Aspen Dental of Gloucester, Va is a bait and switch scammer…read more I was looking for a dentistry office which accepted my insurance for a routine dental cleaning. I made an appointment and indicated that was the reason for the visit.  When I arrived, I filled out there forms and indicated that I wanted a routine cleaning. The staff then brought me in and began to pressure me to spend more than $48,000.00 on a group of dental prosthetic procedures. When I told them that I was just their for a routine cleaning, then they told me that they only do peridontic level cleaning that would cost me more than $1000.00 out of pocket. They tried to get me to replace a dental insert which I have had for more than 10 years and was not causing any problems. Aspen Dental is a scam.  I did not get a cleaning and was shown the door. Now they want me to pay $103.00 for the scam.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my experience at Aspen Dental in Gloucester, VA…read more I live in Newport News and had a lengthy commute due to construction delays. I had a scheduled appointment for Monday, December 22nd at 10:00 a.m. I contacted the office in advance to inform them that I would be approximately nine minutes late. I arrived at 10:09 a.m.; however, I was not seen until well after 10:30 a.m. After X-rays were taken, I was placed in an exam room, where I experienced a significant wait. A hygienist eventually arrived and explained that she would be assessing my gums, which took approximately 20 minutes. After she left, I waited again for the dentist to arrive. When the dentist entered, she reviewed my file and focused primarily on a conversation she had overheard regarding Invisalign rather than addressing the reason for my visit. I had chipped my lower left tooth and was seeking to have it filled. While I understood there was a possibility the repair might not be completed that day, I felt limited attention was given to my primary concern. I originally selected this location based on a previous positive interaction with the office manager, Arielle; however, she was not present in the office on December 22nd. After spending nearly three hours at the office, I received neither a cleaning nor a filling. The receptionist explained that this was my initial visit, that the dentist had been out the previous week, and that the office was attempting to accommodate patients who had not been seen during that time. I was informed that the dentist was running behind and did not have time to complete the filling. This explanation was frustrating, as I arrived on my scheduled appointment date and time. I was then asked to return on Wednesday, December 24th (Christmas Eve). I was told that I did not receive a cleaning because the hygienist's schedule was full, despite the fact that she had spent approximately 20 minutes assessing my gums. When I asked when a cleaning could be scheduled, an opening was identified for 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. filling. On December 24th, I arrived at 8:51 a.m. but was not called back until 9:20 a.m. I waited an additional 30 minutes before the hygienist began my cleaning, which concluded around 9:43 a.m. I was then directed back to the waiting area to await my 10:00 a.m. appointment. I was not called back again until approximately 10:18 a.m., at which time numbing gel was applied. The dentist, Dr. Vedros, whom I later learned is the owner, then administered the injection. The injection was delivered in a manner that was uncomfortable, as she stood off to the side during administration. I experienced significant pain and visibly reacted; however, there was no acknowledgment or reassurance provided before she exited the room. I then waited an additional 30 to 40 minutes. When I inquired about the delay, I was informed that another patient had arrived with an emergency and that I would be seen next. At that point, it was approximately 10:50 a.m. When the filling was completed, I was unable to see a noticeable improvement. The tooth appeared unchanged, as only the back portion had been filled and the overall level remained the same. When I expressed my concern, the dentist stated that the tooth had been repaired and appeared different, and that no further adjustments would be made due to the bite markers. The interaction felt dismissive, particularly given the events of both visits. I left the office feeling rushed, unheard, and dissatisfied with the overall care provided. I will not be returning to this location. The experience required a significant investment of time without a satisfactory outcome. The only positive interactions were with a dental assistant with dark hair whose name I did not obtain, and with Arielle during a separate visit. Both were courteous and professional. Unfortunately, my interactions with the blonde staff member and Dr. Vedros were unprofessional and unwelcoming.

