long, and once I got in, everything moved right along. Definitely 5 stars! read more

I brought my granddaughter last week with a sore throat. I had to request a strep test which was negative. They told us it was pharyngitis. We traveled to nebraska the next day and she still felt terrible. The urgent care in Omaha tested her for strep, Covid and found that she has mono. It's nice to find that some facilities will work to find an answer. I'm hoping to find a better med center near Downingtown that isn't so anxious to get you out the door read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to this horror show for a pre-op clearance! I had an appointment scheduled for a Wednesday at 11:00 am with Dr. Schmidt. I received a call at 5:30 pm on Tuesday telling me the doctor would not be in that day (so why schedule the appointment???). I rescheduled for the next Wednesday at 11:00 am. I even got confirmation & reminder texts. So I make the 40 minute drive, & when I get their I'm told Dr. Schmidt won't be in until 2:00 (OMG!), but there was another doc who could take care of it. Five minutes later I'm told the other doc doesn't do pre-surgical clearances & I can come back at 2:00 when Dr. Schmidt was scheduled to come in. Really??? So am I supposed to wait around in Downingtown for 3 hours, or go home & drive another 1.5 hours later in the day? I mean, I do have a JOB. I had to take time off for the morning appointment that never happened, I'm supposed to take more time off b/c of their incompetence & arrogance? To make matters worse, the woman working at the front desk tells me "don't get mad at me, it's not my fault." Oy! I called my surgeon when I got home & he made other arrangements for me, thank goodness. I will never ever visit this nightmare facility again. read more

Went in December because my doctor couldn't fit me in. I didn't sit in waiting room long, but was in with doctor even less time! No exam, no temperature check, no blood pressure check..no checking anything. Introduced herself , then told me, without me saying anything, that she would not prescribe any antibiotics. I left. Had to go here last night. Laryngitis and some coughing for the past week and I can't stand it any more! I have a PCP that I already really like, and didn't really expect much from a walk-in clinic. Probably high staff turnover and a revolving door with basically uncaring and quick staff. But it was getting late. And gosh was I wrong! From the girls at the front desk, to the clinical staff, to Dr. Schmidt, I can honestly say I'd go back here in a heartbeat, any time (although hopefully not often!). Everyone was so warm, personable, and kind. I did not at all feel rushed and very much appreciate the fact that they each seem very passionate about their "callings", (rather than referring to "just a job".) I could tell that they care and take their time to listen and treat each patient as an individual. Dr. Schmidt went above and beyond, even sharing some extra info and hand outs regarding vitamin supplements and chatting about vaccines. Super happy with my experience here... highly recommend! She was very welcoming, explained the procedure thoroughly, only a slight pinch, and was helpful with aftercare. Girls at the front desk were welcoming as well. I love the staff at AFC Urgent Care in Downingtown! I can't thank them enough for always providing top notch medical care! Dr Schmidt and Darius Clemons really care about each and every one of their patients! I know when my doctor's office is too busy to schedule a sick visit even when it's pertinent that I be seen that I can always count on the wonderful staff at AFC to take care of me. They provide much better care than my current primary care doctor. The office manager is always so welcoming and concerned about me. The front desk ladies are personable and very comforting. We scheduled an appointment for our infant daughter the day before. We put in our insurance and her date of birth, and received all the confirmation emails. It took us 45 minutes to drive there, and we had to get a babysitter for our toddler. When we got there, the doctor didn't feel comfortable treating our infant daughter because she was 9 months and cancelled our appointment without any empathy or consideration. We never received any email or phone call prior that she wouldn't be treated. They recommended another urgent care over an hour away and couldn't confirm if we'd get a new appointment there. As a tourist trying to obtain care, I found that the care I received from the receptionists, thee nurses and the doctor was second to none. The care and attention and service from Dr. Schmidt is exceptional. He is extremely knowledgeable and attentive to what I describe as my symptoms. I feel put at ease every time I have had to come in to see him. I could not recommend his office more. He gave me information tailored to my issues on how I can improve my health on my own and within the short window of time we had together I felt completely tended to. My company's Insurance required me to go to a board-certified Doctor before they could approve my WC claim. My expectations were low since AFC Urgent Care was not my choice. I arrived at AFC in Downingtown Friday night 7:00-7:15pm. The friendly staff welcomed me and got me in to see Dr. Schmidt without delay. He was very knowledgeable and friendly as well. I was in and out, yet I did not feel rushed and received the help I needed. I would go back to this branch and will tell my family and friends about my experience. The only reason I am giving this office 1 star is because of the staff. My daughter was the last patient to be seen and to say she received substandard service from the doctor would be generous. He would not allow my daughter to explain all of her symptoms and too quickly prescribed her an antibiotic without knowing all of the facts. He was very abrupt with us. They correctly diagnosed me with strep, prescribed me the correct medication and listened to my symptoms I was reporting and didn't talk over me. The Dr. was very nice and helpful. First time visitor to this Urgent Care. **PATIENT BEWARE** I was told my insurance would be accepted. Great! Knowing my copay was $75, they wanted to charge me $140, prior to seeing me. Women told me she spoke with my insurance on the phone and stated the information listed on my insurance card was incorrect. Went off to explain deductibles and that's what the cost would be. False information. I contacted my insurance to which they confirmed my co-pay at ANY urgent care is $75, and that this location was trying to overcharge me. Lying to patients about actually speaking with their insurance, falsely dictating your cost, and trying to intentionally overcharge patients, is a scam. Glad I walked out. ***Thank you for the response. However, that is not how deductibles work. If you are going to accept an insurance company, you agree to the copay agreed upon. Not charge a high fee that is basically cost without insurance.*** read more