After my first two visits with this practice I left a rave, wonderful review. I was ecstatic to…read morehave found a local provider less than 10 minutes from my home. The dentist and staff were amazing and friendly.....and after that it was downhill. Only one dentist practices there and they never stay over a year - if that. My experience was very strange. Hayes seems to be a pit stop for dentist coming from other countries, who don't care about building a patient/provider relationship because they don't plan on staying. I never saw the same dentist except during my very first two visits. After that they kept cancelling my appointments. They Hygentist cancelled one of them a couple of days before my appointment, the next was the new Dentist - also a couple of days before my appointment because "she was new and having a staff meeting" and the third time, I had literally walked out my door to leave for my appointment, (I live 7 minutes away), and they called to cancel! No explanation. I had enough and blew up and said I would be having my files sent to a new provider. Upon hearing that, the staff member who called to tell me asked me to hold on. That let me know she was likely going to tell the dentist "I quit" to see if he would still see me probably because the dentist just didn't want to stay for my appointment because it was late in the day. They had previously called me other times to ask if I wanted to change my appointments earlier in the day but my schedule won't allow it. If I had been the one to cancel at the last minute, I would have undoubtedly been charged a last minute cancellation fee. That appointment was a follow up from a cleaning a few days earlier to get a cavity filled. I can't even say which tooth, because the dentist I saw that day had the personality of an amoeba and didn't even tell me which tooth. He literally only said, Hello, his name and you have a cavity, then he left. It seems to be a turnover of Hygentist as well. They told me they like their patients to stick with one Hygentist but I saw three different hygienist in a little over one year - and one of them was there filling in as a favor from another practice because they didn't have one. I had high hopes when I started with this practice but it didn't last. They made it obvious they have no respect for their patient's time and they won't stick around long enough to care about building a provider relationship with you.

I posted my review originally on Google, but I recognize people like to cross check multiple…read morereviews and sites, so I wanted to make sure my review was seen here as well for those who use Yelp. Fair warning this review is long, but thorough. I don't think I could heap any higher praise on the staff that I've worked with in the last two days at the Foleck. I called in with a medical emergency situation. Basically, my situation was that I needed to get my teeth fixed as quickly as possible, so I could medically clear, and then start a Covid shelter in place on Sunday so I could go back to the ship. Not a lot of time. I had developed tooth pain while I was working on a ship offshore and Chesapeake Bay. It was to the point where Ibuprofen wasn't working, preventing me from sleeping and, I had to get off the ship. Once I got to shore and to my vehicle, I called them and they brought me right in. This first appointment was with the Hygienist Katelyn and Dr. Hamlin. Katelyn was really polite and understanding of the situation. Very easy to work with and patient. I chose Hamlin because I had seen a video she had done, talking about when you come to Foleck, it's a judgement free zone. I haven't been the best with my teeth, so I found that very comforting. When Dr. Hamlin came in, she was very nice and I could tell she knew her craft. I felt at ease. During the exam they could see that I was going to need a Root Canal. So I left and went to the Endodontist, and out of sheer luck, and the Dr. Becker understanding the emergency of the situation, decided to do my root canal that day, instead the following day. This is on a Tuesday. Come Wednesday morning, I called Foleck and Becky was able to move some things around to get me in for a temporary crown and fillings, again super short notice, but Becky moved the heavens to get me in. So I started with my appointment, this time with Hygienist Nicole. Nicole was also really nice and a joy to converse with. I certainly felt at ease with her. She got me prepped for the crown surgery. Very important note, they use a extra strength topical that numbs you up pretty good. When Hamlin did the numbing shots, I barely felt any sharp pains. So lets roll in to that, Hamlin starts doing the numbing shots and my nerves get the best of me, I reached out my left to hand, looking for a hand to hold. Nicole immediately recognized the gesture and allowed to hold her hand. Mind you this is the second time in today days that I'm the shit poked out of my cheeks. I don't think Nicole realizes how much I needed that and how much it calmed me down. I'm super grateful to her for it. The crown procedure went smooth for the most part, there a couple times Hamlin to do some more numbing, I guess I'm one of the lucky few that am resistant to numbing. You really get to see how skilled Dr. Hamlin is with her craft. She was super patient, anytime I needed to ask a question, she would pull the rubber piece holding my mouth open so I could ask it clearly. Speaking of which, Nicole was really good at understanding what I was trying to say with stuff in my mouth. So in closing, I have a hard time trusting a dentist, probably the trauma of bad visits as a kid. But with Katelyn, Nicole, and Dr. Hamlin, I felt safe and in capable hands. The Foleck Center, Becky, and Dr. Hamlin came through for me in my moment of need. They got me taken care on extremely short notice and time. Plus I'm from out of state and a new patient. I was so thankful I asked Hamlin if I could give her and Nicole a hug! So I most definitely recommend this place, and will definitely will see Hamlin again!!!