I went here on Sunday for a chest X-ray. This was the only urgent care with staff available for this service. The staff, technician, and front desk were compassionate, friendly, and welcoming. We were in and out fast and I could not have felt more welcomed. I had never used this office before, but I will only use this one in the future. Our family reunion went all Reunionus Interruptus when my son Maximo had the audacity to derail the itinerary by running a conspicuously high fever. Couple this with the madcap East Coasterly habit, and I say this with love for you all, of cranking the A/C to a cryonic levels to compensate for suburban Philly's 95 wringingly humid degrees...and all us West Coasters were dry-coughing and shivering ourselves hypothermically to sleep...only to quiver into gelatinous sweat pudding during the daytime outdoor highs. So Maximo was definitely not faring well by the time my very responsible cousin ushered us right into Doctors Express. There was absolutely no wait on this Sunday afternoon (I seem to recall Sundays being pretty prime time for ER visits, for some reason; I guess people will do anything to avoid going to work or school the next day, even if it involves bleeding out, or the jaws of life). I didn't have my insurance card with me, but when I explained we do in fact have insurance, the women at the front desk went so profoundly above and beyond mere helpfulness--even availing me of their desktop computer so that I could try and access my insurance website, and in turn my account number. She even wheeled back and gave me her chair! That's not gonna happen to you at your average urgent care, that's for sure. They got us processed extremely quickly. The doctor was as unfriendly as the front desk attendants were gregarious. Please do not expect any bedside manner here. However, his diagnosis was immediate and accurate: acute upper respiratory infection. I asked for a few details: "Is that throat? Or upper chest? Or is it more like sinusitis?" "It's upper respiratory." Pause..."Okay...so is it in his...um, nose...or--" Pained grimace. "It's Upper. Respiratory." (blink) "Ahaa." I then sought information on my iphone while he scribbled a prescription. Seems it can be any one of like 800 things, so my guess is it scarcely mattered to him, as the antibiotics train was headed our way regardless. Anyway, that terse and roundly unhelpful exchange aside, he did do his job in about 13 seconds, and we got what we needed to get Maximo back on the rails. I can't fault his performance, but I do think you might have to interface with people sometimes when you're in the business of fixing them, and can't resist suggesting--as my hypothetical grandmother once said, "assume a virtue until you possess it." However, if I could give the women out front a whole galaxy of stars, I would, and the fact is, this place was under $200 for the diagnosis and the prescription together, and we didn't have to clog up an ER or pay the ridiculous fees associated with that type of visit. In and out in a half hour, and on the road to recovery. For the urgent healthcare need that isn't a genuine emergency, this place definitely fits the bill. read more

If this were an NPS score, I'd rate the Doctors Express Urgent Care a 9! Really nice, concerned, responsive medical care! I do not live in this area, and I'm traveling on business. Suffering for a couple of days knowing I had a UTI but drinking as much cranberry juice, water and taking Azo like crazy! After cleaning the box of Azo out, I figure that I'm not going to make it home to see my doctor so found Doctors Express on YELP! Thank you!! Maggie and Abby were so wonderful and the nurse and Doctor had words of concern, knowing how being ill away from home just compounds feeling bad. They had a sense of humor a long the way to help me laugh and take my mind off of the tenderness and pain for a while. Even when leaving and they were closing the office, Maggie was concerned the pharmacy may close before I got to pick up the script so she had me call first to make sure I'd get the antibiotic tonight. So to all my friends out there who may travel to Malvern, PA or live in the area looking for medical care, I'd give them a try. I went in today for a physical, 2 step PPD and MMR titers. The staff was great and very friendly. I was there about an hour or so, mainly because they had some trouble drawing blood and had a couple of the nurses try to find a vein. (I am usually a hard stick- so it's nothing new for me!) since they couldn't find the vein, they did give me a script to go to the lab and get it done there. I go back in 2 days for my PPD read and then again next week for the 2nd step of PPD test. read more

BEWARE!!!! Yes, the place is new and clean, but the service and quality of care is nothing to be impressed with. You will spend about 10 min. with a doctor, probably get a script, and then be billed out the rear end! I have insurance and they accepted the $88 my insurance company (AETNA) gave them. I also paid a $30 co-pay. A month later, I got a bill in the mail for $100! They charge you DOUBLE what a regular practitioner would charge you for a sick visit. They will tell you that they take insurance and will work with you - but they do not tell you how much they will charge the insurance company and that you will most likely get a bill in the mail for even more. I've had strep throat a few times so I know when it's turning into that versus a normal sore throat. Not wanting to wait or suffer until Monday to see my regular doctor I went on a Sunday. The pictures are very accurate. The office is clean and the staff is very nice. It was relatively busy when I went and it took a little over an hour for me to be seen. The other patients were moving at a pretty steady interval, there was just a lot of people there and only 1 doctor. My negatives: The desk is out in the open so you can hear a lot of the conversation they nurses/staff are having with the patients. I would suggest they have them off to the side. They have an automated blood pressure machine that was not working. The nurse had to put it on both of my arms in different places and run it multiple times...I mean like 8 times to get it to read my blood pressure. It squeezed my arm so hard that I had blood blisters on my skin from it pinching me. She should have just taken it the "manual" way after the 3rd attempt, but honestly I don't think she knew how to do that. I was so sick and in too much pain to care. I would go back if I needed to, and would probably say something about the machine if that happens again. read more

I have used Doctors Express on two occasions. Once for myself and the other for my young daughter. What a great service they provide! The staff and doctors are all professional, courteous & efficient. Both visits we were in and out between 30-45 minutes. They accept most insurance the co-pay is more then the standard but then again you're paying for the convenience of seeing a doctor when yours is not available. read more

The most patient urgent care ever. I was in there on a Thursday for strep throat, and by Sunday felt like I was having a weird reaction to the medication they gave me. I must have called them back 6 different times with a new issue or scare I was having, and they were so kind and made sure a doctor called me back right away. I then went in later for them to just make sure I was ok because I was so paranoid and they wasted no time getting my vitals checked for me, and calling in a new prescription to be ready for me immediately. They made me feel heard, valid, and important....even if I was over reacting! Very thankful for this crew, if they ever see this! read more

I was in the Downingtown area from out of town for a lacrosse tournament and came down with a bad sinus infection. I was greeted by the receptionist and efficiently checked in. I was in and out of an exam room and on my way to the Rite Aid across the street in 45 minutes, only missing one of my daughter's games. I was there the other night driving someone that wasn't feeling well. When we walked in one of the staff members were on their cell phone and didn't even look up or make eye contact with either one of us. The other staff member spoke to us with an annoyed voice. Probably because they were closing in 45 mins and didn't want us to be there. That's exactly how she treated us. The girl went to the desk and they asked for a photo ID and insurance card. She gave them the insurance card and rudely the lady said I need your ID. The girl said I'm sorry I didn't know I needed that do you really need it. She says well if you don't have it then we can't see you. The other girl says well just ask her mom for her I'd. Well, I wasn't her mother and I thought that was very ignorant. I leave and run to get the ID and while I was gone for about 10 minutes the had the girl fill out papers and checked her insurance: well come to find out she has a very high deductible plan and need to pay the co insurance up front which was almost $200 and she expected just to pay a $20 copay. Needless to say the girl who is sick is very upset. She calls her mom to explain the situation and see if there is some place else she could go that would be less money. The rude lady then less - well did you decide what your going to do because you can't just sit here. Wow!! How rude? I was less then pleased with our experience there. Not to mention while the girl was in the bathroom before we left to go to main line health center in Exton mall. They actually started cleaning up and vacuum while I sat there. Sorry you all had to do your job!! Which I thought was to make people feel better and want to come back there!! You did know of that and I told many people about our poor experience there. Maybe you should do a job you enjoy and if you can't find one at least pretend!!!! Will never go there again or recommend it to any one in the area. read more

Great service from Jamie and Maggie. We had rushed to the AFC in west chester who assured us if we got there before closing the doctor would see my daughter who had gotten burned. We got to that location 4 minutes before closing and they refused service. I called this location, they assured me they would stay open and not only did they do that, but they are so kind and accommodating. Highly recommend them. I had to go four times within a two week period for a two step TB test. Very polite staff, and if you don't go on the weekend, not much of a wait. I also needed a physical, and the MD was great. I lost my records! for my TB test, and with one phone call was able to get them for my new employer. I wish my new employer would have sent me back here for my physical, for I went to another clinic that took 2 1/2 hours. Try not to go on Sunday! Otherwise, this place is great. I suggest parking on the side, for the parking lot is hectic. read more

My first visit to this location was over the winter when I went in for a flu test, and they did a good job at that time. However, after my visit a couple of days ago, I don't believe I would go back to this location. The check-in was pleasant and the nurse reviewed my case quickly. Unfortunately my experience with the doctor was disappointing. From the moment she came into the room, she appeared to be in a serious hurry. I explained my fall down steps into gravel. I explained there had been gravel under my toenail. She said my toe was infected and wrote me a script, but did not even bother to closely examine my toe to even address if there was debris in my wound/nail area. Nothing was done to care for the wound. I had to stop the doctor as she headed out the door to even get any clarification for wound care, as none was offered. Should I apply heat or ice? Should I soak it? How should I bandage? Should I apply any products to it? These are basics of care that should have been offered. I paid $155 for about 5 minutes with a doctor, and now I have to go visit another doctor as I believe something is wedged under my nail and she didn't bother to check for that. I'll add that no one was in the waiting room when I arrived and no one in the waiting room when I left, more than 40 minutes before their closing time of 8:00. So, I'm not sure what her hurry was. read more

I went over the weekend and got great treatment. The front desk ladies were nice and I was in and out within 30 minutes. I have to comment on insurance after reading Kelly's review . I work in the industry so I know about this. If a provider accepts your ins. they are only allowed to charge you a certain amt. This is itemized for you on the EOB you recv from your ins co. and will say 'patients responsibility'. If you recvd a bill from this provider it's b/c you legitimately owe money- maybe you have a deductible you haven't met yet. You don't like paying $130 to see a doctor and get a prescription when you're sick - just wait and see what happens to your out of pocket with the new health care plan! read more
